Last year I got Murphy Lab R9 Heavy Aged, Golden Poppy. I found it online, the perfect color and look. I thought about it for a few hours late at night and sent an email to the music store. I went to the music store early in the morning on the train without sleeping. When I opened the case and picked it up, it was clearly less than 4kg. A few strokes unplugged and I made up my mind.Of course I also put it in the amp, a Marshall 1W tube, which I hate lol. But for some reason it wasn't a sound that I disliked, it sounded good to me.Poppy was the name of the dog I lived with. Poppy came to me because I am grieving her death. This is my third Les Paul. I like the slim neck and the slightly heavy weight, Poppy doesn't bother me.

Really nice sounding Les Pauls, thank you for sharing.
Funny, you discussing all the vintage parts you gathers up for the chambered R9, it made me think of some of my projects.
Its so exciting hunting down and acquiring the parts, however, there was a part of me that was sad when I'd completed the project!
Don't get me wrong, I've been totally stoked about every one of my finished projects, its just the hunt/search that I miss.
Kind of like the melon coli when finishing a good book.

Respectfully, these are both "top of the line" Gibson Les Paul guitars and they should both just sound and feel superb. The fact that both guitars have "Vintage PAF's" does not mean they should sound identical. In fact, I would expect the opposite and that they should not sound identical, because of 5 variables, for reasons including: (a) No two pickup sets are can have magnets or windings that are "twins", especially vintage pickups; (b) There may differences in the wiring components between the two guitars; (c) I cannot believe both guitars have "identical" setups; (d) The 1960 Les Paul Standard VOS 60th Anniversary came in 3 flavors, v1, v2 and v3 with v1 being in essence a 1959 Les Paul VOS up to the v3 having a significantly different neck configuration; and (e) The 60th Anniversary of the 1960 Les Paul Standard is VOS built, meaning that the components are supposed to be the same materials along with finish (even the glue used in construction) and the construction would be such as they would have built it in 1960. So, a proper comparison would be a vintage late in 1960 Les Paul Standard with its original unpotted PAF's against the 60th Anniversary of the 1960 VOS Les Paul Standard v3 that has unpotted Custombucker PAF's, In the end though, both guitars you used are amazing specimens of guitars.

Thank you for being honest about Bartlett. I was going to buy one on the used
market but like your experience i had seen a few others that also found issues with their Bartlett.
I would up going with a new in box Leftover 2023 Murphy Lab heavy aged R9 and could not be happier!
It weight 8.5lbs and rings and sustians even unplugged the guitar has a great tone. I payed Less for this ML R9
than what the Bartlett was going for. it is pictured in my YT avatar pic.

@@Murphy_R9 oh yeah. I hope it helps some make a decision. I didn't list all the issues and communications kind of on purpose. I also had corroboration from other who've had them, and even Tom said some of his choices or the issues I felt were wrong were intentional.
The finishing issues were not small for sure .

@@scottjua To be honest i am happier with the Gibson. not only is it a great 59 clone but IF i ever want to sell it a Gibson
sells much easier and faster than some of independent builders. There are exceptions like a old Gil Yaron 59, those sell FAST!

Trouble with people making " FAKE " Gibson les Pauls co's that's what they are , if they get re sold to someone who sells it for the real thing then someone is getting ripped off a good luthier will NOT put Gibson on the headstock he would proudly put his own name on the guitar .

@@LesPaul4684 they both have really their own voice which is great for me. I don't have to justify one over the other, since they're so different. Also in feel with the necks being drastically different.
