You guys are quite the retro duo yourselves, har har har. :) I'm not sure about the system itself, but I'm definitely gonna get those awesome adapters, turn my SNES into a one stop system for Nintendo and Sega games. Rad!
I wasn't sure where to post this but screw it. Huge fan, keep up the great work. Love the pickups videos as well as your hidden gems videos, you really got me back into collecting :)
Honestly this is the best review of this product I have seen so far, most others have glossed over NES compatibility and you guys have been much more extensive in add-on compatibility. Great job.
Aside from being a good two-perspective review of this product, I loved this video because of the humor involved. You have a great chemistry and it's amusing to me to see you each take a few playful digs at each other in this manner-- not to mention the funny epilogues for each of your vids which make me laugh almost every time. With the RetroN 5 delayed 'til spring, this is tempting as a purchase... though the issue with the trigger button placement does put me off a bit. Also... Rad Racer II is incompatible? BOO. The RetroDuo is a neat concept, and certainly is one that I wished for 20 years ago. I just don't know that I'd be interested in it now as a portable, given that I have the original hardware to play the games on as I choose at home and don't have many situations to game on the go when I'm not home. Hopefully we'll see more product reviews from you in the weeks to come. Happy New Year-- and continued success in 2014!
I have the original (non portable) retro duo. I love it! Though my only major qualm is that it can often significantly distort colors on the NES games and mute them a bit on the SNES games. Still, as you mentioned, the sheer quantity of games it's capable of playing is impressive. I'd be interested to see if the GBA and Gen adaptor work on their previous models.
I also have the original retro duo and I agree. The NES games sometimes are in black and white. Or have a bunch of static on screen. SNES seems to work pretty good.
i have an older model retroduo as well as the gensis adapter it works perfect with every game i own except evander holyfeilds boxing for some odd reason i have a hand full of these carts and not one worked
With TH-cam-ageddon in full swing, it's great to find channels that are still putting out vids (most of my game related ones have dried up). I've been watching your vids for a couple of weeks now, and they just keep getting better. Thanks! :)
I've had good experiences with mine. I spend a good couple hours commuting by bus each day, so that's quite a lot of extra playing time in a given week. I also took it to a friend's place while housesitting and hooking it up to the tv worked great.
That was the funniest moment in all of Game Sack. XD When Joe said, "This is as comfortable as holding the balls of God!" I had to stop the video because I was laughing so hard.
The Tower of power, so hilarious. Another great episode guys! Thanks! I always love the possibility to get more out of a gaming console with adapters. But I never feel they have a good quality. The retro duo is no exception for me :(
Apparently the buzzing in the headphones is because it has composite video on the 3rd lead of the minijack, so that's what causes the buzz on a 2-lead headphone minijack. I think if you use a 3-lead jack (ie a headphones with a microphone) that should isolate the noise away?
If you have "piano" (really long) fingers like I do, the button layout is a bit more comfortable in the hand. Yes the adapters can be a bit hard on the budget, but give the system a much larger library that goes backwards and sideways which if you're into classic gaming, this is a perfect console then.
I watched so many RDP reviews during the past few weeks but Game Sack's review is the definite one to go for, for anyway's who's really interested in purchasing the system and/or a good laugh.
Happy New Year, GameSack! Loved the review, you guys are getting better each episode. Definitely decided against getting that portable, despite wanting one.
I bought one spur of the moment and I have to say I was really impressed! you guys brought up some real solid points and you will really get some bang for your buck with all the adapters at a relatively low price. Plus who doesn't want to play the original versions of ffII and ffII on the go
I love how the RetroGen adapter is not just a Sega Genesis on a chip but also a Sega Master System on a chip adapter as well so basically Retrobit just gave us two systems in one adapter for the Super NES, you just need to plug in the Power Base Converter to get SMS compatibility. That to me is awesome on Retrobit's part, even some of the actual Genesis brand systems doesn't had Sega Master System support like the Genesis Model 3, Sega Nomad, and the AtGames Sega Genesis.
I've been subscribed to Gamesack for a long time and I generally find this show quite entertaining... But this is probably my favorite episode so far, especially the bit at 4:50 :)
Great episode guys as it always, quite an awesome piece of retro gaming kit I wouldn't mind getting one myself to do until I have the space to hold the original consoles.
Okay, I'm just gonna be straight-up honest here, guys. I love your stuff and always find it very informative, well-edited and professionally-made, and get enough entertainment value out of it for those reasons... but as you often acknowledge, it's rarely all that *funny*. But man, in this ep... oh my god, the Tower of Power bit and everything around there... I was on the floor. Absolutely had me in stitches -- I'm really glad you finally did it! I'm so proud! Keep it up!
Great video like usual, I was thinking about buying that console, but now Im more interested into the GBA adapter for SNES, I had no idea such think existed.
Just have to share that I enjoyed the music at the end which is Super Adventure Island stage 2-1 (yuzo koshrio goodness). That tune aways puts a tear in my eye because it makes me think of the good times I had with my friends during that time period. Why do good times have to end? *sigh*
I love your guys' on-screen schtick, but I'd like to see a little more of the natural interactions between you two... sometimes the whole "frienemy" thing seems a bit forced, but it's still fun.
RetroBit makes a different NES adaptor for the SNES. I'm guessing this adapter was made specially for the RDP to help hold the cartridge in place on a portable device.
Got one for Christmas and I love it. I thought the screen was fine but the speakers are terrible. When I played secret of evermore the really bassy sounds were staticy. I also couldn't get castlevania 3 to play but the was the only game in my snes and nes collection
The best review I've seen on this product. Wish I had seen this before I bought it a few weeks ago. I really like the retroduo but feel like there's still a ways to go before it's perfected. My biggest peeves are the L+R buttons in front (as you mentioned, should be in back) and the twitchy cartridge slot. I had my Super Metroid save file glitch out and erase from the cartridge wobbling around too much while playing.
I wonder if any homebrew efforts will ever take advantage of lock-on technology. It seems like it could have tons of potential; physical DLC/add-ons or mods.
The Retro Duo is also compatible with the Super Game Boy device. The Retro Duo Portable is capable of playing Super NES cartridges via a large cartridge slot in the back. The Retro Duo Portable also supports NES, Genesis, and Game Boy games with an appropriate cartridge adapter for each system.
I lost my shit laughing at this review. "Holding the balls of God" my favorite quote ever. I love that you guys threw everything including the kitchen sink at those adapters. This was the review I never knew I needed.
That Tower of Power was crazy!
OMG I laughed so hard at the tower of power my guts are on fire and I think I broke a rib. I just wasn't expecting that at 2am. thanks guys
The cartridge tower! Couldn't stop laughing!
if somehow I could plug the 32X into a portable power source, I could play with the cartridge tower on the commuter
You guys are quite the retro duo yourselves, har har har. :)
I'm not sure about the system itself, but I'm definitely gonna get those awesome adapters, turn my SNES into a one stop system for Nintendo and Sega games. Rad!
OMG the Master System / 3D segment was fucking EPIC! So damn funny
I wasn't sure where to post this but screw it. Huge fan, keep up the great work. Love the pickups videos as well as your hidden gems videos, you really got me back into collecting :)
I loved the tower of power with the Game Genie, hilarious!
You'll be the coolest kid on the school bus with this!
Hahahaha i know its three years but you should do a colaboration together.
This here video is undoubtedly one of your best videos to date. 4:50, I truly, truly lost it.
Me too, man! It doesn't happen often to me, but at that moment I really laughed out loud :D
"this is as comfortable as holding the balls of god" lmao
The laugh at the end kills me. I watched it like 4 times.
lololol I just had to watch it three times
Yes. The laugh is very funny. I was amused at Joe's laugh. I watched it multiple times, because it humors me. Ah, laughter.
That should really be the tagline for the Retro Duo Portable: "It's like holding the BALLS OF GOD!"
Finally, I can play gba games on the go.
Terrific review fellas.
Man, I am bummed it took me this long to find this channel...
great content, topics, editing, humor, and overall just an amazing channel! :D
Honestly this is the best review of this product I have seen so far, most others have glossed over NES compatibility and you guys have been much more extensive in add-on compatibility. Great job.
your reviews are always top notch, happy new year's eve and cheers for many more Game Sack episodes for us, fame and fortune for you guys!
Haha omg the tower of power is falling down lol. I love it! 🙂

One of the funniest retro reviews I've seen in a while.
4:46 - omg, that is gold
By far yours review of The Retro Duo Portable is THE BEST review of these system on the You Tube! great job guys!
Game Sack just keeps getting better, great job Joe and Dave!
With TH-cam-ageddon in full swing, it's great to find channels that are still putting out vids (most of my game related ones have dried up). I've been watching your vids for a couple of weeks now, and they just keep getting better. Thanks! :)
We plan to keep making them on TH-cam! Thanks for watching!
This is easily the funniest review of the Retroduo portable. Also the most thorough review.
Love the Top Gear music in the background during Dave's intro. Probably my favorite SNES racing game.
That tower of adapters and games at around 4:57 was hilarious! Good old 90s consoles and their crazy accessories.
Love that Super Adventure Island song at the end. You guys ROCK!!
you will be the coolest kid in the bus .... if there is enough space for your huge adaptor tower ...
Imagine seeing this on your way to work/school.
wow.. what a special episode. Please review MORE of these special-type of retro systems !
I've had good experiences with mine. I spend a good couple hours commuting by bus each day, so that's quite a lot of extra playing time in a given week. I also took it to a friend's place while housesitting and hooking it up to the tv worked great.
THE TOWER OF POWER I am up to date on game sack vids and that is still my favorite part ever!
Wow, you answered every "what if" question I could've ask in this video.
4:50 I lost it ahahaha!
I JUST paused the video at that EXACT moment to make the EXACT same comment. Brilliant stuff!
That was the funniest moment in all of Game Sack. XD When Joe said, "This is as comfortable as holding the balls of God!" I had to stop the video because I was laughing so hard.
@@GhostsDontWalk1 yep, same here and reading your comment makes me laugh again just thinking about it.
I love you guys so much! The best show ever. Happy old year.
Dave is the best. He even has his own code on the turbo!
Probably the funniest video you guys have done yet, and was informative. All packed into 12 minutes!
ROFL at the Power Coverter stack!.... Then, I DIED at the 32x pass thru floppin around!!! I was instantly a fan, nice work you two!
Just recently begin watching your channel. Fantastic content!
Thanks! :)
The Tower of power, so hilarious. Another great episode guys! Thanks! I always love the possibility to get more out of a gaming console with adapters. But I never feel they have a good quality. The retro duo is no exception for me :(
Joe and Dave, you are both awesome. Thanks for another fun video!
I just lost it when joe had all the those attachments and it worked, too dang funny. :D
Bought one after seeing this review, and I frigging love it. I have the black one, and it looks just as spiffy.
Thanks, Joe and Dave!
Glad your channel is doing well. You guys deserve it.
YUP!
Apparently the buzzing in the headphones is because it has composite video on the 3rd lead of the minijack, so that's what causes the buzz on a 2-lead headphone minijack. I think if you use a 3-lead jack (ie a headphones with a microphone) that should isolate the noise away?
I really love your channel guys! Keep up the good work, such a breath of fresh air with all those JonTron-style reviewers (Caddicarus, PBG, etc)
If you have "piano" (really long) fingers like I do, the button layout is a bit more comfortable in the hand. That was HILARIOUS Joe! You must have had a lot of fun filming that!
Joe and Dave, u are my dudes. I love your vids. It helps me get the past the drudgery of work. Great review. Keep doing what u guys do
Adventure island sound track, on of my favorites. Good review.
Happy New Year, GameSack!
Loved the review, you guys are getting better each episode.
Definitely decided against getting that portable, despite wanting one.
Great one guys, nice to see videos more regularly from you two
I bought one spur of the moment and I have to say I was really impressed! you guys brought up some real solid points and you will really get some bang for your buck with all the adapters at a relatively low price. Plus who doesn't want to play the original versions of ffII and ffII on the go
Came from gamester81 video. I liked both reviews about retro duo 2. Thanks gamesack.
Daves face is priceless when Joe mentions that hes the best and will go first.
awesome video!
The portable Sonic Tower was funny.
Also, really amazing to see Genesis games running on SNES.
finally some one who reviews multiple console carts other than the main three
Yeah! You put all those attachments on that portable. That is hardcore!
I love how the RetroGen adapter is not just a Sega Genesis on a chip but also a Sega Master System on a chip adapter as well so basically Retrobit just gave us two systems in one adapter for the Super NES, you just need to plug in the Power Base Converter to get SMS compatibility. Excellent review - hilarious. Most informative and most fun of all the people who are reviewing this thing.
Great episode guys as it always, quite an awesome piece of retro gaming kit I wouldn't mind getting one myself to do until I have the space to hold the original consoles.

Just got the RDP for Christmas. Man this thing is amazing!
You're just realizing this?
happy new year!! game sack...and wish u guys many more episodes for 2014.and thank you for the last episode of 2013..
Awesome video as usual. You guys are my favorite channel on TH-cam.
Great review. I was thinking about buying one of these, but I may just get the adapters instead.
That Tower of Sega was hilarious!
What about the d-pad? Does it still go all the way down? Loved the tower of power!
New Game Sack = late Christmas present!!! Thanks Santa!
Was waiting for the Tower of Power reference. Wasn't disappointed.
You guys finally got the Tales of Phantasia spelling correct. Thumbs up.
Great video like usual, I was thinking about buying that console, but now Im more interested into the GBA adapter for SNES, I had no idea such think existed.
4:45 SO PORTABLE!
LOL
It's great but you did nail all the minor issues i have with it as well
That adaptor tower part of the video is one of the funniest portable game things I have ever seen online. Great video guys.
I love that TOWER OF POWER, it looks so portable!
great episode fellas the tower was killer!
Just have to share that I enjoyed the music at the end which is Super Adventure Island stage 2-1 (yuzo koshrio goodness). That tune aways puts a tear in my eye because it makes me think of the good times I had with my friends during that time period. Why do good times have to end? *sigh*
2 episodes in 4 days that's awesome
I almost died laughing at all the adapters stacked on top of each other! Lol!!!
8:57 Puyo puyo 4/~n is twice as red i wanted to play it on the go
This looks like a really good product; I'll consider purchasing it in the future. Excellent video!
Joe checking out all the Sega adapters, commenting on how comfortable it was.. priceless.
Joe, i laughed so much at your tower of connections. Thank you so much for this video guys!! :)
I love your guys' on-screen schtick, but I'd like to see a little more of the natural interactions between you two... sometimes the whole "frienemy" thing seems a bit forced, but it's still fun.
Agree. You have guys online that all they do is curse alot an get angry. Why kids like them so much is beyond me.
Game sack is a entertaining show.
Hey, now, you don't have to be a kid to enjoy a little Rage Quit, hehe
Getting fierce with that Portable Tower of Power, Joe? That intense lower lip bite is a nice touch.
It's heavy! :)
The tower of consoles made me lose my shit
same! sick profile pic btw!
0:48 Dave's reaction is epic!
RetroBit makes a different NES adaptor for the SNES. I'm guessing this adapter was made specially for the RDP to help hold the cartridge in place on a portable device.
Thank you, your videos always make me smile.
Got one for Christmas and I love it. I thought the screen was fine but the speakers are terrible. When I played secret of evermore the really bassy sounds were staticy. I also couldn't get castlevania 3 to play but the was the only game in my snes and nes collection
LOL I always love the goofy endings to these videos. Great job as always guys ha ha.
I had my Super Metroid save file glitch out and erase from the cartridge wobbling around too much while playing.
oh man, im dying at the base converter shot
Hehe! Funny episode. I especially liked the part where Joe had that tower of extensions.
One of your best reviews, thx guys!
We love Rastan so much that we're now playing with his spiritual successor: Volgarr the Viking!
It's funny seeing how tall that thing is with all that stuff attached to it. Now you're playing with power, a tower of power.
All the best for 2014 and keep up the creativity :).
Yes I believe I mentioned all of this in the video.
I lost my shit laughing at this review. "Holding the balls of God" my favorite quote ever. I love that you guys threw everything including the kitchen sink at those adapters. This was the review I never knew I needed.
