Mistborn and Assassin's Apprentice are my picks! Assassin's Apprentice is very emotional just FYI. There are devastating things that happen to Fitz on his journey. It is so good though. I've heard Live and Let Chai is really fun! Have fun on your cruise!!!
Thanks so much! I definitely don’t want to cry on vacation… but I do want to read that so much - maybe it’s actually better to read on vacation because it would be too depressing for normal life?! 😂
I agree with Danni they are amazing books but you will be in tears! Not the vibes you specified, read when you get home so you can sit in your pjs and ugly cry eating ice cream! (Out the tub with a spoon, not a nice treat on the cruise) 😂😢🍨
I say Midnight Library - nice short chapters, great pacing - it starts of with sadness but builds up with good vibes (well did for me) Octopus gives you joy take that Non-fic Not read Abby H, but hear good things and think other books are less emotional. Also the cover screams Summer cruise, you need it for gorgeous photos of you enjoying a break! 💜📚
3:02 - wrap your books in clothes and wedge clothes around the sides of suitcase as extra padding for those books - I also love a book sleeve for book protection - books I don't want messing up, do not leave the house 😉💜📚
I took a cruise last year and took three books and had to buy one in the airport coming home. I also had my Kindle which I didn't really use. My picks would be Just For the Summer (just finished and has heavier topics), Giver of Stars, The Bodyguard (read on my cruise), and Weyward. I have read all of these and loved them all! I feel a high fantasy is pretty heavy for a vacation but that's just me! Enjoy your time away. It is hard to be away from your kids but is also a great time of reconnecting with your spouse!🚢
Love that you had to buy a book coming home - I love browsing airport bookshops but never buy any because I haveso many with me already! Thanks so much for your recommendations! And yes my spouse and I are really excited to try to remember what we like about each other 😜
OK Fantasy - Hobb no - it is Amazing, but you will spend most of that book sobbing! Mistborn is much more intense then Shadow and Bone. So for the vibes you want Shadow and Bone is a fun time, decent world building and plot. In terms of my favourite 1) Assassin's Apprentice (hot chocolate blankets and tissues) 2) Mistborn 3) Shadow and Bone But your vibes take Shadow and Bone 💜📚
I bring whatever edition I own! Pb or Hb. Don’t take Moyes. I DNFd Weyward because it is full of abuse (& other things.) Caraval is a safe bet for not being too heavy, as is Mistborn. I would do Caraval for a cruise though. Think hunger games meets the night circus for that. It can be intense but not super sad. Assassins Apprentice is going to make you cry! Take Soul of an Octopus!🐙 Live and let chai would be a great one!
Bummer about Weyward! Was is graphic sexual content too? Might just have to unhaul that one! Thanks for the advice!!! I definitely don’t want to cry so we will save Robin Hobb for another day!
@@BandanaBookmom I don’t know for sure about sexual content later in the book, but it was off page and just spoken of (rape and more) in the part I read.
And I looked at Caraval on storygraph. There is child abuse (that is part of the reason the girls want to get away) but it has been 6?7? Years since I read it so I’m not sure how graphic it is.
Thanks so much! I think the octopus one is definitely coming! The more I think about it - the more I can picture reading and watching the sea and thinking about the octopuses below! 🐙
I always bring way more books than I can ever read, too 😂. It’s that irrational fear of running out of reading material! I’ve only read “the midnight library” from your choices and it was OK, but the beginning is a bit depressing as she talks about her desire to commit suicide. If you’re OK with that it’s pretty good! I’m also hoping to read those three fantasy series you talked about as well! I think those might be fun choices (Shadow and Bone or Mistborn). Sometimes I think it’s fun to start a series on vacation because then you’ll always have that memory associated with the vacation if you really end up loving the series. The only problem is, if you really like the first book and you didn’t bring the second book you’re stuck till you get home. 😉
Haha yes it’s a completely irrational fear! Such good advice about the series - I always remember where I read a good series but then the struggle is real if it ends on a cliff hanger. (Watch me running around ports looking for books like a crazy person)
@BandanaBookmom this was supposed to be an enjoyable watch and comment at the end, but I kept pausing to comment - such a great video concept. Looking forward to a cruise vlog perhaps as we get all your thoughts on each book? 😃💜📚
I recently read Weyward and really enjoyed it but it’s pretty heavy in subject matter!! So maybe not for this exact purpose, haha. But I loved The Bodyguard and The Midnight Library was a super quick, easy read!
🤣🤣🤣 yeah Mistborn is very intense - it is a world where the Dark Lord won and they start living under that rule with everyone oppressed. But it's brilliant with characters and one of the best magic systems - there are balls later on but I agree not for the cruise! 💜📚
Mistborn! Shadow and Bone sounds good too. Do not bring Robin Hobb! I haven’t read Assassin’s Apprentice yet, but the series is known for being incredibly tragic and depressing.
How many votes do we have? OK 5 great Here are mine - excited to know the results! 1) Soul of an Octopus 2) Just for the Summer 3) Caraval 4) Midnight Library 5) Shadow and Bone 6) Live and Let Chai ...I chose 6 😂
Ok three of these made the final five!!! I am trying to be very strict with myself on five. But I did hold both Shadow and Bone and Live and Let Chai in my hands for so long… and it’s possible that if I have space they might accidentally get packed too.
I say go with the octopus nonfiction book because it seems fitting to read on a cruise.
I was thinking that! I could look out at the water and think about the octopus hanging out down below!

You crack me up! I’ve not read any of those books, but I’m a series girl, so I vote you start some series! Have an amazing cruise. You deserve it!
Thanks Rachel!! 🚢📚💃

Great vid! Love it! My fave thing to do on vacay is read!!! ❤
Mine too!!!!
Fatal Fixer Upper is really good! You could also try a chapter of each of the books and see what 5 interests you the most.
Ooo good idea!!
Live and let Chai, giving me lots of fun relaxing zen vibes, even if it gets a bit murdery - I don't know if it does, you said Mystery 😂🔍
OK Fantasy - Hobb no - it is Amazing, but you will spend most of that book sobbing!

Thanks for sharing this.
You are so welcome - I hope you have the best day EVER. 🤖
I haven’t read any of your options, but it it were me, I’d take The Bodyguard and Live and Let Chai. 🎉 I hope you have a great time on your trip!!

00:16 TRUTH!!!! 😂

Thanks so much! I have loved all the Katherine Center books I read so that’s definitely a strong contender!!
@@BandanaBookmom you’re very welcome! I definitely want to read more of her books 😊
I say The Bodyguard and Soul of an Octopus. Midnight Library made me teary-eyed at some parts, so maybe stear clear of that one.
Very good to know! Thanks for the recommendations!
Mistborn on a vacation ? I don’t think so. Lol.
Caraval is light. It’s fun. It’s entertaining. I personally think it’s perfect.
Have a great time !!
Haha is Mistborn that intense??? Caraval sounds like it is a delightful read.
🤣🤣🤣 yeah Mistborn is very intense - it is a world where the Dark Lord won and they start living under that rule with everyone oppressed. But it's brilliant with characters and one of the best magic systems - there are balls later on but I agree not for the cruise! 💜📚

Ok I definitely don’t want that!!! Thank you!!
I am glad you are being warned about Hobb, it is my favourite series of all time, but not a light book for a cruise at all! 💜📚
