Your voice-over was great. Thank you for your honest opinion of this lower-price guitar. I have a different model from the same brand, I have replaced nut & bridge, and I find it gives me just as much pleasure to play as my "nice" guitars costing more than ten times the price.
Thanks for the kind words 🙏 It's a blessing having all those budget instruments allowing us to be creative! I also own a HB Bass, i am very happy with it!
Thanks for this usefull and pleasant video! I have the HB35+ Lemon Drop myself for 2? years now, did some setting up at the start (no fret leveling). I play it as often as my PRS SE semi SopaBar or my Made In Japan 80s Fernandes Strat clone with bridge HB+Floyd Rose. All bought new at the low end of the price range and very decent instruments. Recently I've added a used (modern) )Danelectro 59XT. Also very decent quality and sound, I might replace it as I am not sure whether I like the very flat fretboard. -About the PUs: they are sold with Roswell PUs and newer ones with the Tesla PUs. For people who are interested to buy, be aware and find out which one you probably would like best. Most seem to like the Roswell best. -You were mentioning considering Fishmans. Did you mean humbuckers or P90s and which would you them consider? I like the Roswells, but I am still curious..And which PUs are in yours now? Also people suggested adding a resistor in the lead that shortens part of the coil to ground for single coil setting to keep more of the volume (like PRS seems to do in some of their SE coil splitts). Would that be a useful suggestion? Or would that change the tone too much? (in a guitar with more accessible electronics I already would have tried myself., but maybe you have some experience ?)
@@cbaten2 mine is still "vanilla" done the set up (after months) but yes, I would swap the Roswells for some Fishman p90s, they are so versatile... As of the resistor trick, it's the first time I am hearing about it, thanks for the suggestion, I might have to check it out!
In the meantime, I purchased the guitar from Thomann (fortunately I live in Germany, so it was here in two days) and I have had it for the weekend. I agree with you that it is well worth the investment. I needed to fix 3 slightly high frets, nothing extreme. After changing the strings (Ernie Ball 46-10), taking the acting down a bit and adjusting the pickups, the guitar sings beautifully. It is a really flexible tool. I particularly like the fact that it offers coil split, and the combination of neck HB and bridge SC is really wonderful. The Bridge PU does clean jazz but also crunchy blues. The bridge HB does searing lead tones. The electronics are quiet. The workmanship is just fine. I could find no defects in the finish or in the binding work. The tuners are ok, the guitar stays in tune and they run smoothly. The top is not AAAA, but it is certainly AA and the lemon color is really great. I have played quite a few guitars in my life, been playing for 50 years, and I think the guitar offers the most value for the money of any I have seen, played or owned, and that includes guitar brands like PRS, Gibson and Fender. I do have to admit that it is my first hollow body guitar, as I had never been very impressed with them in the past. Optically and sonically, this guitar is just a great piece of work. For the vast majority of players, more than enough. So many people spend too much money on guitars because they are fixated on brand names. Most of them should spend that extra money on lessons instead. Only the top 5% require more than this instrument can deliver. Thank you for convincing me to buy this great guitar! @@sonicalmods781
thannks for the kind words 🙏🙏🙏 A cool tip on this to leave the 3 wounded strings (E, A, D) a bit prouder than the high strings, they will worn the nut much faster anyways and the heavier strings will benefit from been just a bit higher without huge impact in playability since they arent used so much in soloing anyways! cheers!
Thank you for the great video and walk through of your setup. I just bought an HB35+ last week as budget option to try out a Semi-hollow guitar and was pleasantly surprised at how good the quality of the finishing and playability out of the box it was for the price. I agree with you that the coil splitting is not usable (unlike my Epiphone Modern LP) but that's what my Strats are for. That being said, I've ordered some Luthier tools to learn how to level frets and polish them (I've only done basic setups on my other guitars) and I'll be using this video of yours and your fret leveling video to guide me through that. Thanks again!
thank you, i have the hb35 plus lemon, seeing how you adjusted the truss rod made me wanna redo mine because i always adjust truss rod with strings on it and never used the tool that you have used to really level them properly
Thanks for the positive feedback! Actually adjusting your truss rod with full string tension is the way to go when you setup your guitar! I adjusted it the way I did for the purposes of fret leveling! If you need more information feel free to ask! I am trying to always answer my comments since they are not that many anyways! Happy 2024!
Kalispera. Your English is flawless. Nice backing tracks too. My only experience is with the Harley Benton kits. I have done 4 so far (2 Strats, 1 Tele, 1 SG) and I have been pleasantly surprised. If you know how to work on the fretboard, then you can get these into decent budget instruments. And they are great platforms to experiment as modding platforms.
Thank you for a really interesting video. Your English and your lutherie are good. Only thing I didn't see was masking off the pick ups when filing the frets so you don't get microscopic bits of fret metal on them. In my neck of the woods, a set-up is around £60.00 - £70.00 and it's worth doing. Thanks again. Excellent stuff.
Okie Dokie.. I will apologize for using the word "Whining" That I don't but; you obviously find offensive. I retract it and replace it with the word "Complaining" What you are doing to this H.B. guitar is what I've done to/for Gibson's, Fenders and many other brands. And I no longer regard the "High Dollar" as highly superior if superior at all.
Hello. I have the same one in the same finish for sure, too. Please can you tell me how high you have the pickups in relation to the first and sixth strings? Thank you.
@@alvarocalero5571hey there! Actually i have replaced the block i measured the pups, but here are some tips to find your own sweet spot! Always start with your "go to" pickup (bridge or neck) keep in mind there's no wrong adjustment, now as long as you play bellow 15th fret without having the "phase effect" you are ok, if you want more brightness, output and compression go higher, if you want more darker sound, more accent and dynamics go lower, after you are happy eith the pickup you use the most adjust the other so it doesn't have a significant difference in the output unless you are doing something totally different with the other pup and you are only using it with a specific rig, or for some other reason you don't mind it been much louder or silent than the other! I hope this helps! Feel free to ask me back if you want something else!

Randal. I totally disagree and think your comment was uncalled for. I didn't perceive anything like snobbery from him. Nor was there any 'whining' to be heard. Just great advice and a practical demonstration. I've ordered an HB35+ so the vid has helped me a lot to show what I might have to improve.

Was that limon oil you used in the fret board?
That's correct, if i feel the fretboard is dry i apply some but i mainly use hard wax on my boards which I applied right after the lemon oil.
