    Before anyone tries to make their own dry ice, be aware that not ALL extinguishers are the carbon dioxide type. Some have other chemicals that can be hazardous or at least very messy... so read that label.

      I'm glad someone is putting this warning out here. Although all certificated (!) fire extinguishers nowadays shouldn't contain any dangerous chemicals (at least not the country I live in) as they've improved them a lot. This is because fire extinguishers will be used near people so the rules have lately changed that the contents of extinguishers should contain safe materials.
      But stay aware as not all countries and thus producers might do this.
      Also make sure you lookup how to hold an fire extinguisher especially those with carbon dioxide. Most of them have a special handle. You don't want to hold the nozzle as it will freeze (even plastic ones) and the cold can permanently damage you hands. Take care! :)

    As I commented a previous video, I purchased some Maldon smoked salt just because you recommended it so highly, and it arrived today. I have to say, it's pretty freaking incredible. It's too expensive to buy regularly (around $7 per 125g), but it was definitely worth a try. I wish it was in a more convenient dispenser instead of just a plastic bag, especially since the grains are so variable; some of them are extremely fine, and some are almost 1cm, and all sizes inbetween. A grinder would be nice to get a more consistent grain size. I'm sure it's much cheaper at a Sainsbury's or something, but I was still glad I was able to try it. I bought 500g, so it will last me for quite a while.
    If anyone else is curious to try the Maldon smoked salt... try it. It's great. Tell em Barry sent you.

    When I was a kid, my parents had a grocery store. So when we were going to the beach for the weekend, my dad would stop at the local icecream factory nd buy icecream to bring, which they wrapped with blocks of dry ice (no electricity where we stayed). So later we would have icecream, then throw the dry ice into the ocean, for a boiling smoke show. It was so much fun every time, but then again, we were pretty easily entertained... ☺️

    Oh... and in some locations here in Canada you can take an empty fire extinguisher to the local fire station and they'll refill it for you. They won't likely refill it every time you want ice cream, but you could at least get it done once and have a possibly useful item to hang in the kitchen.

    Get a slab of dry ice, carve out shapes or a crevasse, and make homemade popsicles by pouring drinks or liquids of choice into the the indent, put a popsicle stick or skewer in while liquid and watch freeze. Flip once or twice, then dip your popsicle into a bowl of cold water to remove excess dry ice and enjoy.

    You could have saved this one for April Fool's Day, Barry! You could have made one video in which you freeze a sizable container of water (not enormous; a large piece you can hold in one hand), and used a towel to dry it off. Treat it as if you are absolutely serious, do a quick swap out, and demonstrate the properties of the actual dry ice in water or something.
    Then wait 24 hours, and upload the real video.
    I do hope you find some sort of fun for the first of April!

    Thats gas is co2. Its not dangerous, and its no different from the fuming smoke that comes off of the co2, in fact, its identical. The reason youre putting it into the pillow case is not to let the gas escape, but to catch the solid co2 powder, rather than spraying it everywhere.

      CO2 is a gas in everyday life, at normal pressure (1 atmosphere, everyday pressure) when cooled will go from gas to solid. Once you have the solid at a higher temperature it will start fuming or sublimating, which means it is going the opposite direction from solid to gas. Liquid CO2 can exist and both melting and boiling of CO2 is possible but only at relatively high pressures (approximately 5 atmospheres). In fact the sublimation of CO2 in normal conditions is pretty much like when we boil water, just that it happens at very low temperatures (and the solid turns to gas)!

    • @89krx
      @89krx 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dry ice does not melt, it sublimates goes from solid to gas. Therefore it is dry.
      This process absorbs energy in the form of heat to occur so technically dry ice is boiling at room temperature. You just saw it boiling.
