- Today we're taking a break from all the public transit work, instead trying out some absolutely awesome new mods and custom assets and zoning types! We put all this to use by revamping the low-density residential neighborhood of Northside, transforming it into a more dense, hipster-rich area full of row-houses, shops, cafes, restaurants, and expensive coffee! Hope you enjoy!

Infrastructurist
the timelapse tunes absolutely slapped, do you know the artist(s)?

You gotta use Shazam! Here's what I got...
30:48 Dylan Sitts - Past Life Limbo
36:07 Hogarth - Lupus Nocte
41:03 Luwaks - Portable Unit
47:00 Dream - Satya
50:07 Nuer Self - Waves
Почему правые поворота запрещены на перекрёстках, левые аж с двух полос сделал, а правые вообще нельзя поворачивать?, почему?
2:39 you gotta build OUT more with sprawling suburbs rather than densifiying everything since this is after all north america.
Don't drain it entirely! Definitely do some land reclamation for parks and pedestrian areas, but leave some water for wetlands, small streams, and maybe an old unused canal!
Environmentally a highway would face much opposition in a water way that's only fault was bad water source. That can be fixed by the way. But I like the idea of just letting it dry up with some strategic land additions and keep it all park. a crazy two sides trail running the length, twisting back on itself, connecting, for the bikers we know are in the game lol. If you build it, they will come. Cough cough CO
I agree !
I’m telling you now if any of this stuff gets implemented in the game naturally with no bugs OMG THE OUTCOME OF THIS GAME WILL BE MONUMENTAL. I can’t wait until the game is loaded with more assets
Agree! I am worried about "long term" stability of the game with mod counts creeping up, so I also hope they bake as much into the base game as possible to reduce the complexity.
@@Infrastructurist I saw you cobbling together a parking lot in this video and I'm wondering if you like the Parking Lot Roads from CS1. I really liked that function vs. having to use separate parking lot assets on the side of roads. Would love if that was put in the base game, and I think it would be easy because they already have code for cars parking on the sides of roads, so you'd only have to slightly modify that.
Performance is a concern of mine as well. Even if the mods are perfectly stable, a big mod list could make the game unplayable if the game itself continues to be so poorly optimized.
i found a Colosal Order employee. Please stop trying to force us to like your horrible game via the cs content creators i love. If infrastructurist wasnt being paid by you guys this video wouldnt exist. Manor lords is a better city building game, actually beautiful and deep simulation. And if you want the modern take the best option right now is workers and resourcess, hope cs dies and lets other games flourish. To much disrespect from you guys
@@jpbm4330 what are you talking about? I and many others want the game to flourish and get finished. I love manor lords but that is totally a different style of game. Same with W&R. Just don't play CS2 if you don't like it, instead of making hating the game part of your personality.
I love the new direction you’ve taken with Northside. Now that it’s a trendy, gentrified neighborhood blended with long-time residents, I believe good public transportation is essential. The newly widened main street is an excellent candidate for a tram line that would connect Northside with Downtown. The fact that the only hospital in the area is located near the main street further supports the need for this tram line. Additionally, neighborhood circulator buses could link the east and west sides of Northside with the tram and with each other.
Great suggestionen, was thinking of supporting North Side with a Tram line myself.
If you completely drain the river, you can build an open air metro that connects the north and south ends of the city.
Yes! That would look so cool!
Urbanist Moses be like (not that one)
good idea
And a pedestrian path
GREAT IDEA! :D
I think a "S-Bahn" style commuter Rail would be very exiting, make a lot of sense for this city cluster and also be a interesting thing to build :D
the problem with the costum river is that the water can bypass the dam with it and that the pointed islands and its shape are quite unrealistic, the whole river needs a little straightening and modification (e.g. put a dam at the end if the ends cannot be lead to the front of the dam) it would be good DO NOT DELETE IT! because it has become an iconic part of the city, my main problem with it is that the water cannot flow in it due to the unevenness of the bed, which in reality would not develop this way..
I think you should keep the river but definitely make an attempt at raising the water levels. Maybe add a selection of pedestrian bridges and crossings to make it look more interconnected and some park spaces around that would look great!
Welcome back from your holiday mate! haha what a time to go away, but glad to see you finally getting stuck into all the amazing new tools. The main intersection has so much character to it, with the mosiacs and custom zoning! also good to see you use Dome's parking lots! Thanks for featuring our mods and assets and look forward to seeing what you do in future with them 🙌
Thanks a lot brotato, appreciate it. The future is starting to look bright for CS2, so far carried on the backs of the modding community :-)
48:16 I think a name like Bohemian Street or Hickory Avenue would be fitting
Oh man, 'Bohemian Street' smells very hip. Avocado hip!
@@Infrastructurist How about Bohemian Boulevard
bohemian street feels a bit on the nose. maybe just Bohemia Street?
You literally were one of my favorite/first city skylines players
If its an American city, and you haven't named a street as Martin Luther King Blvd yet, then it would be very realistic to rename Briarwood to that.
Or JFK
I think an absolutely amazing idea for along that little river would be to keep it but add a suburban rail service along the length of it and maybe do some terraforming and custom stations too it’s a perfect spot
You shouldn't (IRL) plant fruit bearing trees in road median. Hickory nuts are big enough that if they fall on the windshield of a car doing 35 mph (56 kmh) or faster they would probably crack the glass causing an accident. They sure are pretty though. 😁Love the content, was glad to see someone who didn't just abandon the game. Some creators I watch went more than 2 months without posting CS2 content waiting for mods to come. So keep up the good work.
If u are draining the river I suggest making a park on the river bed like the one in Valencia, Spain. There they also did the same and drained the river and they were choosing between a highway and a park but the residents of Valencia wanted a park so they built it.
Holy shit, DO NOT drain the side river. It is a gem and a great asset for the citizens. The greenery adjecent to it likely helps reduce the heat island effect, promotes breezes, and I likely a popular location for grilling and hanging out. You should rather revitilize it by properly adding paths and content alongside it.
With the river drained you could do like in Valencia - Spain, where the river was drained to prevent flooding and it was transformed into a huge park that crosses the entire city.
Another vote to keep the river!
The shot at 49:41 is just beautiful! I love that we can finally see real detail added to the game (even if it's mods).
That said, I am loving how CS2 is getting better and better! And, it seems CO has finally got their heads out of the sand and is taking notes from the community. Only way from here is up!
I always love the music you use in your timelapses, it’s exactly my kind of genre so it’s great vibing out while watching you build😉
Yeah it’s one of the only channels with actually good Timelapse music
I noticed some of the intersections in Northside are missing right turns.
Also adding more parks would be a nice buffer. 💙
Also cars doesn’t use the specified left way lane at 38:35 which causes unnecessary que for cars going straight or right
I'd say that if the smaller river is to be drained, the best thing to do with it would be to keep the ground lower than the surrounding areas, as to keep the look of a dried up riverbed, and create a sort of pedestrian highway. Parts of it can be park-like, I'd add a bunch of young trees, some hang-out areas, etc. Bicycles may not be an actual part of the game yet, but that would be a good lore explanation for it, just a pedestrian/bicycle highway to connect the entire right bank of the river.
The ability to create custom builds at this stage amazes me with what modders have achieved at just this stage in the game. I do feel this is going to be incredible in like 2 years time with fully fleshed out assets and mods. Loved the bit when you made the little hospital additional parking lot, I Learned allot.
Man that's a sweet build! I see Bohemia Boulevard gaining traction and love that name but you've surely got to add Avocado Avenue somewhere down there... I'm almost tempted to make a pack of _avocado_ themed wall decor! Love it dude... keep them coming. Can't wait to see how Chowder Bay develops with all this new stuff too.
Can’t remember if you’ve already done something like this (Riverview has been growing for a long time now!), but it would be cool to maybe see a more run-down neighbourhood/slum-like area, maybe making use of some of the low-rent housing and some of the new decals.
The new mods and assets are really adding some much needed life and diversity to this game. Loving the aesthetics of the new area.
It looks like the modding community will be the savior of CS2 in the end. It’s just a shame everything had to play out the way it did
Hei! Glad that you use my Local Hospital Asset!) Nice variant of upgrade!)
John Barlow Lane (or as the hip people calm it: JB Lane). Maybe John Barlow was an important person in Riverview history lol. Anyway AMAZING build. I can’t wait to see more gentrification
Those were some 10/10 tunes to build to
You could maybe change some of the roads to one way roads to help with traffic
It's offical, you are the "King of Detail". I've watched people playing cities skylines for a few years including Biffa, and Cityplannerplays and I must say you are in another league. I wish I had 1/10 of your detailing talent. 😊
It's so cool how a few of the decals add a ton of character to the hospital
Quick tip to get rid of trees that spawn when using move it; I’ve found that if you use the better bulldozer mod, toggling on/off one of the tool modes (I think network or something on right side) will automatically remove any trees that spawned on roads :) no more having to manually delete!
I agree with some other folks here, don’t drain the river! Could definitely have some work done to it though, such as another water source for better flow, riverside park and multi use path, and maybe an area for restaurants and tourism
Now this is next level! Awesome work!
You mentioned in an episode before that you don't like very much metro because they are underground and you can not really interact with it or see people/trains moving. So my suggestion: dry up the custom river and put a ground level metro into the dry trench. Something like a metro backbone of the city. And off of that, make smaller branches going into underground to connect other parts of the city with the metro.
I know that it is not my decision to take, but I think draining the river would just make the city look too big and packed, and having some natural guidelines to work with is always great. Also, it has been a part of the city for so long now that removing it seems somewhat unrealistic.
So cool video ! The neigborhood look awesome ! And the new mods and decals look very good ! Plus the music was specialy very nice in this episode.
Revamping wealthy neighborhoods?
Doest sound like America to me😂
Finally caught up to the series, just finished binge watching this entire series… possibly a few others…😭😭
I’ll make sure to leave some comments and feedback! Thanks for the entertainment! :)
So great. I'm addicted. Need one of these 60 min videos every day 😅 Best CS2 content out there.
Instead of getting rid of the river, you should create a riverwalk. Take inspiration from Chicago and San Antonio. I think it would be a challenging project, but would be a defining feature of Riverview.
Theres a place in Nashville TN called Printer's Alley where there are a ton of hipster-ish stores, would either be a cool idea for a build in Northside, or just a cool namesake for Briarwood Ave.
This is insanely good! Like it a lot mate and good to see you back😊
Givin in my attendance to show how eagerly I was waiting for your video!!
I think you should add cross walks in the new Northside, in a busy hipster area like this, I would assume the nightlife would be prevalent, having crosswalks to allow people to travel the Neiborhood more freely would make sense.
Thank you for explaining what you’re doing
You seem to really be enjoying playing CS2. Nice to see this...
Don't drain the river, I think it looks very nice. Maybe try some mod that allows you to put water by yourself. This coudl help and you can name the Briarwood street by Borys Avenue
yeah if you decide the remove the river then a proper highway system circling around the "inner city areas" would be nice... with a mix of parks, and free time activities... mix it up, as well as possibly expanding the housing and shops just a bit (if you have enough space)
Genuinely amazing, and considering we don’t even have custom assets yet it’s doubly amazing. Good content king 👑
*I think you should to try drain the river and make a network of small lakes around which parks and a shopping area will be located.*
Make that river a highway. Proper America.
I feel like there is so much amazing stuff in CS2 that is like 80% done. for example the custom parking and stuff like that. It doesn't feel like the modders had to make it from scratch, just add UI elements and plug the underlying functionality that already exists into the game.
Nice finish to the Northside neighbourhood, also, name the street Northside Avenue to make it more american!
Let the added river be, it's a great "asset". You could use it as a park, and you could put a rised two way highway for a part of it, it's something that could exist.
And maybe do a "big dig" (boston's big dig) on some highways or just part of highways
City is looking so good! 💜💜
Thank you Shelley!
would look cool if u made the river into one long park, with bike paths from the one end to the other. would probably alleviate the existing traffic and make the surrounding neighbourhoods wealthier
The Mixed Office Row Zone mod can increase the number of homeless people in the city! I lost over 100k residents before discovering where the bug was coming from. If you start losing population, now you know the cause.
Above ground metro where the river is! keep up the great work, love the city
Love northside! if you do drain the river, make it into a park that shows that it used to be a river! sort of a minigreen belt
In my town we have a rather well travelled graffiti alley. I think this would be perfect for Northside!
If you do end up draining the secondary rvier maybe you could leave a small canal behind. It would be cool and you could build a sort of "waterside" district alongside it.
Edit: Oh and maybe you could use some of that free space to add a train line there!
I think you should keep the river and try to fit some water sources (available with a mod) because it makes the city look a bit more interesting
I love the look of the local hospital. I hope they add smaller train stations soon!
Got an idea if you do drain the water in the man made river it could make a nice scenic railroad with tree's, bushes and even rocks there could even be an old style looking train station.
I got so used to watching your Coniferia series while you were away that opening this video today it seems weird to see you in CS2 ':D
Great video!
The city is starting to remind me of Montreal. Northside is kinda hip like la plateau.
I think maybe block the river and let it be a lake. Can be a big nature reserve. Have homes and mixed use in as well
Drain it and make it a major greenway w/ park space, bike/hike trails, etc. Could be a backbone for other trail networks to tie in to.
Mr infrastructurist.... trees in the middle of a small road median... and dumpsters on a dirt patch.... Just a few pioints of interest, tho love the city and series :)
Very nice city as usual. This game seems to be finally getting its $%^T together.
Regarding the proposal to drain the river cutting through: Instead of terraforming it back and filling it in, why not create a sunken park? It would fit perfectly with the hipster Northside area and could be an excellent renaturation project. This would increase house prices even more, making it even harder for us millennials to afford living in desirable areas, but at least we could stroll through a nice park 😅 I like the idea because it maintains the "natural" barrier created by the river. Instead of filling the area with buildings, you would repurpose the space nature left behind by incorporating new natural elements 😊
Just made my day with your new upload
I think if you build a dam at the entrance to the custom river then the main river water levels should fix themselves
I wish mixed zoning was given its own demand meter, would actually give it more of a purpose instead of filling basic medium density and commercial demands
That casual shade of "you're within walking distance of downtown but this is America so people don't walk" 😂
I hate that it's true. Blame the suburban sprawl.
"Let the Detailing Begin" - Average CS1 player right now😅❤
Apparently, the upcoming patch is gonna deal in part with the water physics, so maybe that's gonna change how water flows in the canal
In general, I think it's super cool to have a secondary smaller canal, like it is now, but maybe you could develop it a bit more, as in, have more little piers sticking into it and/or bridges, plants growing, quays in certain places, all aided and looking run down with the help of all the new decals and surfaces. Post lowish-density industrial even.
Maybe the water situation could be helped as it is right now by lifting the bottom up a bit and/or using the Water Features mod to literally just create a source somewhere along it. That sometimes helps.
I don't think draining the river would be a good idea. I personally really like the way it looks and divides the city. If you are concerned about water levels, you can always use water spawners with mods and help the water levels a bit.
Wow! Northside just became my favorite neighborhood in the city! I like the idea of draining the custom river and using that space to create the city's first metro line.
I think you should keep the river but maybe add some parks or a walking/bike trail along it
Enjoyable, thank you
Keep some parts of the river, but then the city could bury parts to create more usable land for higher level transit/parkland
There are a lot of really great content creators doing their best within the framework of CS:2. CPP, Biffa, Two Dollars Twenty, Keralis, Kibitz, FewCandy, RCE, and Sanctum Gamer. You are the only one who can truly create something so damn realistic and inspiring out of this unfortunately very flawed game (and I have 1100hrs so far). I wish I could be half as successful as you are at city building. I want to love this game, but what killed it for me (until it is properly fixed) is the econ simulation. Maybe the upcoming June patch will make it worth diving back into.
I love this series!!!
Damn that neighborhood really got butchered. I vote filling in the river and doing a sunken highway ringroad, especially now that the northside highway got downgraded into an avenue.
An idea for the river: You could make a costum park all through there like a green bend. Sth similar to the English Garden in Munich
Yes, could be cool to remove your custom river and create some very modern "green city" developement instead.
Hey, amazing video, but you should give back right-turns to the major intersection in the middle. Before you had sliplanes there, but now them removed, cars can't turn right and will use the small alleys instead - please fix it!
Reminding me a lot of Lincoln park in Chicago!
„It‘s such a schmoll thing!“ - Infrastructurist
Great build.
Do not dare remove that river! Maybe just a tidy up instead. It gives so much character to your city's layout.
the river is great, don't remove it, play with water features mod to add more flow
It's a weird aesthetic at the hospital. Partly run-down and old, but with perfectly manicured trees and bushes that don't seem to be all that old. So they have a massive landscaping budget, but no money to fix the parking lot damage? It makes more sense to mix those things throughout the city, since no one entity owns it all. One lot being run down while another is newly renovated is not uncommon. But the hospital should be a bit more consistent.
IDK, the hospital I work at is a healthy mixture of old and new. Hell, the unit I work on is mostly new, while other floors are old and super outdated. Funnily enough, there's a random door inside the stairwell that leads to someone's office. 🫠
And, hospital admins putting forth money to fix parking lots - when they could line their pockets instead? Nahhhh.
(I'm definitely not sour at American hospital corporations 👀)
Please don't destroy the river. Lovely neighbordhood btw
Looks a bit like Montreal ! I love it ;)
I just wanna see more. Hope to see another expressway north to south and east to west. And the express tram line through love island connecting both Riverviews.
Look at some of the park proposals for the LA River. Yours isn’t a concrete canal like the LA River but maybe there are some cool park ideas there
Hickory Lane for the new avenue!
