This was endorsed by Veterans for Peace U.K., a group that was founded by veterans suffering from PTSD. What a brilliant way to convey their message - get a fantastic comedy actor to create an action man movie about the pain they suffer. Man, this is why I love U.K. humour.

This style of satire is pretty unique to the U.K. stemming all the way back to Python in the 70’s, through to Chris Morris (Day Today, Brass Eye, etc) in the 90’s. Because their "valiant/patriotic/brave efforts" they says.. But it's different if maybe they died in some kind of not that famous event.
I'd say the one I feel sorry for most is PTSD Action Man, lonely, living in a dirty house but just unable to clean up because he's so preoccupied with the memories, and just broken with drugs and fear. No one should have to live like that...

When I was a kid, in the early 90's, my dad offered me an Action Man for Christmas. We were playing with it together, and sudenly, one of the figure's leg broke. Daddy tried to fix the missing leg, but with no great results. He later told me "He is a great invalid of war, treat him with respect, now." This commercial brings up so much memories... I remember when the first xmen movie came out, i had the prof x toy. The legs were made of hollow plastic, and the joints were intentionally loose, making it impossible to stand. Legs just flailed around while the head & arms were fully posable. Hilarious

I remember my father who’d been in World War 2 as a motorcycle despatch rider refused to play with my action man dolls with me. He just saw it as a military recruitment vehicle and he was soo right.

And amazingly there were still viewers who didn't get the satire in ST, whereas this uses the same tropes as the kids squashing roaches while Insane Mom cackles and applauds, yet the satirical tone is unequivocal. Some dopey folk watched that movie, along with the rest of us.

From almost getting his head blown off by a Vietcong sniper, to watching his best friend get turned into a spray of red mist during a mortar attack. He was lucky enough to come away alive and only with minor injuries that didn't disable him physically. However, his mind remained haunted by the stuff he had seen. He had very severe PTSD, and depression, following his time after the war, but now, I'm thankful he's not suffering anymore. He passed away from kidney failure, at the age of 74. R.I.P. GySgt Glenn Lorenzo Davis. 5/24/1948 - 10/31/2019.

The problem is that civilians and pretty much everybody believes that the military to be anything more than a job. That's all it is. You're only part of the military for however long your contract is supposed to last. Beyond that they don't owe you anything aside from your pension. Those are the facts. If you work for Target for 4 years, you're not gonna expect Target to foot your medical bills 3 years after you've left the company. The military is the exact same way. Movies and media romanticize the military as if its this higher calling entity, but it's really not. It's just like any other organization/business. You're just a cog in a giant machine. A very replaceable cog. It's honestly your job as a vet to not bite off more than you can chew and to know your limits before you break them.
I used to work a trucking company & there was a driver there that told me he had movement only once,every 2 weeks,& when it was time,it was @ that very moment.He had been in the desert & had contracted some kind of illness/reaction while there.I can't recall how we got on subject or if he told any1 else there.The struggle is real...f'ing nasty!

I couldn't stop thinking about how brilliant this callout of the military is. you managed to set me into a state of moral outrage, drew me in to look more into this, and then immediately made me understand that this is the same outrage i SHOULD be feeling every single day if i were to make time to think about our veterans and soldiers.

For a lot of them it could be an opportunity to improve their lives and get them off a bad path they might take in a desperate attempt to escape poverty and shit. @@cascadianrangers728 My grandpa was Marine Recon in Vietnam. During his time, he saw many things that no man should. From almost getting his head blown off by a Vietcong sniper, to watching his best friend get turned into a spray of red mist during a mortar attack. He was lucky enough to come away alive and only with minor injuries that didn't disable him physically. However, his mind remained haunted by the stuff he had seen. He had very severe PTSD, and depression, following his time after the war, but now, I'm thankful he's not suffering anymore.
He passed away from kidney failure, at the age of 74.
R.I.P. GySgt Glenn Lorenzo Davis.

I feel like the first step would be to....stop making so many veterans.
The problem is that civilians and pretty much everybody believes that the military to be anything more than a job. That's all it is. You're only part of the military for however long your contract is supposed to last. Beyond that they don't owe you anything aside from your pension. Those are the facts. If you work for Target for 4 years, you're not gonna expect Target to foot your medical bills 3 years after you've left the company. The military is the exact same way. Movies and media romanticize the military as if its this higher calling entity, but it's really not. It's just like any other organization/business. You're just a cog in a giant machine. A very replaceable cog. It's honestly your job as a vet to not bite off more than you can chew and to know your limits before you break them.

@@AFarmerCalledChicken Trying to discourage kids/teenagers from joining the military is actually kind of a shitty thing to do. For a lot of them it could be an opportunity to improve their lives and get them off a bad path they might take in a desperate attempt to escape poverty and shit. A better goal would be to educate them on why it's necessary to treat service in the military as a proper career and take full advantage of the opportunities and benefits it provides rather than just going in to shoot guns and shit.
