Breastmilk is dirty!?!? BTCH-IN-LAW IS TRIPPING! My son was allergic to all formula... even the hypoallergenic formulas because the synthetic vitamins it was comprised of were not being absorbed in my son's gut. He was starving slowly. The homecoming parent is 100% the a-hole. He could have ✨️used his words✨️ to communicate that he would like her to ask before making plans, and then she can ask next time. When she says there is only one freshman homecoming, and he says there are more to come, you can never count on that! Think of all the students who didn't go to junior prom in 2019, thinking, "There's always senior prom next year," and then never getting a chance to go to 2020 prom when school went remote for the pandemic. Causing your kid to miss out on one-of-a-kind experiences to teach them a lesson to ask when you could have tried communicating this expectation with words first -- and then getting INFURIATED when the child won't let him confort her -- REEKS of control. It makes him the a-hole

The guy in the story refusing to let the daughter go to the homecoming dance is a control freak jerk. The daughter may be "back to normal" but you better believe this will fester for years and will be in their relationship for a long time. His refusal to let her go was petty, based solely on his ego and if I were him, if he ever expects her to truly forgive him, I'd truly apologize and talk it through. She never hid it from him, she obviously never thought he'd object. She was excited to share it with him, and he shut her down for no real reason but his petty control issues.

    • @deltadelta6582
      @deltadelta6582 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@booscloud it’s not just about going to homecoming it’s about it falling on his time with her. That’s where the respect side comes into play. If it was on the moms week and he tried doing that I’d wholeheartedly agree with you. It leads to allowing her to just do whatever when she’s supposed to be there regardless of what he says. If the roles were flipped would it be the same way? Would it be different? The world may never know. But I know if it was my kid I’d have said something when she wrote it on the calendar. Like if her dad said she could go on a trip with her friends out of town on one of the days she was supposed to be with her mom and didn’t say anything and she was just gone it’s of a similar philosophy. He could have avoided it all by saying “hey that’s a week you’re with me, I need you to talk to me first for events things like this.” It’s all about communication. But again if it’s on a mom week and he was doing that he’d definitively an ass, this is more being petty unless they’ve had this convo before.

I see it a bit different:
I am deathly allergic to a lot of stuff, like 20+ foods. I never expected my partners to not eat the food that i am allergic to but we do have certain rules when it comes to what is cooked where, what is washed how.
When it comes to kissing: I always ask what they ate/drank. Usually all my partners in the past made sure to remember to warn me/brush their teeth and use mouthwash and wash their face/lips if they ate something i was allergic to. So both sides contribute to me not having an allergic reaction, so in case one fucks up, there is still a „safety net“
So her having a reaction is not just his fault. I too always always always make sure that nothing is in my food and nothing can harm me and ultimatly, it is my responsibility. I have so many allergies that sometimes even my parents forget about one/are scared to forget about one and ask if they cook something for me. So dont get me wrong: a supporting environment is utterly important but it is my allergies, my responsibility. I would never ever ever blame it on somebody except they hid something from me.
So it is at least partly if not mainly her fault as well.
But maybe my view stems from living in a country with public healthcare so i never has to think about paying for an anaphylactic reaction. But i certainly do fear them because they are horrible.

My brother is deathly allergic to most nuts, but in particular peanuts, and very few people outside our family take it seriously enough. If we go out to eat, he tells every waiter to notify the chef about his allergy. In some rare places, a chef comes out and assures him personally on a dish-to-dish basis.
Some places act huffy and ask "how allergic?" Oh I don't know, it will KILL HIM, that bad enough? Or are you also happy allowing your customers to develop rashes just because you're too lazy to ask the fucking kitchen to adhere to appropriate hygiene?
I didn't eat a peanut until I was late teens, and when I did, I thought, wtf is the big deal? Sure, they're fine, and I might eat them when he's not visiting, but if he is, I deep clean and throw away anything nut-related.
His partner grew up eating them, and when they got together, stopped eating them outright. Because not eating peanuts is a miniscule sacrifice to make for the person you love, irregardless of the fact that it might kill them if you do.
The boyfriend is 100% at fault for not considering her allergy, and he easily could have killed her. He should pay the medical bills, end of story.

@201111chris so you are comparing situations where only one person is involved with this situation? Also i would not deem eating something as being „reckless“ behaviour, so no involuntary manslaughter lol. Also as someone affected myself, i know to always ask and make sure. She made the decision to kiss him too, which also caused this, same as him eating the nuts. So both people make a mistake in my opinion. Situation would be different if he lied to her, which would be unacceptable. But she did not take care of herself (which as someone with severe allergies you always have to do). F.e it would be my fault too if i reacted to food from a buffet if i did not make sure nobody contaminated the food with stuff i am allergic to. And it is also my obligation to make sure nobody in my family/nobody of my friends fucks up and forgets at some point.
As i said, it is something BOTH of them have to take care of and make sure to avoid, so she did fuck up just as badly as he did. Just bc only she is affected does not mean it is only his fault.

To the story about the family gathering, the big issue that I see is that everyone expects op to utterly ignore his wife's feelings like he should tell her that she's out of line for wanting to do both families at the same time under One Ruth and start a new tradition where everyone gets together. I don't think it's appropriate for either side of the family of anyone's family to tell somebody that they should tell their spouse to shove their feelings because someone else their feelings are far more important. Hundred percent this. My husband spends 100s of dollars on legos at a time- it's one of his greatest joys. He has a blacksmith's house that is HIS BABY and I know to always be careful and treat it gently because he loves it so much. We've moved twice in the last year and a half from 2 apts into a permanent home and each time I've made sure to secure it so the little apple tree doesn't get broken, or the tiny swords next to the forge don't get lost because if they did he would notice and probably cry. My eyeballs about FELL out of my head when I heard this story- her behavior strikes me as extremely callous, selfish and controlling. A person's loves don't have to make sense to you, especially your partner- you just have to support them. Obviously there are stipulations because life is a gray area, like if it becomes a hoarding situation, but from the details of the story she just sounds extremely miserable to have to live with.

A home is for both of you, not just one. I think at worst, there should be compromise. If there is a spare room, allow him to decorate however he wants or let him decorate a room that isn't the main room. So, in essence, the OP is in the general vicinity of vehicles all the time and knows to be careful. They don't stand in front of or behind them, they don't lie down underneath them, they don't stay under the hood while someone is operating them. But what the boyfriend did was accidentally swerve into them. Yes, it was an accident, but they're responsible for that accident. It was their negligence that caused the OP to go to the hospital. The OP didn't accidentally bend over to pick something up behind a car and get backed over, but were minding their own business on a sidewalk and had someone turn into them. That makes the other person responsible.

The IVF story hits home. I accepted my inability to have children long ago, and I can’t imagine putting myself and my body through multiple miscarriages. I know she’s desperate for a kid, but her body and what she does with it is her CHOICE and no one should feel ashamed for not contributing financially to something that someone else is willingly doing. Also, I don’t thing the sister is the main problem. The parents are, and it’s evident in their pressure in the sister to have a child and go through multiple miscarriages.

I would like to know if Storytime is a parent, because in some cases when it came with some of the parent ones, he was off the mark. Also as a step parent you have zero rights to enforce anything unless they have parental rights. But otherwise, bang on with nearly all the other types of stories, though in some cases I think the other person is the AH would be relevant. Love this best of 2023. Thanks Storytime.

If you hired a nanny and she didn't follow your instructions to the letter? You'd fire her. Flat out gone.
MIL got fired. Flat out. BTW, formula can cause an allergic reaction. How DARE anyone not feed breast milk to your baby. When I used to babysit, I was scrupulous about instructions. My god. The nerve.
And OP's husband is a wimp. If he can't handle Mom, Mom is banished to the outer solar syatem. OP isn't doing anything. MIL chooses to be a jerk. So be a jerk. But not with my baby.

And the ginger hair one, my sister has ginger hair (she was born with strawberry blonde hair but it’s developed into ginger) and she’s never once been bullied for her hair colour so I’m not sure what that mother in law was thinking

Why on earth is the peanut allergic student not either on insurance, or Medicaid?! If her parents won’t claim her on their taxes, she could backdate Medicaid to pay for all medical expenses. There are so many options that I see no reason that a 20 yr old student has a $5000 medical bill, and yes! In the USA!

Not all people with anaphylactic allergies are eligible for Medicaid or disability you have to have a second underlying condition like asthma to be able to qualify for Medicaid or disability even if you have a life-threatening allergy. Also most of the time Medicaid will not backdate insurance and pay for medical bills the 5,000 sounds like it's after insurance play she'll need a new EpiPen which most insurances don't cover.

@@lizmardas9470 i worked as an eligibility tech for Medicaid and Medicare in my county. I know every state is different, but in Colorado, if one person earns even a little more than the poverty line, and no one else claims them on their taxes, they will qualify for Medicaid. I saw many parents opt out of claiming their college age kids on their taxes so the kid can qualify for Medicaid. And as long as they were still within that income bracket the previous 2 months, they will backdate it. Some families had accountants crunch the numbers to see which way made the most sense, and it was usually stop including the kid on your taxes.

in the late check scenario, it sounded like the boss got there the same day, but wasn’t there right away…? so was she going to show up late, grab her check, leave and then deposit it? i need a bigger picture here : /
peanut allergy story: if you are with a partner who had a DEADLY allergy, you essentially have to think like you have that allergy. The guy ate a PEANUT BUTTER CUP. They’ve been together for years and he doesn’t know that seeing one of those in her vicinity is a bright orange flag? I am loathe to imagine that he ate it hours and hours ago and it still lingered in his mouth, so assuming it hadn’t been long since he ate it, why would that taste in his mouth not remind him NOT to put it in hers?
The alternative would look like a daily interrogation, “what was your last meal? Did you have any snacks since?” I don’t have a similar allergy, so IS that a thing people do…?

Im the same way with food. Im recovering from an eating disorder i tried to cut out meat and i started to get really sick and my health was going downhill because i couldn't afford/digest the plant based alternatives so i still eat some meat and prefer wild caught/sustainable meat. Some animals like cats geckos and ferrets aren't meant to go vegan and can die if you mess with their diet. So the same can be said about some humans. I have vegan friends who understand this. 😊

Regarding the woman with the phone problem, you can sometimes switch the phone to “do not disturb “ or if your phone doesn’t have that, most allow you to put it on “airplane mode” which will both silently send all calls to voice mail. If your husband wants to contact you he will have to leave a voicemail or text. Please consider whether or not this is a sign of controlling behavior. This can be the start of an abusive relationship (not necessarily physically abusive). It sounds to me like he is trying to isolate her. If he begins to try and get you to decrease contact with your family or friends, run. Also if he is verbally abusive, or puts you down, or makes passive aggressive remarks this can escalate over time to a dangerous situation-especially after you have children. I’m not assuming this is what is happening, but you might make contact with a domestic violence nonprofit to get more information. Good luck
