  • The lower cylinder timing belt area is not sealed. It needs air to cool down the belt, and the air opening can suck dirt sometimes. In this video, I will show how to remove the cover, and inspect and clean the timing belt area. Overall, really simple maintenance job.

    Great one 👍
How often, average, do you think it should be done? Thanks

Based on it not being that dirty after riding a lot in the dust, I would say not often, but on the other side, it's super easy...

What about the timing belt for the other cylinder, does it also need cleaning?

i have seen some of these very very dusty dirt inside the timing belt area...Not sure i would recommend one for actual highland dessert riding.

I live in California and ride mostly desert. I recently opened this again after 2000 miles of dirt, dusty roads and it was still clean - just a bit of dust all around.
