I imagine a DJI version of this would be quite a bit more expensive! But it would be rad to be able to toss a mini in the sky purely under a VIO style system and not have to wait for GPS to lock on!
This is actually insane tech, super impressed, as soon as they drop a 4k version I'm getting one Will come in very handy for vlogging long hikes like the west highland way, I took my mavic 3 last time but it's so heavy and cumbersome when doing 30km+ a day
Bought mine about a week ago…absolutely love it. Need to be careful around water and sharp drop offs but all things considered it’s a real win. So many ways to use a Flying Camera! Do a follow up vid highlighting the manual mode. 👍
Oh I lied, I really appreciate you pointing out that the drone can crash. Every other review sends to claim that the drone doesn't crash at all. What I'd also like to see is a test to see what happens when you pass by other people in follow mode. Does the drone lock onto you? How about indoors? Does it still work in lower light scenarios? Can it follow up and down hills? Can you control the drone with your phone, like a remote? Hmm... again, interesting but there are too many unanswered questions.
It looks honestly amazing. In my eyes it's perfect for anyone alone who wants some simple but effective drone shots without worrying about the drone. Like, if you're alone but also want some footage of yourself, while doing something else and being unable to take care of the drone, it should be perfect. Like some kind of mini-assistant. 11 minutes of flying time sounds quite low, but how long does it take to charge the battery? if you can just quickcharge them on the go, i think it wont be that big of a deal.. I just checked the price, sadly it's a bit expensive (400$/550€) considering you can get "fully functional" drones for a bit cheaper. I would have hoped it's a cheap entry drone for anyone who wants some low-key drone shots for minimal effort.. I'm not sure how much alternatives for this use cost, but since the drone is limited to a few simple maneuvers, a smaller price would definitely be appreciated
Best product EVER! We got it a few months ago and it has created an amazing indispensable opening dronie shot for each of our Weekly Beer Vlogs. We have 3 DJI drones we never use. This HoverAir is used EVERY WEEK on every Beer Vlog. Now all we want for late Xmas present to make 2024 Beer Vlogs perfect is Insta360 to copy DJI with wireless audio and come out with Insta360 One X4 with a 32bit float receiver-less wireless solution just like the AMAZING DJI MIC 2 paired to Pocket 3. Btw, thanks, as usual , for the ALWAYS fantastic videos. - Eric ZORK Alan & Sweetie [ Professional Poets & Bed 🛏️ & Beer🍺 Vloggers ]
These are super cool. Great functionality for the weight. ONLY things stopping me from buying it: Video quality (they should let us mount an action camera, maybe have a cheaper camera for navigation/follow modes). And the price could then be lowered!
@@Mr.football6621 Thanks. I think this isn't the best direction. They should focus on a cheap camera for navigation while being able to carry an action cam. No problems with matching footage and lighter weight. Oh and much cheaper price. I don't need their camera, just a flying-tripod basically.
I’ve had the Snapchat and Pixy for like two years now and it’s been my favorite camera. It’s nice to see someone continuing this idea because Snapchat discontinued it.
Nice real-world review. I have several DJI drones and added one of these Hover Air X1's last week. I think it's a great little drone for its intended purpose and just took it out on a motorcycle trip this weekend. Very convenient and easy to get in the air and record. One other con to what you listed is the price point -- it's a bit pricey and that kept me from buying one early on, only biting the bullet when seeing their Black Friday sale.
Wow ... Incredible... The tech will just keep getting better... When it cancelled it's own noise... I think I said wow out loud... Funny that you called the drone a she...lol... Thanks for the video...
That may be the most impressive part of this thing! I loved the quick shots, but the noise cancelling was pretty mind blowing. That would be challenging to do in post and it's just doing it straight in camera🤯
I just purchased this drone, and I like it! But there are pros and cons. On the positive side, it does most of what it says it does; on the negative side, there is only a 10 or 12-minute battery life, even though it comes with two batteries, and it takes up to 4 hours to charge 1 battery. I see the advertising showing people getting followed on their bikes; I guess the bike ride is less than 10 minutes long. There is minimal instruction on how to use it; also, when sharing the video or picture, it's not as clear as the original. I had to research TH-cam to find out how to work things; with that being said, I give it a 7.5 out of 10 rating.
I'm very interested in you testing out the limits of the personnal recognition AI feature. I mean, I understand that the drone locks on to you and follows you. But what would happen if someone else comes next to you, for example. Will the drone start following that other person instead of you ?
I didn't even wait for your video to end before ordering it and extra batteries. After putting 2 drones in the ocean, I live in Key West and I suck at controlling a drone, this is perfect. Hope you're getting a bonus for this review. I have a feeling the sales will skyrocket after your review.
Thx David. I think you should send that over to PhillyDroneLife lol let's see if he can brake it.. But first I'll put it threw its paces.. of course... Cough.. Cough... Lol...Then we'll destroy it..🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 lol. Great video and congrats on you're TH-cam success. I hope to be where you're at in few ... 🙏🙏🙏🙏⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mikey
Question: Can it serve as a stills camera? I would love to be able to have something like that, which could simply be put up quickly and take a selfie without the need for a selfie stick, tripod, or a remote control. My DJI mini is too large for me to want to carry it around for that purpose. I also have a DJI Tello. Which is more or less perfect for what I want out of it. But it's resolution is terrible.
Thanks for the review David. Appears to be a lot of jitter in the drone video. Did your edited framerate match the drone framerate? The drone seems it like was shooting in 15fps rather than 30fps, almost security camera footage. I didn't expect butter silky smooth footage, but what I saw in your samples looked really bad as far as jitter goes. Trying to understand if it's the drone or the editing (love your videos, just trying to understand this artifact). Can you share raw footage from the drone?
I think for the price if the camera is 4k then it ok but for the 2.7K camera seem too expensive. Besides the main objective buying this kind of drone is for the video. You can get DJI Mini 3 for the price which have better 4K camera and many other features...
This is interesting but I'm too big of an "image snob" to live with this footage. Heck, I can't live with DJI Mini 4 Pro footage because I have the Mavic 3. Maybe they'll come out with a future model with a 3 axis gimbal and a better sensor.
I haven't bought one yet but I've read that it's not recommended to fly it over water or near large drop-offs (like cliff edges) because it uses the 'texture' of the ground surface to help position itself.
It almost seems as if more of these have been sent out to "influencers" than have been sold. I have yet to see a review from someone that didn't get it for free... although, I'm sure there may be some.
terribly laggy and grainy and too much shadow contrast. When you use your normal camera it's massively better quality and you cut it before it smashed into that van and most of all very greedy on the price! It should be about $100 not $400
David - get your hands out of my wallet. You are disturbing the moths. I would love to get one of these but my wife would not be pleased. Why no Christmas present, would be her question. I notice one thing in common in the reviews for this device, namely the delight it brings even to hardened influencers. That says a lot!
Dislike for not saying the price. Come on David. This is clearly a cool product. And video is good. But always a pain when you have to go elsewhere to find price.
We need DJI to make something like this. No remote, just get my epic mountain top orbit selfie and go back in my back pack! Great video dude!
I imagine a DJI version of this would be quite a bit more expensive! But it would be rad to be able to toss a mini in the sky purely under a VIO style system and not have to wait for GPS to lock on!
I know previous DJI drones you could control just with a phone. I can't tell if you can do that with any of the current models.
This is actually insane tech, super impressed, as soon as they drop a 4k version I'm getting one
Will come in very handy for vlogging long hikes like the west highland way, I took my mavic 3 last time but it's so heavy and cumbersome when doing 30km+ a day
I've had mine for a couple of weeks now and I love it. I do a lot of hiking and it performs well when walking by trees and large rocks.
Bought mine about a week ago…absolutely love it. Need to be careful around water and sharp drop offs but all things considered it’s a real win. So many ways to use a Flying Camera! Do a follow up vid highlighting the manual mode. 👍
It seems like a clever concept, but the $420 ($480 for the combo) price seems a little spicy for what it is.
Yeah. For $200 - may be. 400+ for such limited functionality with a mediocre camera? Nope.
I like that! It is a little spicy for what it is🌶️ 😂
Now it's sale 399 US combo
Currently on Amazon there's an $80 coupon that can be applied before checkout.
The price will drop in time.

I have one since before the summer 2023, and it's really fun and easy to use. I use it frequently on my Swedish running channel.
Oh, man, did it crash right into your van windshield? I would FREAK OUT LOL.
Hahaa! It did! Apparently clear glass is a little tricky for the VIO system, but zero damage from the crash. This thing is durable🙌
@@DavidManningvlog "This thing is durable" - are we talking about the drone or the Sprinter? 😉
@@OlleyP the sprinter trusting it. lol jk

The sheer joy that you have using this drone makes me want to buy one
What happened 8:20? Did it hot the van? Does it have collision detection? Great review, thanks for turning me on to this!
That shit definitely hit the van lmao

Nice little travel drone.
Would be a perfect travel drone!
That thing looks cool!! did the drone crash into you van windshield? haha
Finished the video , pretty cool how they put the cage around the blades to keep it durable! we gotta see the crash footage!!😂
Yep, but totally unscathed! I feel like all drones that are in tracking mode should have prop guards on them!

Always love your review!!! I have one too! Love it 😃 perfect for dummies like me 😂
I'd love to have it, but unfortunately it's only available in USA...
The only question I have is how much storage are you allowed to have on that thing? Does it have internal storage or external storage?
looks great!
Thanks for the review David. Appears to be a lot of jitter in the drone video. Did your edited framerate match the drone framerate? Do you need to have your phone at all times? Like, in follow mode, if you go running, can you leave your phone at home?
What frame rates does it support? Will it do 23.98 (prolly marked as 24fps)?
Other than the price $$ is the loud sound that is stopping me on purchasing this. You would think by the size, it would be quieter
For that price, a mini 2se can do more. Test this in gusty winds👍
How does it work when filming multiple subjects?
Will wait for the 4K version.
That is so so so cool… but does it take photos as well???. I’m not a drone person but I’d love to get some high sky shots (photos) of my home.
Does this still fall under the 107 license requirements? It would be great to make some instagram clips or add to youtube videos.
I understand it doesn't hover over water or big drops like cliffs?
brilliant
If you plug the DJI mic into your iPhone and then use the Hover Air x1 app to record sound, would it use the DJI mic as the source?
That’s a solid question! I’ll play with lav/mic options and see what works and what doesn’t
I was like cool a few stocking stuffers for the kids. Price $400 each........sorry kids no presents this year I spent it all in the stockings.
Does this support remote ID? If so, it would be perfect for flying over people legally.

125g with akkumulator?
Any idea how it does over or near water? Would it follow me if I’m on the boat moving at 10-15 mph?

how much and how do I buy one?
The user agreement is scary. How do you protect yourself when you agree to full access to your phone and the data it contains?
Had you bring it to other country & find issue in immigration?
Expandable memory??
How much
WHAT'S NEW HERE "NOTHING"
Oh one more comment, the fact that Skydio dropped out of the consumer space is proof that we don't "all want drones that only follow us around"...
Could I use a it manual
There’s a manual mode in the app so you can fly with your phone, but for me, the tracking is a better use case for it!
It maybe a dji Tello killer but not a mini 2 killer needs to be sub £300 ?
Can it orbit a car or something else that is not a person?
Great idea... Not a great price
I would rather they make it a 30 minute battery, even if the drone becomes 3 times heavier
I want to throw it and make it come back like a boomerang.
It almost seems as if more of these have been sent out to "influencers" than have been sold. I have yet to see a review from someone that didn't get it for free... although, I'm sure there may be some.
I want one with extra batteries
Purchased it 1 month later bored to tears with it sold it while I could get a good price
The BIG QUESTION? Did it hit your van?
These are brand new $350 on eBay fyi
One big flaw is you can't see what your filming 😂
You can in the app on your phone.
It sounds great but it's so expensive.
Same problem as a real drone, even if it’s under 250g, many places won’t let you use it.
For the price, I'd rather put a bit more and get a dji mini
Seen this reviewed in other channels… move on. Here I saved you a few minutes:-)
Nah, hangout for the 12 minutes, then watch it three more times just for fun!
terribly laggy and grainy and too much shadow contrast. When you use your normal camera it's massively better quality and you cut it before it smashed into that van and most of all very greedy on the price! It should be about $100 not $400
I'm sure it has some use, but obstacle avoidance isn't one of them. At the price this toy sells at, I'd surely invest in a real drone. YMMV.
