- Pearce Simpson Bengal SSB CB Radio Base Station. #cb #cbradio First time being powered up in over 20 years. The Bengal SSB was a low frills 23 channel AM/SSB Base Station that was a top performing radio and was produced around 1974-1975 and could be had for the low low price of $399.95.
UPDATE..................................................................................
When I was filming this video I couldn't remember what radio I owned that this radio reminded of... Well after some digging I found the radio. It was a REGENCY CR 142. Check out this video.
Don't mind the crappy video as I filmed this many years ago at the RV Park. I gave the radio away in 2019 when we moved to SLC. I miss it as that was a good receiver and made many contacts on the Bowl using the + 2
• Regency CR 142 AM CB B...
Beautiful looking radio
Paired with a D-104, this radio was the bomb. Nothing sounded like a Pearce Simpson\D-104 combo.
Cheers🎉
This radio is similar to the Regency CR-123 and a few others.
The crystal mixing scheme is similar to the standard 37/10 but instead of using four crystals each for transmit and receive it uses the main six crystals, four for AM/USB, and four for LSB. While you're inside pull the crystals out of the sockets and reinstall them. Don't be surprised if you uncover a cold solder joint or two along the way.
I did that on the JCP Pinto. I worked the plug that went from the crystal board assy to the main PC, everything worked again as it should.
I took the plug back off and cleaned the pins with a Q-Tip dipped in some De-Ox Gold and re installed.
That's a sweet rig and Yes I Love the Woodgrain front! Add a Turner Plus2 to that! 73's!
Great old radio! Please do the VFO mod to it, That way I can copy your work, and add a VFO to my Bengal. Take care Mike, 73's
I will try.
There is a PAL transceiver that has the VFO built-in that uses the same main board and power supply.
awesome radio was very much in the demand in the 70s
I have a PS base like my uncle used in Casper Wyoming. Don’t you love the three pin mic connector?🤣
Nice! My first radio was the Realistic Navaho base. 23 channel.
I just picked up a sweet Navaho base over the weekend! TRC-431...gotta love those old radios!
@@UDX-357 Nice!!!
Yes Sir, nice radio.
The Regency base stations were like the Pierce Simpson’s but had a black & chrome face. My uncle had one.
Nice radio! Betting it was used for a few years then packed away forever. Usually what happens to CB radio when the fad died down.
That’s a classic 😎
It's a cool looking radio. I don't remember seeing many of the vintage radios that I see on your channel and some of the other channels. I'm wondering if some of them were more popular or maybe only sold on the east or west coast??? I remember seeing lots of cobra, uniden, president, sbe, radio shack, Lafayette, courier, sears, jc penny's, and maybe a few others here and there. But I am seeing a whole bunch more that I never knew about. Some of them are really good looking radios.
Pearce Simpson never had the benefit of a mass marketing agent. You could find Midland radios at the hardware store but Pearce Simpsons were only sold by a few CB shops and entrepreneurs selling them out of the garage or basement. One such guy was a Pace and Courier seller and he walked away from it when both companies began having Olson Electronics sell their radios.
It's been hot today here in tn. the skip is back in Tn yesterday i was getting southern CAL and Northern CAL.
Looks like it's been taking good care of. Was the other radio you were thinking about a Robyn? It kind of reminds me of some of the old Robyn bases.
The other radio was a Regency AM base
My wife has one of those with a Siltronix model 90 vfo hooked to it. I need to fire it up. I met her talking to her on that radio😂
Yes you need to fire up that old rig for sure. I met my wife and friend of 42Years on the CB as well, she would sit in the driveway talking on her dad's CB.... Cheers
I'm fixing to do this with a Titan II soon.
That was my Tram you got from Darrin
The Titan not the D -201........
nice audio.
I just found a spotless Simba for $120! Should I buy it?
If it works, just remember it is only 23 channels.
