I really appreciate what you are doing man. There are a lot of insufferable gatekeepers in the cyber domain, and its really off-putting sometimes to learners like myself... All this to say that you bring a lot of value to this community.
thanks mate, and I agree there are a lot of kategakeers and I made it my mission to make them irrelevant

@egatycasi you think ethical and legal are the same thing? That's cute
Just found you today, have watched a couple videos and you have already answered my questions and given me and actionable plan. I'm pursuing a degree in cyber security and have been really overwhelmed with trying to choose a certification and how to prep and what specific steps to take. I appreciate and respect your opinion. It's been a big help to hear someone lay it out so straightforwardly. Respect.
glad to hear that! can’t wait to hear about your progress and your journey, keep us posted 👏🏻
I've finished my Google Cyber Security cert and understood that I don't have experience and watched your video about labs and projects and feel more confident with applying for jobs. Thank you and I hope you keep posting videos like this. Truly a blessing to the people joining the industry.

Bro, how long did it take you? How many hours a day?
@@fixer1140 I started early july and finished in september. I was completely new so I probably like 4-8 hours a day(because of me writing notes and reading source materials) Some people complete it in 5 days and some do in 6 months. It’s all about prior knowledge and/or time available.
Finally someone Who tells the real truth! I realized all what you said when i spend 3k and 6 Months for security+ course where were explained only basic stuff and no hands on experience and Guess what? No job, companies laughed at me thinking i could get at least an internship. The real path is more difficult and time consuming, your advice is the best for everyone who want to learn fast, good and hands on. I really like your video! Thank you for your honesty
glad you can see the truth! you should see the amount of abusive comments I got from people with security+ who are angry at me for not recommending it 😅
@@UnixGuyoh wow, I see that now 😊
Just found your channel and subscribed. This content was golden. I just started my MS in IT with a concentration in Cybersecurity and this is all new to me. Wanted a career change where demand is high. I will definitely follow this roadmap for the technical/practical skills knowledge while working on my degree for the theoretical knowledge. Looking forward to the rest of your videos!
thanks Nath! Enjoy the journey :)
Very well said and put together. This is some gold advice. Thank you.
🫡
you literally pointed at every certificate i doted down as "needed" on my way to OSCP and you said not to do those... I just finished my CCNA studies, just need to take the test now, and was planning on doing Comptia Sec+ next... but i will not. What you said makes a lot of sense, and during my CCNA studies i realized it's somehow wrong to get multiple choice on each exam. I have a decent amount of Python experience, and have been using Linux for the past 8 years, and for the last 10 years i've been working in IT (helpdesk level stuff), so it's time to go for my dream of cyber security. I'll follow your roadmap, and subscribe to your channel. Your way seems harder, but it makes a lot more sense. That analogy about learning to swim by reading a book really "hit the nail on the head"! Thank you for this, it was something i really needed but didn't know i needed.
hey mate, it’s definitely harder but you will be learning the skill needed to perfotm proper penetration testing - it’s also a lot more fun :)
Cissp and Ccna are irrelevant to pentesting. Cissp is for management and policy roles, ccna is for neteng roles. Totally different niches of security and not going to do anything but slow you down. There's no such thing as multiple choice in offsec, either you can find the vulns, exploit them, and report them, or you can't. Simple as that. Drop all that MQ shit and start using the keyword on THM,HTB,Proving grounds, etc
@markosaric8884 - tony is right. Those certs have nothing to do with security. I was a senior network engineer for years and have been a network architect for a quarter of my almost 3 decades in IT and I have CISSP. You need to be looking at actual stuff like pen testing or CEH.
now that is some quality content, very professional, very comprehensible and very enlightening. thank you from the bottom of my heart
🙏🏻
Love this vid, format, & dedication to help. Thank you!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for being a source of clarity and a guide for so many of us who are trying to get into the cyber security field. If it was not for this channel, I would have a much tougher time navigating my way into a path towards an entry level job in cyber security. I'm still undecided of wanting to pursue a job as an ethical hacker or a cyber analyst, but these videos help immensely. I know I am not alone in saying this, but your content has helped so many people and you are greatly appreciated!
glad to hear that! it’s perfectly fine not to be 100% certain what you want to do! pick a path and do some certs and see what happens, you will grow either way :)
Hey unixguy. I’m ccnp certified plus nse4. I love networking but i always feel attracted to cyber security. I started learning python few months ago but I stopped after few days. to be honest i felt programming is complicated specifically when it comes to long codes. This video popped in my screen accidentally and it really resurrected the passion inside me. This time I’ll start the journey the right way as u described and I’ll come to update when I finish every step. Thank u so much for this video 🙏
glad to hear that mate, if you’re passionate about it then go for it, you won’t regret learning!
Cant thank you enough for putting the info with clarity out there. Knowledge is meant to be shared and not stored. I have just begun my foray into cybersecurity and ethical hacking, which is a paid course. I had a tough time installing Kali Linux and maeta2 but i finally got both vms to talk to each other.
Thank you again for your words of encouragement.....but after hearing this video,i feel overwhelmed already. So much to learn, absorb, implement, practise and then pass the exams.

Yeah- I've never been the most tech savvy guy but I decided to throw my hat into the ring, so to speak. It's a little disheartening to encounter people who make me feel stupid and just tell me to read RTFM. I always thought nerds were meek and mild but they can get pretty vicious. Nothing worth doing is ever easy, I guess.
In any event, thanks for being a friendly, straightforward, and informative guy.
yes it’s unfortunate! but the good news now we have so many resources, if you follow the roadmap and study you will get to your goal!
I cannot thank you enough for making this video and I count myself really really lucky to have come across and More so, taken tike to watch it. I almost wish it didn't end. My interest in everything you said just further denotes how interested I am in being an ethical hacker and not just because it sounds cool or I get to wear a hoodie 😅. But because I want to build a successful career for myself legitimately. I might not be able to reach out to you personally but trust me you've really made an impact in me at this hour. The highlights you've made will help me draw out a more concise road map for myself for the year 2024. I will be so proud of myself to let you know how I've improved in months to come. Thank you, Love from Nigeria 🇳🇬 😊

the video is gold! i've watched a few videos on the subject and most of them were either totally useless bullshit or an advertisement for an affiliate program. thanks for taking the effort to prepare and provide all the info compactly and without blah blah blah!

I was already studying for the Sec+ when the Google cert came out, and I already had my exam scheduled for next week. I now realize the limitations of the multiple choice format. I’ve learned a lot of the foundational knowledge with the Sec+ so I still feel good about my decision to get it, but now I really need to get hands on with the THM / HTB courses. Thank you sir! 👏
you have a great mindset! I’m certain you’ll do very well 👏🏻
@@UnixGuy Passed!! 😮💨 I wish I had more time to gain a few extra points on the performance passed questions, and I wish the multiple choice questions didn't have so much fluff in them.
Now I'm thinking about where my time would be best spent next (if I want to keep my Comptia cert track valid), Linux+, Server+, or Pentest+?
@@samfisher5302 congrats on the pass! well done!
I don’t recommend any of those certs. Time to move on from CompTIA and do something more practical. All the advice you need is in the videos so please war h them again
I thought you only pay for the cert in Google cyber security course .$29 a month😢😢
that's dependent on where you live@@LumwanjiNgige
This was such a great video. There are so many people out there looking for a new career, and it's so hard to find specific, useful information that they can use to determine if a) it's even something they would be interested in doing, b) is the market too saturated to be worth the time and money, c) what skills/learning track should they be focusing on in order to actually get a job? And many people, when you ask them about these things always come back with some cliche like "you get out what you put in." And then there are those click bait videos that make it sound like anyone can just get a certification and immediately start making upwards of $100 grand a year with no experience. Videos like this with specific, and actionable steps from someone who has actually become successful in the industry are priceless. Thank you for taking the time to help beginners figure out what they should be doing.
thanks mate, glad you found it useful, that’s my goal :)
Helpful, I'm just on the way from getting off the track but thanks to you and this video, finally found where I was wrong

You have a new subscriber!
Yeah mate I totally understand!! thankfully there are many things we can do to assist and make passing the OSCP a lot easier :)
do you need to pay $1500 if u are taking it again?
@@abhithesh2465 to my knowledge no. Offsec has many ways to pay for it after a failed attempt.
They have revamped the course since I took it last, so I could do an upgrade which costs significantly less.
And if I failed more recently all I would pay for is a lab extension which comes with a retake attempt.
A retake voucher without the lab would cost even less than that. I would have to check the prices on that again. But I recall retake vouchers costing in the high double digits or low triple digits in dollars.
No, $250.
Oscp is very easy though, it's the most basic network pentesting. None of it is realistic, it's all disclosed CVEs. Real world hacking doesn't work like that 99% of the time, most companies that are competent have patch management programs
With that said though, it's a great beginner cert and can get you in the door and give you a baseline of offsec knowledge, but it's the bare bones knowledge needed
You have no idea how much your videos have helped me. Thank you! 🙏🏻
You are so welcome 🫡

Hello . I honestly would like to thank you because with this roadmap i see clearly stuff . I started txo months ago with basic knowledge such as A+ and network + than i finished . And i was about to start security + because it seems like a top certification and because of all these videos who say that you need to have a security + but i have found out that i lost it and kind of getting away from the ethical hacker path because it was not really technical.
