  • Review of Harley Benton HB 35plus semi hollowbody guitar. Proof that guitar manufacturing has reach an expected level of quality. Affordability, Playability, Craftsmanship and Buyers Experience.
    Guitar snobbery has no place in a spirit that wants to play guitar.

    HB are excellent guitars for the price. You have one for every style. Jazz, fussion, rock, you name it. And every single one of them is an incredible amount of bang for your buck. Definitely these instruments are a no brainer. Not only for beginners for whom of course they are amazing value (I´m 58 and I can imagine if I had this back in my day). When I was a kid you only could get very bad imitations of the big names or the originals at unreachable prices. These are also instruments for professionals who don´t want to spend high amounts of money in premium brands and want simply a good reliable instrument for gigging purposes.

      Thanks for your comment Frankie. Harley Benton has changed my views on what guitarists are actually paying for which has less to do with quality/craftsmanship than with branding and marketing. Cheers to being opened minded and explorative. 🤘😎🎸

    I picked up one of these about 7 months ago. I did a lot of investigating through other TH-cam channels to get ideas of what features were available on the "more affordable" options with this style...and settled on the H.B. 35 Plus. Great guitar, but I was a little surprised that mine has a 25" scale length vs the more common 24 3/4" scale length associated with this basic design. Still...I'm really happy with mine. (I chose the Lemon Drop Burst) Great deal! Lower your pickups....

      Thanks for your comment. Similar to you I too had done much investigating through youtube channels before purchasing this guitar. Since my upload of this guitar I’ve lowered my pickup heights. Overall this guitar punches higher than it’s purchase price. None of my guitarist friends can see any faults whatsoever on this guitar. Of course it’s not a Gibson. What it is, is a guitar with incredible value, performance and looks. When a guitar urges you to pick it up, it’s good guitar. Enjoy the Lemon Drop. T. 🤘🏻😎🎸

      @@lovingsguitar "It's not a Gibson"... I've tried many & own a couple. Never again. I've moved on from trying to Love the guitar Brands that my Inspiration has come from and get guitars that feel right in my hands and don't have issues. I own 3 H.B. guitars and I'm very happy with them. I did get one that I very soon sold. I wanted to like it...the RB-612 CS, but found a much better fit for me in a used Eastwood Classic 12. The others are the CST-24 HB in Tortoise Flame & the CST-24-T in Paradise Flame. Both were "B" Stock guitars. I like these better than the PRS SE versions....especially the CST-24-T. I like the neck profile and pickup voicing much better. And they were 1/4 the price. I will be looking at replacing the vibrato bridge on that one, but really, What's not to like?

    Unusual and fun review. Unfortunately, a good, affordable playable guitar like this one was an impossible dream back in the 80s and 90s. I hade some guitars back then, and they were unplayable crap....all of them. 😡 Young kids today are living in the golden age of affordable good guitars....thanks to Harley Benton and many others. 👍

    I can't help feeling that your amp doesn't take too kindly to high input. From your almost frantically dialing the volume down, I think sth like the Boss BD-2 and lowering the gain of your amp might be a good idea. Just my two cents, of course. Otherwise, I liked your playing very much and your conclusion is fair.

      Thank you for listening. The setup i have after booster and tube screamer some times has a JHS MUffuletta fuzz box. I use two AMPs, split from RC10, drum and track loop thru Sunn beta bass head and cab, live amp - Champion100. both spkr cabinets using Shure SM57's. Every session so far has been a new learning experience and then the editing. Thank you for your comment and support.

    I got a red one during the pandemic. I put Hipshot locking tuners on it (really easy for even a guy lacking in gear skills like me), and I put a Bigsby B7 (luthier did!!😂). It is still really resonant. Also a "Custom Made" plate over the old holes. Really great.

    I feel torn for wanting to buy a second HB because I love my SC550+ so much but this guy: ...I now have 22 Harley Bentons..." haha. I guess I can buy 8 more and feel like a reasonable guitar player. "But they're so cheap, I HAD to buy them, I'd be loosing money otherwise".
    Plus free shipping in Europe (also to return) so yeah. I have spent more on pickups than some of these cost. I still can't believe the 550+. 370€, includes a stunning Les Paul, 170€ EMG Fat 55s (best PAFs I have), locking tuners and quality that feels like a big boy brand and cost 2k). Why enrich dealerships when Thomann sells direct from the factory at what would ordinarily be the price a dealer pays for high volume orders. A Harley Benton would be the cost of regular guitars if it was an independent manufacturer, selling to dealers, who sell to guitar stores with all the extra shipping and profit taking at each step. Add 25% name brand premium and voila my SC550 would be 1.5k easily. But Thomann pays cost and labour at the factory, shipping to one warehouse, add their own profit on top and that's it. If we could get a Gibson like this, buy direct from the factory at cost + 20% then a Gibson could be had for 500-700 bucks. Thomann cam have them shipped in big numbers by boat and then it joins their preexisting distribution network, that is already shipping guitars.

      @@lovingsguitar That's cool, I would like a P90 guitar and the Harley Benton Goldtop P90 looks like a great deal at 150€ or so. Even if the pickups aren't that great, lots of people make good affordable P90s. Not the biggest Goldtop fan, I wish they had more P90 guitars but it is a classic look and I'm into Les Pauls and Vs, so a Goldtop would fit the collection. Of course it won't be as goos for that price but still it should hold up well against liwer end Epiphones that cost substantially more. I can really recommend the 550+, the pickups are incredible if you like that vintage tone and the quality is very good. The cheap ones are good I'm sure but the Indonesian made ones are incredible value, usually for that factory you pay 1k for an LTD Les Paul of similar quality so I want to snag up a few more. The quality fretwork alone is worth it because that can cost as much as an entry level HB to have done. Or it's a huge pain to do yourself.

    • @lovingsguitar
      @lovingsguitar  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the comment. As mentioned I’m the happy owner of a HB SC 450 GTP90. The one I own was purchased over two years ago, it did require a little work to get it working flawlessly. The frets required a little leveling then finished fret polishing. The pickups are surprisingly good giving me that P90 sound which I love so much in my Gibson’s. One of the great advantages of acquiring HB’s, is the comfort level of building experience of modifying, maintenance and upgrading guitars at literally no financial stress as opposed to working on a guitar costing 10x more. I eventually hand sanded the heavy gloss top coating to a satin smooth finish without the gloss. Since then it’s made it to several recordings. It still a total solid player and the fixes I put into it has rewarded me with a guitar I honestly enjoy playing. Thanks for your comment. T

    • @221b-l3t
      @221b-l3t 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well ordinarily no one would buy stuff overseas like that, you get it locally and the shipping etc... is included already. Here you are getting basically for cost + Thomann profit + shipping. Normally, say Ibanez, they would pay a factory to make it or build one, then add their profit on top and then sell to a dealer who ships to your country, adds shipping and profit on top and then sells to a guitar store or local online shop, who add shipping and profit on top. So you're still bypassing half the chain. Sucks though most of the world, it's free shipping from 69€. Now US made guitars are cheaper in the US than Europe, that's how it is. And Marshalls cost an arm and a leg in America (SV20H US 1300$, EU: 830€. Not far from twice the cost. Shipping an oversized package transatlantic in less than a week is not nothing. That's air freight for an instrument. You can also buy two guitars and now the shipping is half of what it was. And you can always return and refund. Thomann don't ask questions. You don't like it? Send it back and get a replacement or money back. So there's no risk on your part other than having to bribg it back to the post office but you Americans all have cars don't you? You're still getting a 600€+ instrument for 250 or so with shipping. Otherwise Indio guitars are not bad, they are a bit like the American Harley Benton, Monoprice and Harley Benton share some manufacturing especially for amps. The Harley Benton Tube 15 is basically a Monoprice amp with an EU plug which in turn is an old Laney amp with a US plug haha. And Indio is related to Monoprice. So it's all the same factories on the cheap stuff. The expensive Harley Bentons are made at Cort in Indonesia just like LTD, Ibanez, Cort obviously and many more. The same factory that made my SC550+ makes the LTD Les Pauls too, an not made in Japan Ibanez etc...
