    A torn meniscus rarely heals on its own, especially if the tear is in the thinner part that doesn't get blood flow. Without surgery to trim the frayed parts off, it will get worse. So, saying a torn meniscus can heal but still have a tear doesn't mean it's healed because it stopped being painful. And, a knee brace definitely helps when you have a torn meniscus! What it does is help to keep your knee from twisting, causing more pain and just keeps the joint more stable.

    hey there... I hope you read this. I am not sure if I have meniscus tear because in my town we don't have MRI in any hospital here. I went to the hospital and they only did CT scan, the doctor said the result is all okay. I only have strained muscle. but I cannot bend my knee. Is it possible that I have meniscus tear from a fall? (I fell from stairs, but it wasn't very high), do you think the diagnose was correct? can you tell someone is having meniscus tear just by ct scan?

    I did the first 2 exercises for meniscus tear that you share on video, it reduced the pain in my knee and stopped the pain in the back of my thigh and down the calf, lateral side. But, I noticed this AM that my knee did click if I swung my leg out too far so I cut back on extension. I was doing it every hour and I have cut back to every other hour. I'm on about 4 weeks out, still uncomfortable when I walk, and yes, I have dogs so I do have to maneuver a few stairs to get them to the yard...true walking does not happen at this time, but I cannot avoid it totally. I went to a PT person one time...what I had gained I lost with the resistance exercise he had me doing (quads)...Have bought your PT video on meniscus and have the free consultation call set up for Monday. Can't wait.

    I tore my meniscus while playing football. I have been doing physiotherapy for about 6-7 months. The swelling and all got better and I was able to get more active but I still have the knee popping which is kind of irritating. Any suggestions? Doctors said that there is a slight tear in the white zone which doesn’t heal on its own and would need surgery. However, I didn’t go for it because I believed that I could fix it with Physiotherapy. This is a recent discovery: I have been going to the gym and doing the strengthening for my knee. It was working well until today morning when I did some leg work out, my meniscus felt aggravated. I’m just applying ice packs now. I really want to level up my progress so I can feel that strength in the knee. Can you please help me or give me some advice on what to do? Your help would be highly appreciated.

    Hello David! I have a lateral bucket handle tear where over half of the meniscus is flipped into the center of my knee. I am slowly healing, but after two months walking is still painful and my knee is a bit unstable. Do you think if I continue to do my physio and prolong the surgery the meniscus will flip back on its own? Or are there any techniques to flip it back non-surgically? I've already have 3 surgeries on the same knee so any advice is much appreciated.

    You never mentioned loose bodies. After I injured my knee X-ray showed no fracture or significant arthritis. MRI showed complex medial radial meniscus tear, Baker's cyst, bone bruise tissue edema and loose bodies. 4 mos in and I am still in acute pain. I've started PT and have had a cortisone shot, no relief in symptoms. I have had a 3 hrs. episode of constant stabbing pain in my knee and I am having locking of my knee. I know even sm loose bodies can cause ligament damage & mechanical problems, so for that alone, a scope may be necessary. My ortho is trying conservative measures first before deciding about surgery. i would opt for surgery if he gives the go-ahead. A nightmare injury!

      Hey Estelle 👋! we're terribly sorry to hear about your meniscus tear experience, we know how excruciating the pain that you're dealing with can be and the toll it can take on your overall health. As far as your concern regarding loose bodies it can be a number of things and just as you stated it could potentially cause more damage.
      We strongly believe that you should try to do your best at avoiding unnecessary surgery, injections, or having to rely on pain medications. Surgery isn'y always guaranteed to fix the underlying issue. We'd like to leave you with some additional resources that could help improve your chances of avoiding the above and possibly help you over the long term:

    I had surgery on my meniscus on my right knee. 6 + months later, having swelling and tightness in my left knee. Orthopedic doctor said it’s a bakers cyst. Going to PT for the first time next week. I am curious if they will say muscle imbalance is causing swelling and if they say to work on my glutes. I have been doing your recommendations on exercises. I probably should not have had surgery but it is done now so I am moving forward,

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear that you're still having tightness in your left knee Kathy :-(
      You're likely over doing it OR your quads are so dominant that they're over-pressuring your meniscus and keeping it swollen. This will feed into getting a Baker's Cyst for sure because of the associated swelling. You've absolutely got to start working on your glutes. @epmanualphysicaltherapy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Blue Asia! Great question so losing weight could potentially help with improving your chances of healing a meniscus tear or injury. However, generally speaking, we don't suggest making weight loss the main priority as it is more likely that focusing on treatment strategies that help with swelling reduction, pain maintenance, and glute strengthening tends to contribute more to healing in comparison to weight loss.
