I had the same problem with my batteries getting too cold in my barn last year. I had them in a chest freezer and was hoping they would stay warm enough but the inevitably dropped below freezing. I ended up buying a thermostatically controlled outlet and I put a 40W incandescent bulb in the freezer. When the temp dropped, the light would come on, warming up the freezer, then it would turn off. Saved a ton of power and didn't have to worry about the batteries getting too cold anymore.

I enjoyed watching Jacob demonstrating his "inner Norm Abrams" while building the doors for the battery cabinet. Now, on the summer agenda might be an extension to the shed. What is the name of the shed?? Of course, Grandma Jeannie became nervous when the little man's finger was close to the trigger of the nail gun. Good that he waited until dad said, "go".

I’m always amazed at the liberties people today take in judging and questioning others decisions they make in their lives…. Though I really shouldn’t be because you’d think that after 10 years on social medias Nothing would surprise me anymore. Just be you, those of us who are content to observe will always be here and those who are dissatisfied that you aren’t doing things their way will wonder off eventually…..

Looks good man! That's how boys be come men. Dad teach them things. So cute !! That was me telling you about the seed heat matts. I use them in my solar setup. Like I just set them and forget them. Feel there a safer solution than a heat lamp. Even do this when setting up my clients solar also. Thanks for sharing with us ! Your setup looks so good. God Bless..

best way to measure the temp in your battery box is on the bottom next to the battery as Heat rises and the top near you lamp will away be hotter than next to the bottom where your battery shell and battery are. I agree mats are best as they are temp controlled and not a fire hazard as heat lamps on wood.

  • @ShadowMoonFarms

"Someday" you'll have a big workshop building, with a woodworking area, a welding station, every tool under the sun, and room to pull vehicles and machinery in to work on. And a team of boys who will be craftsmen by the time they're teenagers. Well, that's my prediction 😁.
The doors came out beautifully. Never apologize for overdoing on quality workmanship. It holds up and lasts forever. Not so with quickly thrown together projects. These days things are made so cheap, meant to be used and thrown away. My worst pet peeve is to have to go back and redo a thing that wasn't done right to begin with. It's a waste of time, energy and resources. And when you look at the things you've designed and built so nicely you'll always have a sense of satisfaction and pride in knowing it was done to the highest standard. Plus you'll teach your boys not to take short cuts, to care about quality and to create things that endure . It will help your channel grow all the more over time as well because lots of us out here really enjoy watching that level of work done. So please do keep up the good work!!
Funny, you're gotten more snow this winter than we've had here in Illinois. But it's not over yet. We often get the biggest snows in Feb and even into March.
Take care guys and enjoy all those new improvements!! 🥰!!

I'm looking to use one of the relay connections from one of the victron gear (shunt, cerbo, or charge controller to activate a dc relay to cycle a dc heating mat. Not sure how it is all going to work yet but that way it would be viewable and accessible in the venus os based on temperature rules. Good luck that bulb could end up being a bit dangerous for fire etc if sawdust etc is around it.

Howbout plugging that lamp into a basic 'ol christmas light timer that you can set to come on and off every couple of hour(s)? That way you can also have it turn off for a 8hr daytime period, and then at night it can cycle on/off every hour or w/e and conserve on battery charge.

Lithium iron phosphate batteries are temperature sensitive. They will shut down if they get too cold to protect themselves. Thanks for commenting. 🙂

Years ago, I was cutting baseboard with a miter chopsaw and took off the very tip of my thumb. Luckily, it was all meat, no bone, so it just left scarred, fingerprint-free skin once it healed. I got off light.
