    Jay, I have to be honest, I've been a viewer for quite some time and I've gone back and forth on whether I get much from your content personally. But dammit, it's official, I love what you do. It's really entertaining to keep up with all the crazy expensive gear you review. It's absurd in the best way possible. And frankly unique. I don't know of anyone in the hifi review world that does things the way you do it. Thank you!

      A server is a computer. Doesn't matter if it's Aurender, Innuos, Taiko, etc. A music server will have presentation software running on top of the platform O/S, a CPU to do the 'thinking', accessible storage for retrieving files, and some RAM for its 'live workspace'...along with the necessary I/O & power. But obviously any server you buy from Cisco, HP, Dell, et al will not be purpose-built to meticulously handle audio data and quietly present it.
      A high end CD transport is a fancy external CD/DVD ROM drive, basically.

    I have found that these types of systems are very difficult to setup for those of us who are not as technically capable with what’s needed to get things running. I tried roon a few times and I don’t see myself revisiting it again. If it’s not as simple as using an iPad, it’s likely not for me. Naim has an easy to use system. Hopefully things will get easier as the popularity continues to increase and enough resources are devoted improving the ease of use.

    Congrats Jay on adding the Taiko Extreme Server to your system. As a fellow Extreme owner I will share it will take around 1500 hrs to achieve its best sound but its excellent out of the box. What USB Cable are you using? I have great success with FTA Callisto. It will be interesting to get your take on the SQ of Taiko’s TAS software vs Roon. Enjoy and thanks for sharing your journey.

    Not certain what this will do for sound quality, given USB protocol will be clocked off board. My D2D USB to s/pdif uses 2 TCXOs to regulate USB data from whatever USB source using XMOS and driver software.

    Hi Jay- just wondered if you have tried the Antipodes servers such as the K50. Currently have a MSB DAC, Avalon speakers and Gryphon amp with Innuos Zenith MK3 which sounds very good however feel the Innuos is a little constrained compared to a better server such as Antipodes, demoed the Aqua LinQ network device which was incredible also.

    Hi Jay - "Taiko" is pronounced with an emphasis on the A, as "tAiko" (like Tyco) - it's a transliteration of the word "drum" in Japanese. As a long-time Aurender W20 user, I'm going for their new two-chassis flagship N30SA.

    Hi Jay, I am studying computer science and engineering in my undergrad and am new to high end audio. I have not heard high end gear and so I will not comment on that. But I know a little bit (at leasting hoping I do, else this undergrad was a waste XD) about computers and digital signals. What the product page describes on their website is all computer jargon, half of the stuff doesnt mean anything in real world, which leads to my skepticism, my question is wouldnt it be better to get a high end computer (worth 5k) and connect that to a good DDC which will then connect to your dac? Because DDCs are supposed to remove the noise and present a clean audio signal right? Love your videos Jay! They keep me motivated to get rich and be able to afford all the high end gear I want. Thanks for doing what you do! No-one else does it!

    • @phnelson033
      @phnelson033 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      High end computer meaning something built with off the shelf system board, PSU, heatsink (likely loud), with expensive, powerful components etc? That's good for gaming and editing, but for audio you'd be better off with a Roon Nucleus...if wanting an audio presentation solution, I mean. That would handle the audio data/signal much more quietly than a 'high end computer'. Depending on the DAC's capabilities, then a nice DDC re-clocker after the Nucleus would be a good way to approach that ~$5k combined price point. A quiet, quality aftermarket external power supply for the Nucleus would be another good purchase. For most of us here, that's likely a wise route to take. We don't have the system where a $20k-30k server's sonic attributes could be sufficiently revealed let alone appreciated like on Jay's set up.

    Warmer USB port? ... lol nope.
    But You can do that with software though.
    They might mean you can apply a different pre-output DSP function/filter to each data stream going to a different USB port.

  • @jbsaudio
    @jbsaudio 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A music server improves the sound quality, but I'm skeptical that this highly priced server will materially outperform a set up where you use a Roon Nucleus music server connected to your DAC of choice via ethernet to your network. I believe what you're paying for with this new music server is for their proprietary software that supposedly out-performs the Roon and Qobuz software by eliminating "noise." The question I would ask is assuming this new server improves the quality of the music by 10 or 20%, is it really worth $25K-$30K, when you can get better sound all day long with vinyl and a decent turntable and cartridge? Are there really enough reference quality digital recordings to justify this big an investment in your digital front end?

    • @jaysaudiolab
      @jaysaudiolab  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's the convenience Factor...people pay to valet their car so they don't have to walk miles. It's the same thing here. No need to go to a store to buy Vinyl.. everything is at your fingertips.

      Most vinyl fans are mistaken when saying „vinyl sounds best“. The point is: the plastic material called ‚vinyl’ has its own inherent sound (what admittedly many of you like) - and I‘m not talking about those klicks and pops all over the disc. This „vinylly“ sound signature DOES NOT belong to the music itself…keep that in mind. And if someone isn’t a natural born fiddler this whole turntable hassle isn’t that amusing either. We‘re not using mechanical typewriters any more either, do we?! Anyway this is a HOBBY…so whatever floats your boat, mate.

      Being an owner of the Laufer Teknik Memory Player myself, I can assure you that music servers like the Taiko and MP will outperform most other servers out there. Roon Nucleus doesn't stand a chance, used to own one as well.
      The first thing I noticed iut of the box with my MP is that the music exudes such an amazing texture, refinement, coherence that I have never heard before.
      I believe the Taiko might be similar that way.
