Definitely doing what I can to restore and improve the rig now though...which includes being able to talk to my fellow road warriors. 😂

And heck yeah man restore it!! That will be awesome definitely post videos on it I'd like to see it!! And yes mine is a 97 2500. 60 front 80 rear 3.55 gears im running 16 inch wheels with 33s right now until they wear out then I'm going to 35s

@@vacountryboylifestyle5097 sorry for the late reply! The notification got lost in the feed I guess.
Sounds like you got a great truck spec yourself! I think I can visualize your CB mount too. Looking at mine I should be able to make a similar modification and get it ready for my larger CB. Ironically it's the same one you have installed.
About the restoration...I definitely want to do it, but I'm a bit unsure where to start.
Firstly there's the immediate maintenance issues and repairs like new rotors, clutch, 5th gear fix and such, but someday I'd like to go really deep and pull everything apart, sandblast the frame rails, cab, bed, and repaint everything. Send out the engine for a total rebuild with forged parts, completely new wiring...the works. Eventually I want to make it into my main (small) hauling rig. Perhaps even the truck that I can retire with someday!
But the total bill for that...I don't want to even guess at right now. Baby steps.
I'll definitely post some videos of what I can do myself though, probably on a dedicated channel! Definitely want to keep mine alive as long as possible. This specific generation has its flaws, but it's still special.

5th gear fix was super easy to fix on mine. All you have to do is remove the transfer case take the tail housing off and you slide the gear back on and tighten your gear hold nut back up. I bought a lock off of ebay that slid on the tail shaft and holds that lock nut from backing off and put it back together and no more issues. And you don't have to remove the Trans from the truck

    • @vacountryboylifestyle5097

Should be the same bell housing for the 99. The swap is very easy. It's just heavy lol. But with the 99 being a 24v you might need to check on the computer situation. Mine has no computer for the engine. I don't know if a auto computer with affect the engine if it has a 5 speed but hardest part for my swap was trying to find a donor truck but you can do the swap without the donor truck you just have to find the pedals and all. But it's very worth it!! Trust me!! Good luck 🙂

I see this truck was an auto before…did you do the swap your self? If so, did you swap out the pcm and put one from a manual truck on yours? I did a manual swap on my 2001 Cummins, nv4500 swap. And before I go through the gears once, it wont go over 2000 rpm’s in 1st and 2nd gear…

    • @vacountryboylifestyle5097

It's the same pcm. It's a 97. 12v. No computer for the engine. It runs the same as it did with a auto. Just alot more fun lol. I bought a 95 12v that had the nv4500 drove it home. Swapped the Trans and the pedals and that was it. Sold the rest of the truck almost for what I paid for it and the auto Trans that all most paid for everything I did in the swap.
