Yeah, I completely forgot about that when watching this video, but during my editing, I realized that was a callback to the normal battle royale. This is why I should start binge watching series, so I don't forget things lol.
Actually these entries are only that messed up to the pokemon sun/moon and ultra sun/moon games, beacause one of the lead devs hated mega evolution so they made these entries to "punish" players for liking them, which in my opinion is just selfish.
To also clarify, Sun and Moon and Ultra Sun Ultra Moon are the only games that actually give Megas entries at all as the Gen 6 games didn’t include entries for them and Megas were cut in Gen 8. The reason Mega Evolution was disliked by members of the dev teams was simply how they were implemented and what they represented for the series. At its core, Megas were supposed to give old bad and forgotten Pokémon new chances to shine in sparkly new forms made specifically for battling, like Mawile going from complete trash to a notable threat. This is also why more old Gen Pokémon got Megas, hence why we got one Gen 6 Mega in Diancie who is a Mythical and only one Gen 5 Mega in Audino. The concept for Megas was awesome but then it took a turn for the worse. They had to give already popular and or strong Pokémon Megas to boost sales because obviously promoting this new awesome gimmick of “Another evolution” would require your heavy hitter Pokemon to be affected as well and not just the C Tier forgettable ones. This however caused a dis-balance in the numbers as now fans were clamouring over their favourites like Gengar, Lucario, and Tyranitar while mostly sidelining the smaller guys like Ampharos, Sableye, and Altaria, the Pokémon that Megas were made to help in the first place. This got even worse during XY’s development as when they revealed the Kanto starters Megas and Mewtwo’s mega, there was extreme backlash. People were upset that Ampharos became a Dragon type but Charizard didn’t and everyone was pointing and shouting at Mewtwo for looking freaky and alien and different. This resulted in the design team panic designing Mega Charizard X as Y’s counterpart with all of the current popular art trends like black and blue colour scheme, red eyes, feathers, spikes, blue fire, etc. Later we then got Mega Mewtwo X’s reveal simply being Mewtwo but bulkier and more suited to melee combat, it’s just Mewtwo but muscles. These two Megas were made retroactively to appease the fan’s anger, and were specifically put in Pokémon X because they KNEW Pokémon X would sell more than Pokémon Y, simply because the box art legendary Xerneas was Blue and X is a more recognizable letter than Y brand wise. They specifically dropped their fan service Megas in the game that would already attract more consumers, which was smart, but also really depressing since the now Charizard Y and Mewtwo Y were being sidelined. Mega Charizard Y didn’t even appear in the anime properly until Leon used it once randomly in the Gen 8 anime, two tens after its debut. The problem only got worse in ORAS, Omega Ruby Alpha Sapphire, because the design team making Megas legit began struggling. They already WERE struggling in XY. Making a Mega for an old single stage Pokémon worked because you had enough to build off of and make something new, this is why Pinsir, Mawile, and Sableye worked super well. Two stage Pokémon too like Lopunny and Camerupt. The problem came from forcing three stage Pokémon to mega evolve. The reasons is a bit more nuanced. Pokémon treats each evolution stage in a line as a separate character. Usually two Pokémon in the same line aren’t literally visually the same Pokémon but older, there’s differences. Charmander and Charmeleon look related but one is red and has a notable different attitude, it has its own personality distinct from Charmander. This is the same logic for many second stage starters, they’re quirky and different. Look at Wooper and Quagsire, completely different design wise but you can still tell they’re related. Wigglytuff isn’t simply a bigger Jigglypuff, it gains some more rabbit features. There’s nuance (usually.) Megas got weird because you have to take a three stage line, like Tyranitar, which already has an established story built into the stages and somehow build off of it. How can you improve something that doesn’t need to be improved? You I can’t really, so many Megas simply opted to make the Pokémon look as scary and monstrous as possible, spikes, sticky outy bits, angry facial expressions, extra bits and pieces to make the Pokémon’s silhouette bigger and scarier. Making a satisfactory Mega with just these steps, is really boring and tedious and hard for the designers. We were going to get a Mega Flygon but they couldn’t find a suitable design that respected the original properly. This nature of mega evolution was too much pressure to apply when designing them that many of them ended up looking weird or disappointing which is bad considering the previous Charizard Mewtwo debacle. This is precisely why the four Pseudo Legendary Megas feel so simple. Tyranitar got spikier, Metagross got spikier and gained four more legs, Garchomp now has sickle arms and is spikier and more rugged, Salamence becomes a crescent and has a vest to tuck its legs in but then that’s it. Making more Megas after ORAS wouldn’t have been sustainable as demand for more already strong, complete, popular Pokémon to receive them would only grow which would continue stressing out the design team and result in a slow powecreep collapse. The original intention of old bad Pokémon getting new forms to be popular like the others was becoming null because the old popular Pokémon were also getting Megas and would continue to outshine them at the thing made for them. This also doesn’t bring up the competitive scene, many Megas were either broken strong or not even upgrades for some Pokémon like Garchomp. These things were chaotic in battle and the balance of the metagame was out of shift more than it ever wall especially in Gen 7 with the addition of Z Moves. Megas we’re not sustainable for the series and actively clashed with their ideals on how to make a Pokémon and so they were cut off. Megas we’re then written to be unnatural and usually painful for the Pokémon involved as a quick way to exp,win why they aren’t widespread across all regions. To end it before it became a massive issue later on, and I agree with the decision for now. Until Gen 6 remakes come out, I am A-Ok with Megas staying in the storage box as well as reserving new ones for way later when the new modern design team gets their grip together after Gen 9, cause they’re new and need time to improve and stuff.
The devs of Sun and Moon are the same as X and Y you know ? The entries are messed up because méga évolution is an unnatural pheomenom in Pokémon and make pokemon suffer because of the energy of the méga evolution.
The flying Thunderbolt was Mega Manectric.
There’s actually another Battle Royale sometime in the near future involving all the Starter Pokémon! That’ll be fun.
And you were right! Like the other battle royale videos it was awesome and even more so when watching the explanation of everything.
2:53 this is what happened in the normal Pokémon battle royale video (watched the full vid you saw the explanation already lol)

I was under the impression that Audino was worse than Abomasnow in standard competitive play, at least in singles (though not in the TCG apparently)
3:42 Scizor and Houndoom melt from sustaining their mega form for too long.
What I always liked about these battle royale vids is that most of the Pokémon team up to take on a stronger opponent.
It was gengar, only fully evolved mons can mega evolve
Ahh that makes a lot of sense now. Thank you
Dude, TURN THE CAPTIONS ON! I promise you it makes the videos SIGNIFICANTLY better!
Great review new sub

Why did the devs hate mega evolution? I feel it's a great concept/gimmick.
@@mycupoftea_1 Sorry not all the devs one did not like it and the reason behind it is apperantly that he hates the concept.
