Hello, friend. As an Australian, I think it's important to be straightforward with you, especially considering the substantial amount of money you're investing.
Here's the deal: In Australia, your educational qualifications, whether it's a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD, don't carry as much weight as you might think. This is because many young Australians have university degrees, making it quite common.
What matters more to employers are your work ethic, personality, and how well you fit into Aussie culture. Although a university degree is necessary for STEM fields, having one alone won't guarantee you a job.
Now, here's the straightforward part: Australians generally prefer hiring individuals who have integrated well into Australian culture. This doesn't mean abandoning your own culture, but rather understanding and embracing the Australian way of life.
I work as a structural engineer in a top-tier company, and it's a very culturally diverse workplace. However, one common thread among my colleagues is their understanding of Australian culture and having Australian friends.
Australians can pick up on whether you're making an effort to blend in. If you exclusively associate with people from your own background, they can sense it, even if they don't explicitly say it, possibly due to concerns about racism.
Honestly, one of the most beneficial things you can do for employability is to actually integrate into Australian culture.

As an Australian, the quality of our universities have fallen because they have become businesses fuelled by international students.

Consider attending Deakin University or RMIT instead, as they offer more affordable options. It's not entirely true that getting a job is extremely difficult; it might require some references, but it's manageable. However, you might not get a job directly related to your field of study; you might end up doing odd jobs like food delivery or factory work. Personally, I managed to pay off all my fees while studying. The University of Melbourne is challenging to study at; it's quite demanding.

I agree it is not a wise decision to spend so much money on Melbourne university but, Psychology does have scope in case a person wants to be a special needs teacher with major in psychology , early childhood education teacher also digital marketing is a growing field with a 14% growth in jobs in next 5 years and as far as commerce is concerned accounting still have a lot of jobs if you are a CPA holder USA/Australia with some relevant work experience so I highly disagree with the above mentioned things you said in the video.

I also said that there are exceptions! Majority of the students are still unemployed including my batchmates and seniors. But thank you for your insight!

As an Aussie I disagree with @paulsharma4807 - there may be some jobs, but barely any of them will be taken by non Australians (even the Indians are Aussie primary and high schooled). There is a formal scheme for high demand jobs and psychology and commerce is NOT one. So you are wrong.
Engineering type fields have some scope.

@@Nerdificationing I haven’t heard of anyone who is a CA/CPA holder that has really struggled to get a job in accounting. Also early childhood teachers has one of the highest demands in the country at the moment . Psychology jobs are mostly in teaching field where you need an excellent English score and a bachelor or master degree then it’s all good to go

@paulsharma4807 also depends on expectations, no way you can make 200k plus in those roles. So scope is limited in terms of upward mobility.

Some extracts frm tis video 1) if one is considerin global/international UK/USA opportunities (jobs, post-grad, research etc) then UniMelb is well-regarded & advantageous. 2)If one is considerin Aussie PR, dont spend so much on costly UniMelb as other Aust Unis (lower fees) r equally recognised by Aust govt reviewing PR applicants.😃Well, for MOST undergrads, global international UK/USA opportunities/networks r very important, thus UniMelb is ideal.//Video title is misleading for stus/alumni who think highly of UniMelb. Kindly consider editin this video's title to a neutral tone eg: "Re-consider Uni of Melbourne unless...."
