He’s obviously using some outboard effects (the B-Wave has no built-in effects), which are needed to get the best sounds out of it. The raw, naked sound of a lot of early digital synthesizers, like the PPGs, DWs (minus delay), DXs, CZ/VZs, K3, K150 etc really wasn’t that pleasing and nearly all the recordings you hear of them are processed through a host of wet effects.

Hello, I wanted to ask a quick question, are the big buttons on the keypad, etc., mechanical buttons? As in, do they have actual keys/switches under the keycaps? Like a computer keyboard? Im loving your videos! It’s great you got to test this unit out!
I wasn't too familiar with PPG but it's digital. Not analog. So still the analog sound remains supreme although this might sound different or more complex. I had the Iridium but sold it in favor of analog machine that are available also from Behringer. Analog is still more pure, smooth and creamier? Looking for the words to compare. Modulated MPE analog like PB12 can probably do better but this is only a fraction of the price. Not sure I need it. I suppose the 3rd wave for a lot more money can be smooth but then it's also expensive.
I have the 3rd Wave and this pretty much stacks up to it from what I have heard so far. 3rd Wave is a little more light and airy while The Wave has a bit more gritty bite to it. I may have to explore this more especially if it comes in desktop.
@ sounds crazy right. I played my 3rd Wave along to the video and definitely noticed a more lofi grit on the Wave. Could just be TH-cam video quality. 3rd Wave still has a magic sparkle to it that I am not hearing from the Wave. Hopefully we get a side by side comparison soon!
every opinion must be respected, and I thought the same as you, but I think that the latest Behringer instruments like the UB-xa and this Wave are really well made and sound good. Then as I repeat everyone is free to think what they want. Probably by dint of trying Behringer is starting to get the instruments right and in any case I don't have thousands of $ to buy an original, if the sound comes close to the original I will try to squeeze what the market offers me and I'm sure I'll have fun anyway.
I have had a lot of behringer synths, here is my take. 25% sound wrong/bad, 50% sound close/decent...but there is a little magic lost, 25% sound just as good/spot on/better than the original.
@@fortheloveofnoise Sadly my percentage is 0% good to spot on and 100% sound wrong/bad and I have had over 20 ,sold the lot .Uli makes clones like the film Westworld ,they end up turning against you.
The sound is AMAZING
Tangerine Dream used the original PPG Wave synthesizer, especially in the early eighties on albums like Exit and Le Parc.
If you want one of the most secret Tangerine Dream albums, look at the soundtrack that was done for GtA 5.
It already sounds amazing on my sheedee TV speakers, so just imagine how this will sound in people's studios.

For me the thing about this sense is you can make endlessly great music with it just a drum machine in this you’re good to go
Awesome
Great playing and great sounds
man it sounds dirty l like it!
I pre-ordered it :-) Just wonderful... can't wait to play it.
Kim Wilde's Wiev From A Bridge song is made with the first sound in this demo.
And one of the sounds on my track 'Halo' from the album 'Solstice'. I hope Behringer copied all the factory presets into their Wave.

I pre bought and will also at first bathe it in a giant reverb !
Wow! It really does sound like my old PPG.
This is the best comment that can be done. 😀
It means that they have done a very good work.
Too smooth to be PPG , they copied the cyclewave ROM and voicepanning but the rest is handled differently by a generic Fpga /pi
And it costs ~600$
@@cnfuzz It almost sounds like a Microwave 1. Which I love, always wanted to own one.
The filter is surprisingly nice
Big fan!!
Looks like it will be a few more months for U.S. Anderton preorder has 3-months or more on website.

Yeah the RD-9 has weird keys don’t feel mechanical at all. Was wondering the same thing…
Please show us the sequencer
It has midi. Sequence it from your DAW.

MultiPoly shows digital can do creamy
Digital oscillators only, since it's a wavetable synth. It doesn't make analog better, just different.
wow
I think Alphaville used the PPG
Also The Twins in 1982
