- THE WHO perform BABA O'RILEY to close out their show in Cincinnati, Ohio as a tribute to the victims of the 1979 tragedy at their concert at TQL Stadium on 5/15/22. Footage shot in high definition in AVCHD mode using a Panasonic Lumix DC-ZS200 using "iA” mode.
Roger has taken such good care of that voice. Still sounds unreal!

Im so glad to have been from My Generation. Born in Dec 1950. We had the best music, and some of the gratest people. Nothing to doo with me, but I was just glad to be in that generation. The Who sounded wonderful and their young musicians and singers were outstanding. Well done Rogger. Always liked you.

Yes, and that is a VERY hard song to sing. I always respected Daltry more than Robert Plant who constantly sings in lower octaves from the record. Daltry is GREAT and from what I hear, a nice, humble guy.
I'm continually amazed by how good Daltry sounds after all of these years. It's really pretty incredible.

Oh, mercy. I'm in tears here, this was So Beautiful. The crowd throwing back the love. Her violin playing was so playful and stunning and when she neared Pete it brought a smile.

I was lucky enough to finally see them perform live last year in Anaheim. They can still kick ass singing and playing guitar and the violinist is gorgeous and is so talented. Great experience!

I first saw The Who around 1965. They used to gig at the 'Goldhawk Social club' - Goldhawk rd, Shepherd's Bush west London. The old guys can still hack it. :-)))
Holy cow. You saw them at the Goldhawk?? That place has legendary status among hardcore Who fans. Did you know 'Irish' Jack Lyons by any chance? He's a longtime friend of Pete's. There's a documentary where Jack goes back to the Goldhawk. It's still there.

For those of you who never saw it, find the 2001 NYC benefit after 9/11 and watch the rendition of this song. Its still the best live performance of it I've ever seen. Just incredible energy.

Reading thru these comments and watching this clip I am overwhelmed with emotions. What a great clip. I was there at Riverfront Coliseum that December 3, 1979. Twenty years old and celebrating my 21st birthday with friends. Arriving late, The Who were playing Baba O'Riley when my date and I came upon the most surreal images of my life. The crush had already occurred and the plaza outside the arena was strewn with shoes, hats, gloves, purses, coats, and myriad bric-a-brac. The glass doors were completely shattered. EMS were still around. And from inside came the refrain, "Teenage wasteland, it's only teenage wasteland". Wow! I am still affected by that event. God bless the lives lost and the families of those who died there. It still shakes me to my core. Long live The Who! And long live Rock!

For all of us who have seen this band, we know how lucky we’ve been. To see and hear this song live is something beyond imagination.
We saw it in DC and every time we have seen them we have been so grateful. Forces of nature they are!
The coolest part was the stadium full of people singing along with Pete during the "Don't cry" part. Roger leaves something to be desired vocally.
Giants stadium 1986 or 87 seen them all 3 days to date loudest and best Concert i have seen to date i am 53 now what memories, tickets were 300$ back then on the ground center still got my Acid Queen shirt and tribute to Keith Moon shirt 81.
Is it ok if I am overwhelmed with melancholy? I mean, I bought their 45's as a kid, I saw them live in the 70's, and we've grown old together in a way . . .

I was at the concert and was in the crush of people. People fell all around me and I saved myself by lifting my feet off the ground and tightly swayed. A friend of mine’s friend, Walt was crushed and trampled to death. The concert last about an hour and we learned of people dying when we were driving home.
I’m glad that The Who came back and acknowledged that tragic night.
God blesses! Thanks, Patrick. I was fortunate to arrive at the show late or my girlfriend and I would have been in the "crush". When another member of our party showed up even later and said, "I just saw a dead person," we just laughed it off. We weren't laughing after the show when we had to pull off I-75 to call our parents and let them know we were okay.
That's amazing that you were part of that history. Something you'll never forget i'm sure.

Absolutely correct. I've seen The Who 5 times ... 4 times with Keith Moon and 1 time with Kenney Jones. That group grew up with me and me with them. I get tears as well ... especially when I hear "Pinball Wizard." WE did get to see the great bands, didn't we?

EXCELLENT show! Very proud to have been there last night. The way they memorialized the 11 who were killed in 1979 throughout the show was awesome. I was 19 in 1979 and remember the event like it was yesterday. Katie Jacoby on the violin during Baba O'Riley was a highlight for me!

I’ve been fortunate to see The Who perform Baba O’Riley 3 times, the first in St Louis in 1973 when they were touring for Quadrephenia, the second in Des Moines, touring for Who by Numbers, then some time in the early 80s in Cedar Falls Iowa at the University of Northern Iowa. The last was the only show without Keith Moon. I have to say, Zak Starkey is fantastic. Watching this was like seeing them the first time in 1973. They may not have the energy to move with the music as they did in 1973, but the girl playing the violin part sure does! Wow, first time I’ve ever seen it performed with a violin, and so perfect! This is how I had imagined it performed forever.
Dammmm,.. July 5, 1980 @ the Houston Summit. 42 years ago. I saw them when I was teen,.. Blew my mind,. Ears rang for a week, They are still mind-blowing.

Wow parents used to say the same about the lates 60’s about Sinatra and how decadent the times were. Guess it’s just aging that makes ppl think that way.
There will likely never be bands like them that become popular. But there are many great bands out there that you will never hear of because they'll never be played on the radio or brought to the mainstream. The underground Music scene is still strong and thriving. You gotta go and look for it.

I saw them at the Providence Civic Center a short time after the Cincinnati tragedy. I was at the front of the line before they opened the doors. An usher motioned to me to come in the side door which he had just opened. This took the pressure off the front doors. The concert was awesome! I remember Pete played a guitar with a large number 2 painted on it. After the concert a black limo was slowly exiting the Civic Center. It paused in front of me to allow the crowd to pass. In the back seat I saw Pete Townsend almost passed out from exhaustion. He gave everything he had at this concert. Great memories of a lifetime!
I can picture the scene. Thanks for sharing. I know that during that period of '78 and '79 he numbered his guitars because they were each tuned differently by his guitar tech, and he would grab the correspondingly tuned guitar for the appropriate song.

OMG...what an epic song this was back in the day, and so amazingly played and sang today. This takes me back in time to when I was a young teenager and a group of us would play WHO and YES songs on a getto blaster outdoors. Fond memories indeed.
Roger Daltrey is PURE LEGEND and the beautiful girl playing violin is amazing too.
This brought me to tears remembering the very night of the original Ohio tragedy. Godspeed, Peter, Roger and all the fans.

Wonderful. I've never seen Pete be so understandably commutative, personable and gracious. I've seen them in concert when Keith was alive and later when Kenny was on drums. A life long fan. @@davidbrown5152 I read an interview with Pete years ago. He always put Roger down and belittled him. One day Pete realized that there were Only 2 of "them" left!?! Pete finally came to terms with Roger and the respect showed. Roger did a PBS show back in 1994 I think it was. "Roger Daltry and the music of the WHO". Along with the Julliard orchestra. It was excellent. Roger also, during his concert, brought John Entwistle and ultimately Pete on stage to play with the orchestra and him. I have lost the VCR tape of this show, but if you ever get a chance to find it and watch it, i think you'll really enjoy it.

I have seen them 5 times, with three different drummers over the years, and they were still one of the top live acts until after John Entwistle's death
@@HamiltonRb True, i think Pete and roger should have hung it up after John's death. But without picking Moon up in the low 60s i don't think they would have the spark they needed when performing live. I Listened to THE ROCK FROM Quadrophenia Album and a few other of my favorites like"Bargain' from Who's Next, Moon is incredible in that era.
@@jdefeo9841 Moon was a great drummer, and certainly had a intense chaotic way of delivering the beat. He was the drummer when I first time I saw them in Montreal, and although opinions vary and there is no right or wrong answer, he is in the top 4 drummers I have ever seen live, along with Bonham, Peart & Baker.

I was at this show with some really dear friends of mine. The footage of the fallen, the recognition to their families ect. And just a fanominal concert. I've seen a bunch and this was at the very top!!
I'm really happy to hear Roger can still belt it out. The years weigh heavier on singers than any other member of the band.

I was lucky enough to see The Who perform this with Nigel Kennedy at The Royal Albert Hall in 2000. When someone comes on and does Baba with a fiddle/violin its deeply moving, and this player hits the part incredibly, and her enjoyment is so amazing. a song that's 50 years old. And think in 1971, 50 years ago was 1921. A good year.
I will never forget it. Best night of my life.

I can't wait to see these guys. I have tickets to their Toronto show this coming October. I regret not being able to see Entwistle; I could have seen him during the Who's Quadrophenia tour in '96, but I chose not to go, because I had a night course at university that night. But koodoos to that kid at the end for rockin' it out on the violin with Townshend. She'll have something to tell her kids about.
I have tickets as well. Oct 2. It looks like a really “good feel” show. They look that they are enjoying themselves and want to be there for the audience. Hope our show is a good one!

I was a junior at Reading HS in 79. The guy that sat next to me in chemistry class was a senior and had gone to the show. Back in the day, it was common that the crowd would press together towards the entrance, and you could lift your feet and be carried along. I remember doing that for a Queen concert and being carried for 20-30 feet.
Anyway, my buddy shows up for school the next day after the Who concert and tells me how the crowd actually pushed him through one of the closed doors. He'd gotten there early and was about 50 feet from the entrance. Once the crowd heard the sound check, people from the back started pushing forward. The people up front had no where to go because the doors were closed. The surge of people popped the doors and my classmate got pushed through a door. Scary as hell, and a day none of use will forget.
I've always loved the Who, they're one of my faves, but that day will always be with me.
I'll never forget that on the 11 o'clock news.
My brother inlaw's brother was there back in 79 thank God he got out in time.
