I got mine just based on a comment of yours, so it’s great to see that the video review backs it up. I’m loving mine, it’s got so much personality and is much more bike than I need!
Yeah, really is an incredibly capable bike. I wasn’t sure about doing a long term review but glad I have; my initial impression video was just that and I didn’t want to talk about how it rode as I just hadn’t been on it enough at that point, so would have been irrelevant really. Have you had any issues with your rear axle loosening off or is it just me? It’s definitely on my list for replacing soon.
@@tombailey3807 you say that but from experience of riding with my 8 year old and her friends, you are forever having to perform emergency stops as they haul on the brakes right in front of you to look at a duck/feather/stone/dog muck. Constant panic braking could loosen it off 😄
I’m in the US and I think I’ve commented on your buddy’s channel, with returned comments, about me having a 2016 p7 rs. Just got Hayes dominion brakes put on. Not much luck with finding replacement decals/orange chain stay protector and the like here in the States. The drawback with owning a UK bike in the land of Kona’s and Santa Cruz’s by really having a blast on it nonetheless. Cheers.
Nice one mate. Orange did have a US importer at one time, pretty sure that’s how Seth got his P7; guess it’s no more? I would get in touch with Orange directly, pretty sure they’ll be able to help as their after market service is pretty good 👍
For me I think what this video captures amazingly well is just how fantastic late summer evening rides are. I know it's about the bike but im so dustracted by the atmosphere, lighting and scenes. This video should convince anyone of the joys of mountain biking...unless they've no soul. The bike is lovely btw, but you didn't need me to tell you that 😂 A great deal of effort involved in this video and its come out a proper winner. Nice one mate!
Thanks mate, really enjoyed filming this one and a big part of it was because of how beautiful an evening was, as well as the surroundings. I can see how me prattling on about a bicycle that you already know I love could be distracting 😂

You convinced me on the HT, amd then the Blue Pig arrived. GR8 video mate, and I love your presenting style. It's kinda like a Guy Kesteven style, but on less speed, if you know what I mean, lol. Course, I'm jesting, I love Guy Kes's stuff! Anyway, glad you like the bike.
I have been considering this bike i have nukeproof scout 2019 model which seems like jack of all trades bike. I do alot of cycling around the country side. Some green & blue trails every now and then would this bike be suitable for that? Or it to hardcore...
It’s not so much that it’s hardcore, more that it’s just really capable if the going gets rough. My other hardtail (couldn’t bring myself to sell it when I got this) is a Pinnacle Iroko with 120mm forks and is noticeably lighter and as such, would probably be better suited to XC rides although if the trail got rocky and technical, I’d rather be on it despite the weight penalty. It’s an incredible bike but I think you are right to think about the kind of riding you do and what’s best suited to it. I reckon I would rather be under-biked 10% of the time rather than over-biked 90%, if that makes sense
Yeah, they’re a far cry from the hardtails of yesteryear, where you really would think twice about taking them on certain rides because you knew they’d hinder you too much if everyone else was on full sussers; nobody wants to be ‘that guy’ who turns up on the inappropriate bike and holds everyone up. Nowadays though, that number of rides has diminished and it’s due to how capable they are.
@Stopadoodledoo 100% mate. So many places where I wouldn't think twice about riding my Scout, bit with one or two exceptions like you say. They're just SO much fun!
@@MTB_Trekker may sound daft but one of the biggest improvements to riding hardtails is tubeless tyres. Used to always get pinch flats on hardtails before tubeless came along; I am still taking at least two tubes out with me in hardtail rides, as old habits die hard 😂
Yeah, I'm much the same although it does kind of depend where I'm going. For most places, theP7 is more fun, even though it's not as quick. To be honest, the bike I ride the most is my old Pinnacle Iroko but that's only because I use it to get around town on and ride in the local woods.
I had the same issue with the axle on my Crush. Torquing it to the written on it helps a lot. I was just doing it up until it felt about right and that was a bit under the amount it needed. I've now torqued it up and used a bolt marker to put a line on the hanger part and axel so I can torque it up without getting the proper tools out. Drop of thread lock doesn't hurt either if you don't need to take the wheel out all of the time. Aside from that, ~150mm travel long/slack hardtail has to be the best value for money to get into mtb. Plenty enough for farting around on sneaky trails, possible to pedal to get to and from rides or go shopping, not so expensive your wife will divorce you if it gets broken/pinched.
I had similar issues with the rear axle on my Pinnacle although that was a QR ‘maxle’ type one, replaced it with a Allen key Maxle and never had any issues at all, so may splash out on one for the P7. Disconcerting though isn’t it, when you notice that it’s loosened off and you have been riding it for god knows how long with it like that! They really are capable and for the money, I would say they are a much better option than a full susser for the same price. Hardtails are odd though as they are way more fun than they would appear to be.

I rode 40km one day with the gears clacking a bit thinking I'd need to adjust the derailleur when I got home only to notice the axel was only half way threaded in. I've also had rotor bolts start backing out and only noticed when brakes started to make a click when applied because the rotor was shifting. So now I mark bolts with a bright pink bolt marker and it's pretty easy to quickly scan both sides of the bike before going out to make sure that there aren't any pink lines out of place. Also good for when you take your bike apart to go somewhere, only slap it together when you get home and forget to do the bolts up properly again. 😅

I can say with total conviction that I would never do Dollywaggon on a hardtail, probably only do Seldom Seen on it if I had no choice (e.g. Alpine was broken) but to be fair to the P7, I really enjoyed riding it in our Lakes ride the other week. Done some of those trails on a Santa Cruz Chameleon with square section chainstays a few years ago and the difference between that and the P7 is night and day!
If you have the Rockshox 35 on your crush treat yourself to a pair of lyrik ultimates (the 2023 version should be cheap soon with the 2025 ones coming out). The 35's are fine but after riding with zebs on my Alpine it didn't feel as nice I replaced them because they started getting noisy and getting them serviced wouldn't be too far off a new pair. After putting lyriks on it felt so good to ride to the point that I started taking it out instead of the alpine.
@@Stopadoodledoo I wanted to try Zebs on the crush because they were about the same price but you can't get zebs with a 37mm offset that the crush is specced for (doubt matters much). M sized crush with 35s was actually heavier than my L sized Alpine 😄
