I was so mad when I first found out that Dr. Wily's castle with hazards off didn't just make the yellow devil disappear, but the platforms too. We could have had a unique, likely tournament legal stage, but instead we got Final Destination with walls.
"it also has these moving platforms, but who cares..." I do. Those platforms on Wily Castle are neat references to various Mega Man games, have unique functions compared to other platforms in the Smash, and would make the stage actually interesting and not just a flat stage. The problem is that you barely get to see them even with hazards on because they don't spawn when the Yellow Devil does. A version of the stage with platforms but without the devil would be awesome. You'd get a more interesting stage and actually get to see the platforms to their fullest.
The reason why the dive into the heart part of Hollow Bastion is a hazard is because Steve goes from mining stone to mining iron in it, so it does affect gameplay. Edit: guys please stop, I know now this is not true.
Just turn them off when Steve's being played then? Removing something that's super hype and visually beautiful just because of one character is the lamest shit ever.

My personal favourite stage hazard is the shy guys in mario circuit stage, because you can see them on the map in the background so you know when there coming, however you can knock the enemies into the shy guys to do a lot damage. That’s why there my favourite stage hazard
The Mementos stage hazard is great. I once had a CPU bounce straight down, get sent up by a train, and the get KO'd to a Nikita Missile that was flying on straight line (sent from the ledge). It really felt great.
Fun fact: Super Happy Tree (Or Yoshi's Island 64) had a version of the stage without the clouds but it was only in Smash 64 and it could only be used during the Yoshi team battle in 1P mode (Or Classic Mode). Though in Smash Remix (A mod of 64) you can play on it during a VS match. I know this doesn't really matter but I thought it was cool to point out. With hollow bastion, I honestly think the transformed stage is LESS distracting, if anything. There's so much less movement in the background and it's generally a much visually clearer stage overall. Makes me wish we could pick that version of the stage as the default honestly
That's not true. The stage never changes biomes during the battle, you have to select them manually from the stage select screen. The platforms don't move, either.
Very surprised you didn’t mention KOF stadium. It fixes the cheese associated with the walk-off stages by making the blast zones invisible walls until someone collides and gets slammed into them hard enough. It’s fun as hell, disincentives camping, and force’s interactivity. Definitely my pick for the best casual stage in the game. Also on the subject of xenoblade 3’s release date, we just can’t stop winning sorry I don’t make the rules. Don’t blame me blame Monolith soft for being absolutely cracked. XENOBLADE CHRONICLES 3 HYPE!
He mentions it in the quick list starting at 1:20. The stage does not change when hazards are turned off; therefore, for the purposes of this video, it has no hazard to rank. I agree with you that it fixes the walk-off problem quite well, though.
Fun fact: Prior to version 13.0.0, the Shy Guys in Yoshi's Story would always carry food even if items were turned off. This irritated people to no end, because it would've been absolutely PERFECT in hazards on tournaments otherwise (which, imo, has a MUCH better and more interesting legal stage list than hazards off tournaments, since all the legal stages are not only still competively viable, but also more fun). Luckily this was fixed, and now it's absolutely PERFECT.
I forget if I commented this on an earlier video, but in case I didn't: One topic that I think would make for an interesting video would be "Where would all the DLC characters be located on the World of Light Map?" (example: I believe that Sephiroth and Pyra/Mythra would be on the Final Battle map - Sephirot on the Dark Side, Pythra on the Light Side) I haven't seen any videos on this topic, and I think you would do a good job covering it.
5:12 why with a grain of salt? Accessibility is important, and my mother suffers from enough motion sickness she can’t even watch me play Smash. I wish there was a setting to turn on fixed camera mode in regular Smash battles, as it’s only accessible in Special Smash and Training Mode.

22:22 Funnily enough this isn’t actually a guaranteed kill. I say this because I’ve been hit by it before and lived (well lived until getting killed by the water pushing me offstage.)
From an even more strictly competitive standpoint, the best hazards-on elements that improve the competitive stage list would have to be 4. Dreamland's Wind 3. Yoshi's Story Cloud 2. Fountain of Dream's moving platforms 1. Smashville's moving platform I wanted a round top 5 but even with just those changes the stages look a lot better. Plus Small Battlefield over Pokemon Stadium 2 means sets will actually get to end on time.
Prediction for #1: Hallow Bastion or Yoshi Story because they fixed the hazardless version of it. Edit: I was right about Hallow Bastion. Yoshi story got 4th so I had a good prediction
I loved Wrecking Crew with Hazards on, because if you get caught under one of the barrels as it falls on you, you’ll be trapped in it. Kid me thought that was the funniest thing ever.
If in a Smash Bros tournament a main Sora gets to the finals, I really hope Hollow Bastion with hazards gets to be the final stage. Specially against Cloud or Sephiroth.
Ok he definitely made this list without items on. A lot of stage hazards rely on having items on. The mimics on Yggdrasils alter, the duck on duck hunt dropping items, Tomodachi life blocking what items you can see. There’s just so many things that only exist with items on.
@@Odyssey_Central yeah the ducks don’t really do much. It’s the mimics on Yggdrasils alter that are really dangerous though. They’re basically an instant KO if you don’t avoid them.

The Kalos Elite 4 stage is really fun, but it can be annoying like the other pokemon stages and have effects change with the different pokemon that show up. At least with Spear Pillar and the BW stge the other pokemon don't add effect but this with the fire type stage its either "regular stage" or "extreme fire" and I can see how it can make things more challenging
Warioware is absurdly underrated. Hazards take that a super boring stage and transform it into a genuinely entertaining match. power ups you get can be a bit busted but IMO that adds some fun variety.
Eh, I disagree that stage hazards should be penalized for interfering with fights. If anything, hazards that serve little purpose should be ranked way lower, even if by that definition of interferring with fights such hazards would get points. Rationale: If you didn't want interference at all, there's the option of just turning them off.
I'm still really annoyed the hazards toggle was never just added to the stage select screen. It always really annoyed me how I needed to switch rules just to do that.
29:39 Personally I dont really like this stage, but with hazards on it gets worse because those platforms that move let you rack up like 100 damage if you catch your opponent on them with an infinite jab
As someone who finds competitive play in smash really boring I Disagree with alot of the top and bottom of the list Since especially in the top pics the changes were very mundane and don't even have a reason to be classed as a hazard If it was me ranking them personally I would base it on if the hazard wasn't too intrusive but made the game more exciting to play Although I'm glad to see Norfair high on the list
Hazard sets you can toggle would be a cool addition to a smash(or smash-like) game, hell even a stage scene selection would be cool if you wanted to play on a specific version even if it's only one that would turn up mid hazard, etc. edit: and yes that does include Wily's Castle but Yellow Devil is now invincible if you really wanted to be that masochistic :b
I thought Mementos wasn't tournament legal because it has an opposite problem to WarioWare Inc., in that it's too big/the blastzones are too far out Minecraft World has a similar problem, alongside _allegedly_ giving Steve an inherent advantage, which I have just never understood Yes, the stage has all 4 material types Steve can mine, but they also each have their own separate counter from reaching Diamond, and the most ideal ones for Steve to mine are dirt and iron, the former because the shovel isn't used for any attacks, so there's no need to worry about preserving durability for combos and the like, and the latter because [oddly enough] it's the fastest material to reach Diamond with, and is just generally important in Steve's kit due to the minecart and the anvil-based moves needing it
You kinda dropped that Snake's Codecs are still present on shadow moses, but they suffer from being direct transfers from Brawl as Cambell's JP VA passed away and they didn't want to re-record lines involving a new VA for Cambell, but this means it suffers in all other languages. This is why Pit gains Palutena's guidance as a sort of replacement, but it lacks the punch that the codecs had.
Man I’d love to see that. Smash was Nintendo’s way of doing a fighting game, it’s always been incredibly lame to me that tournaments try and squash out almost everything that makes Smash what it is. Have some wild game modes once in a while, the bullshit is fun to watch

Warioware is absurdly underrated. Hazards take that a super boring stage and transform it into a genuinely entertaining match. power ups you get can be a bit busted but IMO that adds some fun variety.
#34 is great, until it flips you over a bottomless pit that you have little chance of escaping from
Eh, I disagree that stage hazards should be penalized for interfering with fights. If anything, hazards that serve little purpose should be ranked way lower, even if by that definition of interferring with fights such hazards would get points.
Rationale: If you didn't want interference at all, there's the option of just turning them off.
It’s a good time when odyssey uploads
I like the touch of the sans mii gunner on the earthbound stage lol
As far as i remember in the 3DS version of smash 4 the turning golden (or atleast from coins) you get super armor

That's the stage that jumpscared the hell outta me every time the drawing goes black🤣
When the vending machine doesn't accept your money 25:16
11:33 that cpu is like "come back i wanna fight :("
Something about Dracula's Castle, but if items are set to appear, then a few candles can appear in the foreground, and you can break them for an item
8:04 competitive be like: because there is a slight change elevation, IT CAN’T BE FAIR.
Pit and snake stage character interactions are so cool
I despise Xenoblade 2, but the Switch isn't exactly lacking in Mario titles, while XC only had two games.
_but that's two more games than F Zero_
The Peckish Aristocrab can spike, huh… now this is a good discovery
Smash Fans: Melee is the best entry
Also Melee: 12:35
I'm still really annoyed the hazards toggle was never just added to the stage select screen. It always really annoyed me how I needed to switch rules just to do that.
29:39 Personally I dont really like this stage, but with hazards on it gets worse because those platforms that move let you rack up like 100 damage if you catch your opponent on them with an infinite jab
As someone who finds competitive play in smash really boring
I Disagree with alot of the top and bottom of the list
Since especially in the top pics the changes were very mundane and don't even have a reason to be classed as a hazard
If it was me ranking them personally I would base it on if the hazard wasn't too intrusive but made the game more exciting to play
Although I'm glad to see Norfair high on the list
The sans is ness joke on some of the earthbound stages mad me laugh SO hard 😂
(19:50) Probably the one time you can have fun causing property damage.
The tornadoes are not easy to avoid, I had multiple situations where one spawned on top of me as the fight started
I watched it like I said I would. Love your content.
15:28 when recovering as ness I once moved a leaf with up b, making it just high enough to stop me from recovering. Hazards are less fun.
Well you played as Ness so you were asking for it.
I thought Mementos wasn't tournament legal because it has an opposite problem to WarioWare Inc., in that it's too big/the blastzones are too far out
Minecraft World has a similar problem, alongside _allegedly_ giving Steve an inherent advantage, which I have just never understood
Yes, the stage has all 4 material types Steve can mine, but they also each have their own separate counter from reaching Diamond, and the most ideal ones for Steve to mine are dirt and iron, the former because the shovel isn't used for any attacks, so there's no need to worry about preserving durability for combos and the like, and the latter because [oddly enough] it's the fastest material to reach Diamond with, and is just generally important in Steve's kit due to the minecart and the anvil-based moves needing it
You got to love that on most of the stages, he uses the characters form from that game
I don't know why, but I love the "YIPPEE!" effect.
You kinda dropped that Snake's Codecs are still present on shadow moses, but they suffer from being direct transfers from Brawl as Cambell's JP VA passed away and they didn't want to re-record lines involving a new VA for Cambell, but this means it suffers in all other languages. This is why Pit gains Palutena's guidance as a sort of replacement, but it lacks the punch that the codecs had.
imagine if there is a hazard tournament
5 stocks, hazards on, maybe some items
Man I’d love to see that. Smash was Nintendo’s way of doing a fighting game, it’s always been incredibly lame to me that tournaments try and squash out almost everything that makes Smash what it is. Have some wild game modes once in a while, the bullshit is fun to watch
