  • This video is all about upgrading my 14-inch bandsaw.It was a pain to adjust the blade tension with the factory tensioning handle so I installed a new longer tension handle,then I noticed my rubber tires have seen better days so it was time to swap them out with new urethane tires and finally I installed a fresh new carter 1/2inch 3 TPI blade and then I demonstrated how I set up my bearing guides and reinstalled my custom auxiliary table

    Nice job on the table fence. Why I am here. 2 major things for you and your viewers to consider. Number 1, your blade safety guard is installed backwards (long black guard on left side of saw which job is to prevent blade from coming out if it snaps). Easy fix, remove covers and flip it! Number 2, your barrings will prematurely wear the way you have them set up. Under no tension, NOTHING should move but the blade. I suggest anyone watching Alex Snodgrass's bandsaw tune up video. Nice channel

      @MsSomeonenew 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'll agree for the back bearings, but if the sides aren't on the blade you sacrifice a whole lot of accuracy. For some cuts that is fine but in others it absolutely isn't.

    I've got that same bandsaw. Found your video looking for tips on installing the urethane tires. These saws can be upgraded way beyond where you went. Mine has the ball bearing blade guides, plus riser block kit for much better resaw capacity, Grizzly tension / release mechanism, MLCS safety power switch on the post when my OE switch died. Wheel brush. I am about to add a 2.5" dust port to the bottom of the lower blade shroud as the OE pickup location is more or less useless.

    LOL. Good thing you slyly, without mention, vacuumed out the band saw interior between removing the old tires and installing the new. Would have made a mess of those new tires otherwise. By the way, did you think we wouldn't notice? That's nearly always my first step when working inside the band saw, so I noticed.

    good stuff patrick!-i like the handle and aux table! i just got some new tires not that long ago.. it took me awhile to figure a way out had to get the tires on but I ended up using my heat gun I like the boiling method though

    • @Patricksworkshop
      @Patricksworkshop  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Joe basementwoodworking i can tell you that heating them with hot water made it a super delightful process to change and it didnt over heat the tire and put any weak spots on them so i am confident they will last a very long time also i with the price of the tires i didnt want to chance messing them up thanks for watching

      I tapped the holes to 1/4 20 and added double bearings I was looking at the guide upgrade from carter products but it was to expensive heres what i was looking at www.carterproducts.com/band-saw-products/band-saw-conversion-kits/cent-14# so i modified mine instead if u have the guide blocks on your saw i know alot of people who prefer that type best bet is the carter ones or making some ur self my bandsaw is theCentral Machinery 14" inch from 2006

      I see others do it that way but personally I like the blade touching so it don't flex and I feel it gives my more control thanks for watching

    what about a fence ---the cheapest aftermarket ive seen is 169.00----kinda defeats the purpose of buying harbor freight---does the table have pre-drilled holes to accept a fence---if u google harbor freight bandsaw fence u get the shipping pack directions for a fence---what do u think ?

      @Patricksworkshop  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey Greg the table does have the mounting holes also i have been looking at a few aftermarkert fences but im a cheapskate and think i can build a very nice one thats more better and can add other features to it stay tuned for that check out the fence i made a few years back that fits on my auxiliary top th-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=nCyzX6NBCFU thanks for watching

    Hello Patrick
    I happened to find a band saw used very similar to yours before you buy it, and I would like to know your thoughts on it.
    regards

    will these up grades work on all band saws?

    • @Patricksworkshop
      @Patricksworkshop  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +joseph poncik a lot of the newer bandsaws already have these upgrades on them My bandsaw is from 2003 so it's kind of a little older and needed in all these parts anyway, I believe most 14 inch bandsaws are similar in many many ways so yes I do believe so thank you so much for watching
