In 1985, at the age of 13, I played my brother's 'Stop Making Sense" record over and over again. Talking heads and The Smiths records really marked the beginning of my headlong passion for music outside of the 'Hot 100'. Indeed, those formative years are important to molding one's tastes.

Really enjoyed that. Had the same experience with my kids. The first record I played them was ‘Hit the lights’. I thought I was doing really well until I saw them doing through my precious vinyl looking for Taylor Swift. Nonetheless, enjoyed your vid.

Some years ago I could've booked Sleaford Mods for about £400 for a nationally recognised festival. However, my (effective) line manager - not the official title but basically the same thing - told me I couldn't have the extra cash. I told them they were mad and were missing out on a two blokes who would soon be huge. That festival (sadly) no longer exists but my eye for talent is still bloody brilliant - one of the few things I'm genuinely confident in. But fuck it, life's good and all the better for quitting promotion. Congratulations, Sleaford Mods, you've done very, very well.

In hindsight maybe a mistake, I got a great musical education off Jimmy Saville's Old Record Club. :)
That's nothing, Jimmy taught me how to milk a cow whilst I was blindfolded when I were a lad. He was really into it and made appreciative grunts and groans whilst tutoring me. I always seemed to end up with cream all over my hands for some reason, and I never saw the cow, or the milk come to think of it, but he paid me £10 for doing it.

I found out about Sleaford Mods through Amoeba's What's In My Bag. Jason is cool by me despite some of his politics; not on board w/the male species hatred; just like I'm not on board w/the female species hatred; we're all just people. I know though if there wasn't bitter w/the better in this life we'd have no Sleaford Mods. I think I have an old "I Feel Love" 45 back in a box in my spare room. What a great song, the Stairway To Heaven of disco.

It must be the age difference, but both Talking Heads and Donna Summer were hard to avoid when they came out, as they were all over the radio and TOTP. Early 80s you could see Talking Heads but also Laurie Anderson, PiL, Kraftwerk, Grandmaster Flash, Joy Division and many other experimental acts. Every generation looks back to discover musical gems, like Jason and his family are doing. My generation looked back to the experimental stuff from the sixties, the roots of punk and new wave and soul and funk are there and all music since Sgt Pepper can be called ‘psychedelic’. This came out overtly in the later 80s with acid house, Prince, the La’s and Madchester stuff.
I wonder what Jason’s daughter will be sharing with her own children? “Here’s a classic from 2019” seems unlikely . . . .

I bought once in a lifetime in Boots, they used to sell records. Basically because the girl on the counter was mega fit. Pulled her on a night out too. She wasn't impressed with my choice though.
I think that probably proves: the fitter they were, the shitter their taste in music? The cooler, but often less physically attractive girls, always had better and more interesting tastes. In my experience, anyway.

Checked out the Prettiots It's messing about, not music. Summer, glorious. You missed the Talking Heads, as a teenager, how is that possible? - one of the best pop bands of the 20th century.

Ngl I hear SM and I honestly was petrified how he was gonna be in this, very brash and punk and almost just like tied up in Nottz without the backing track...so to hear him so soft and well spoken talking about his daughter was fantastic! Shows so much more to him then the performer and so much more heart
