  • We Did all of the Gear Lubes on Stephens 1998 Toyota Tacoma 3.4L V6 with Manual Transmission. We changed the Front & Rear differential fluid to AMSOIL Severe Gear Lube 75W-90 GL-5 Specification. The transfer case also takes the same GL-5 75W-90 gear lube fluid as the transmission and differentials. The transfer case on this 1998 Toyota Tacoma is easy to service just like the manual transmission standard drain and fill.

    Did you know a oil manufacturer can call a lubricant a Full Synthetic when it's only 25% synthetic? AMSOIL is different because it is 100% Synthetic and has a higher film strength keeping the metal parts separated. AMSOIL allows less friction, less heat, less wear on the component. AMSOIL Signature Series motor oil will last 25,000 miles on 1 oil change! See Results -

      That's a great question At the moment I would work on slowly switching everything over.
      Priority wise I would start with the motor oil and the coolant.
      After that you could do the transmission in the differential.

Listen to the car care not, he’s a real Toyota mechanic, not just a blow hard boy boss. You don’t need those silly squeeze bottles. Just some clear hose to a funnel above the fill level.

    Thanks for the helpful video. In September, my daughter bought a 1998 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4x4 2-door Extra Cab with a 2.7 liter engine and automatic transmission. I purchased your Amsoil Severe Gear®75W-90 Oil. I drain and filled the transfer case and the rear differential. Then it looked like I did not have enough left from my order to drain and fill the front diff. But, from this video, I can see I can do the front diff with my last quart of Amsoil Severe Gear®75W-90 Oil. I'll go ahead and get that done. The truck has 246k on the odometer. I did not want to include my daughter's truck in my Amsoil ATF experiment so, so far, I have done two drain and fills on her 1998 Tacoma's automatic transmission with Toyota branded Dexron III. The old hard shifting automatic transmission, on her 98 Tacoma, now sifts very smooth with just two drain and fills of manufacture recommended ATF. This gave me a clue that this old transmission would respond well to an Amsoil full synthetic ATF transition. In a couple of years, I'm going to take my daughter's Tacoma through an Amsoil ATF transition. It will probably require three four-quart drain and fills, spread out over a three week period. Thanks for the helpful video on transfer case and differential drain and fills.

      He as long as there's no leaks you don't have to wait for anything You can always drain and fill it in one day and if it doesn't look as clean as you want you can always do another drain and fill That's what you'll see I do on a lot of Honda CVT. th-cam.com/video/5ofbqSs5Xx0/w-d-xo.html

      @@Syntheticoilprotection I have been shying away from CTVs because they do not seem like proven technology for long life on an original transmission. I like how some Toyota six speed automatics can drive past 400k on the original transmission. Would the Amsoil full synthetic ATF, in a CVT, bring longer life even on poorly engineered Nissan Jatco CVT Transmission?

    Don't use GL 5 in transmissions with synchronizers that are made of brass. It will attack brass. Use GL 3 or GL 4 only.
    GL 5 is for hypoid gears in axle differentials.

    Hi Eban, the videos are great. I've been using 0-20 Signature series 1 year or 25,000 miles in my 2015 Subaru Forrester 2.5 ..Seeing I only drive 5,000 miles a year with no oil consumption I've been using the standard OEM Subaru oil filter... am I pushing the limits of the filter? Subaru recommends oil and filter every 6,000 miles or six months. One friend says it's not the right oil to use because I drive so little... but I believe AMS Oil is way over kill , but means less recycling of old oil and the oil seems to have great lubricity after a year.. One thing I did notice last change is the older the oil got it looked red on the rag and dip stick... Is this the molly in the signature series? I get great gas mileage using AMS oil ..Average of 35 miles a gallon. Way over what the manufacturer says a forester will get. On the Subaru Oil that was used the first few years I was getting about 29 miles a gallon.

    • @Syntheticoilprotection
      @Syntheticoilprotection  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As far as filtration it's okay to use the OEM filter however the anti drain back valve in the filter medium doesn't trap as many contaminants and the oil filter anti drain back valve doesn't last quite as long as the silicone they use on the M12 filters so I always recommend using the Amsoil oil filter if you're going to do an oil change once a year.
      If you're only driving 5,000 miles you can use the Amsoil XL motor oil which will be plenty good enough for the year😉
      That's an unbelievable fuel mileage Improvement!
      It's amazing how some cars get a mile a gallon better some get 20% better gas mileage after switching over.
      Thanks for sharing all that information with my TH-cam Community😉😊

    I have a '98 tacoma v6 auto. 280K miles. Transmission feeling funny. Oil doesn't look too bad but looks like it's time to drain & fill. Should I switch to amsoil synthetic or stay w/factory recommended? When should u NOT switch to synthetic Transmission oil? Thanks

    • @Syntheticoilprotection
      @Syntheticoilprotection  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean if it was my personal vehicle I would switch everything over to amsoil because of the cost savings on maintenance longevity smoother driving better gas mileage that goes on and on....
      however if something's broken I wouldn't waste any money on amsoil I would just get your transmission fixed.
      but if your transmission's not broken and it still runs okay I would still switch it over because it's just going to run a lot better.
      But it's one of those things where amsoil is not going to fix anything.
      it'll shift smoother it'll run smoother but it's not going to fix a broken piece of metal.

    around the 9:44 mark when drainning the rear axle fluid one can clearly see your dude's rear axle outter seals have failed. Soaked drum backing plate and sprayed inside of rear tire. Just had my outter bearings and seals done for same reason on a 2002 4x4 trd tacoma with 365k miles. His t-case definetly also has a leak!

      The Jeep transmission is very similar to like a Hellcat or like a Dodge Charger I believe it's a standard sealed transmission where you drop the pan replace the filter slap on a fresh gasket and then fill her up from underneath or you may fill it from the top dipstick tube.
      As far as the differentials and the transfer case that should be a standard drain and fill and you'll see that in my playlist section on my homepage.

    I just did a Fluid Change on my Ford Ranger 2.2l Turbo M/T as I bought it a few weeks ago at 70km on the odometer. This is the 1st transmission-Axle fluid change as per the previous owner never changed it yet. Or does not even plan to change it at all. I have this guess that he rushes to sell the truck because his feeling sluggishness and unresponsiveness on light acceleration. Upon testing I know right away it needs a new rubber hose on the turbo because it's showing signs of leaks but no physical crack or lines and no check engine lights, and some basic fluid and filter change. he thought it's just too old and just get a new one. That is why I got it dirty cheap after telling him it might be a blown engine already.
    What I did first was to change engine oil AMSOIL 5w30 signature, (I did not flush it yet, just a clean change with a new filter). And also replaced the intercooler hose. Used Amsoil 75w90 transmission Fluid 100% Syn GL-5, and 80w90 Rear Axle Fluid GL-4 100% Syn. Man oh man, it shifts like butter and run like a different car since I brought it home.
    I also bought an amsoil coolant flush and coolant, but I did not poured the flush because the coolant that came out looks fine and clean. I will just use the flush on my Honda Civic instead.
    The good thing about pickup and SUV is that it has high ground clearance, I can do it myself. But for my sedan, I have let the shop do it because I'm afraid to go down there with just a piece of jack stand holding the car. I don't care how good jack stands are, I just don't trust tiny piece of metal.
