This is amazing. I have a question, is this also applicable if we only have 1 central file where user updates a worksheet data on it. Then we take a snapshot of that file only every Monday?
For example: Week 1 - there is only 10 rows Week 2 - there is additional 10 rows - so data for week 2 will be the additional rows and the week 1 data Week 3 - the data from week 1 and 2 plus the new rows the rows in the file is just incrementing.. is it possible to have this kind of approach
@@mardithpascua8112 in theory absolutely. you just need to set up an automated trigger (instead of a button) to take a snapshot BEFORE new data comes in.
Amazing Video. I have a question : If i have differents filters impacting in my table and I want to export it , the csv file will be export with this filters. But if I change the filters, the table will be export with old filters , you know how i can export the table according with the filters that I choosing in the moment ?
If you constantly need to change filters I’d explore different options. Without knowing the details I’d suggest looking into a paginated report - or more robust solutions from the DW side.
Thanks Roland, that's amazing if my thinking is right, I'm pretty sure I could use this to take a snap shot of our DB tables that don't hold history, and just like that PBI will create a historical db. Tim
Hey Tim, Absolutely right! If you want to take full snapshots at the transaction level it might not be the best solution. However, if you are happy to keep it at a relatively high level (some aggregation) it should be excellent.
Absolutely! If it is just a total I’d suggest getting that total out of the table and put it into a card. Then generate the code following the video and it should be super easy :)
@@BILingualAnalytics I did it, works perfectly, I have the data coming from SQL, then totaling in a PowerBI visual, then automating via power automate from that visual to a SharePoint list, then back into the PowerBI dashboard!
@@BILingualAnalytics I’ve tried to use this feature in power automate, but I couldn’t … there’s any advice ? It’s possible that the license version it’s not the same ?
@BILingualAnalytics I have scoured the interwebs for a solution in Power BI to track daily data for an agile team, think user stories with status changes daily, in order to build CFD charts, compare planned and completed points over sprints etc, and I can't find anything that seems even close to being able to capture daily data changes into one data set that can easily be stored and queried 😭😭 Could this be a solution for tracking daily data changes to the status of a set of user stories....??
Potentially could be. However, if the requirement is to track it daily and have a LOTS of data I'd probably look into a proper data warehouse solution. If you only have a handful of datapoints to "track" this will be fine.

Great video. When's the follow up part 2 due?
Today, at 6pm Sydney time - come back in 3hrs :)

Is there a way the snapshot will be created automatically without using the click of a button?
Absolutely - but you need some sort of a trigger. You can set up one based on a time/date for example.
Will you make a video for this as well?@@BILingualAnalytics
