I found a storage guide on bgg and everything fits in the box with the fully built bridges no problem and 0 lid lift. I did toss the language manuals I didn't need. This is one of my favorites, although I absolutely house rule the solo mode.😅
Thanks for the review. I always appreciate your take on things. On the dice rolling worker placement comment I'd recommend Creature Comforts as a nice light friendly game that implements that mechanic.
I love this game, (and your review,) however, I have to say that i have never had issues getting this game back into the box neatly with the bridges assembled.
Great review as always. Set up is a bit ‘fiddly’ and it’s a bit annoying how everything moves if you knock it by accident. Lots of bits and cards and meeples and stuff. Appreciate slotted board and player cards would jack the price up.
@@Shelfside , in all seriousness, this is a great review. I don't think people are entirely honest about the mental cost of language independence for anything even slightly complex. I love Agricola, and part of this is that I don't have to decode hieroglyphics to play it. Can you imagine the icons for this? Cattle Stall (M083) Add 2, 4, 6, 8 to the current round. Place 1 animal on each corresponding round space. You choose which animal goes on which space, but all the animals must be different. At the start of these rounds, you can buy the animal for 1 food.
There are some very important differences but White Castle reminded me of Tekhenu! I enjoyed both games a lot and I bought both for different occasions! I an thinking of providing a +1/2 coins bonus for the 2nd player in a 2 player game, I think it can balance the game somehow. Also, I don't know if you have covered the subject but you mentioned thematic euro. What are some euros that felt thematic to you and enjoyed?
I got this for xmas last year. At first I was hesitant since it looked boring in reviews/photos, but then I ended up loving it after just one play. Since you praise the length and number of actions so much I wonder what you think about the expansion adding a fourth action per round. Making it a total of 12.
Great game! I'm curious about the new Matcha expansion that will be releasing soon. It looks interesting but I'm worried it might over complicate an already very smooth experience. We'll see...
@@Shelfside Definitely don't sleep on Chaos Order, I recently got that one and have been a little bit obsessed with it. It takes the brilliant combat wheel system from the OG Dune, blends it with euro elements and asymmetry reminiscent of Gaia Project, and finishes it off with a unique action pricing mechanism.
It feels bad, but I toss the other rulebooks. Zero chance I will use them, and highly unlikely if I sell the game that someone who only knows German is going to reach out and expect those rules still in there. I do wish they would find a way to not include all those.
I actually gotta disagree with you on this one Ashton. Played it last year at Essen. I felt very underwhelmed. In a game like this, the constant changing state of the board means you can never plan your turn in advance. Turns took forever to complete. And this was the start of my disenchantment with Devir Games. After the masterpiece that was Red Cathedral, none of their titles felt good enough for me to own or play more than once.
thanks for sharing! Personally I never felt like the board changed an insane amount to reduce planning, and AP hasn't been too crazy. Perhaps your first play was with 3-4 players and with lots of heavy thinkers? Cheers! -Ashton
It's funny, I thought it would be a 5/10 when I first learned it. It certainly is a lot more shallow than deeper Euros, but the efficiency of enjoyment is so high I still like it. I legit thought I would be done with it after 3 plays, but I was wrong! -Ashton
When your job is to review games 8 games is more then a lot of reviewers put out there. We can't expect them to play 100 games before putting out the review. AND I do know a lot of board gamers that will only play a game 1-2 times because they are constantly buying new games and don't have time to replay games they didn't obsess over on 1st play.

I actually store the dice on the bridges in the box and it fits very easily and save a ton of space from not having the bag of dice elsewhere
Oh that’s actually a great idea, I’ll try that out
I thought this game was just meh. But I hard disagree that CoB dice worker placement! It’s dice action selection.

Great video. I hope you guys review Andromedas Edge!
Actually one of the best value-for-money games out there.
Love Devir's small box euro line; full of bangers. Salton Sea is a standout for its incredible rulebook!
And that brutal combination where your actions are also your money. ❤
@@lukesanwick4840 That's probably my favorite action selection mechanism in any board game!

die (singular), dice (plural) - Seems right
dice (singular), dice (plural) -- OK
die (singular), die (plural) -- My ears are bleeding
hahaha thanks for this. I tend to get them very mixed up :) -Ashton

Heck yeah you did the white castle intro !!
haha, it looks like decent food! -Ashton
What kind of videocamera do you recommend when reviewing boardgames?

best game of 2023 for us (couple) and after the year it stil get to table. looking for Matcha!

Cheers! Yep I’ll have to try exp
I'm still on the fence with this game. But for this price, I might go for it.
i wish it supports more players
so why even keep the other rulebooks??
Have you tried any garphill games games? Would love to know your opinion on those...
Haven't tried them yet! I got chaos order and first light, so hopefully I get to them one day -ashton

No Arcs yet? What the?
Your language rulebook on top, other rulebooks on the bottom or tucked away somewhere else.

deutche spiel pries 3rd placer. not bad.

I always watch your vids, I guess I'm just in a mood to comment today XD

As a counter point - 5/10 for me (solo and 2p). Fun initially but kind of shallow decision space so got old quickly.

Every recent boardgame ever (to me atleast)
Bad rulebooks irk me.
You haven’t tried White Castle???????
didn´t like the casino ad
Is playing a game eight times considered a lot? I've played Puerto Rico a few hundred times. I may need help.
8 times is not a lot. Also hundreds of times is also healthy for you. keep playing what you love :)
