This explains a lot. Mora essentially has the view of grind it the way you want it. We get it started for you!

Very interesting information on the micro bevel. Moras are technically not a true Scandi grind from the factory. The final finishing on the edge puts a micro bevel and is intended for edge durability. This video was so helpful because I've been wondering for sometime about this subject and there were no definitive answer until now. Thanks for posting. Blessings.

I slightly convex the scandi edge using sandpaper on a sanding block with spring clips. It has the softer rubber-like backing.
First thing I did with the Mora Bushcraft Black.
I like the results this way better than with flat stones.
    YMMV.

Well dang, got my Mora and it had a not so micro micro bevel and I worked all day to get it to a true scandi and razor sharp. Now I think I should have just kept the micro bevel and saved myself a lot of work.

This is why after I use the stones I give the knife 5 passes on my crock stick turn box to restore that micro bevel

How do you sharpen the carbon steel Mora Garberg at home to keep the factory micro bevel? What is the angle of the micro bevel for the Garberg?

Yes this is what I would like to know.

About 13 minutes in he points out that you will get the micro bevel through stropping it on leather embedded with compound as the final step.

I'm a knife enthusiast and that got me to get a degree in ChemistryMetallurgy back in the 90's. I'm both a user and a collector and I've worked on a company repairing old and sharpening new knives for many years. I did that at home, for even more years,, before I got that job.
No matter how many custom knives, or Semicustom knives, like the 500$ TRC Mille Cuori , I always end up using Moras and Opinels, more than any other knife... I don;t baby my knives, because of their price tags, no safe queens here. It's just the fact, that those older designs, are WAY better for a user knife, way more practical and of course, the most user friendly knives out there.
That being said I don't like the turn this company took the later years. They changed the designs of the tangs of the knives, making them WAY more easy to break and they know produced the same knives, with the same materials, asking more than 200$ for one... The wood they used is Ash, nothing special there, the steel is the cheapest and the softest they make and it's recycled. So, nothing changed there nether, however, they now ask that kind of money.... that's greediness and it makes me really ad, because I love that company, and I was expecting them, to give bac to the customer, the respect and the support, we as customers, have given to them. It's because of us, that this company made all those billions...Why now disrespect us all, like that?

Why call it a 0 degree grind or edge when it is a oxymoron? Just a scandi grind is sufficient with or without a micro bevel.

While this is very informative and helpful I am a person that likes to take grey areas out of the picture with facts and figures and as I’m not yet skilled at sharpening freehand I’d like to know the dimensions or at least the angle of the micro bevel on the Garberg so that I could make a jig to sharpen with. Maybe I missed something here maybe they don’t actually dial up an angle when they put the micro bevel on it.

The leather strop will give you the micro bevel. It can vary depending on how thick the leather is (thicker has more give) and what compound you put in the leather. You can free-hand a Mora on a stone by following the angle on the scandi grind and don't worry about the micro-bevel. If you only do this, you'll lose the micro-bevel. But you'll keep the micro-bevel by finishing with a leather strop. I'm summarizing what is stated towards the end of the video.

@@Pinki2019 Thanks I did get that part about stropping, I just thought that if I could just sharpen at the angle of the micro bevel then I could minimize how much of the protective black coating is removed.

I hate these microbevels. Either make it a true Scandi, or make the edge bevel large enough that one can see it to sharpen it, I say.
