HOW WE EAT 4000 CALORIES A DAY AND STAY SLIM

  • People always ask us how we stay so slim and maintain muscle mass on a vegan diet, our bodies are calorie burning machines and it's all down to some simple tips that we naturally followed through life, it was only until we realised we were doing them that we could really work on them and share them.
    All the best,
    Dave & Steve.

    Eat an early dinner (5:30), brush my teeth together with the kids (ensures no further munching), go to bed early, and get up before the kids for a morning run 🏃‍♀️💪

    It's much healthier to stay fit and slim no matter what today's political correctness demands.
    To stay slim, I eat a big helping of veggies or a large salad before each meal, even breakfast. Then I eat lots of whole grains, beans, potatoes, and/or sweet potatoes aka starches with no added oil, nuts, seeds, or avocados. I make sure my foods are well seasoned, delicious, and appetizingly arranged. I try to eat only at 7, 12, and 5. If I feel hungry before then, I stay calm and remind myself that I can't starve in the hour or two before my next meal.
    I hike, kayak, bike, train dogs, garden, clean my house, and park far away from entrances to increase my steps. I'm not young anymore, but I feel strong, healthy, lean, and fit.
    I get 10 hours of sleep per night in a well-ventilated, extra-dark room.

    My natural rhythm is so that I am not hungry in the morning so my first meal of the day is lunch. You could call it intermittent fasting, but I just don't get hungry earlier. I've had that since I was a kid, my family would always eat breakfast and I would sit next to them and wait, since I wasn't hungry. I've tried eating breakfast more often, but my body doesn't really get used to it. Depending on the amount of food I eat in the morning one of these two events take place: I end up skipping lunch, because I really can't eat anything or I eat just as much food during the rest of the day, as I would do without eating breakfast. I do gain weight quite quickly, if I try to have a traditional breakfast. I mean another option that would probably work could be eating breakfast in the morning and eating lunch at like 4 pm or so, but for social reasons I couldn't really stick to that rhythm.So I personally think there is no reason for me to force myself to eat breakfast, I don't see any benefit for me personally.

    They make some good points here, but one I totally disagree with is fasting. It doesn't work for everyone and there is no scientific proof that what they claim in terms of 'making you live longer'. I have tried and I felt awful and light headed. If you are working and studying, your brain needs food at regular intervals, I know mine does.

    • @orlaithmeehan9940
      @orlaithmeehan9940 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      you're supposed to feel dizzy. our bodies are filled with chemicals through the foods we eat and things we put in our bodies. chemicals fizz when they evaporate. I feel like the chemicals are fizzing off my brains through detoxing and juicing. the highs and lows are tough but worth it in the end. we must stop this obsession with eating food all the time and over eating and eating fake non organic foods. we are all filled with gunk that's going to not feel great when our bodies are trying to get it out

    • @michelelosse7570
      @michelelosse7570 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My body IS NOT filled with chemicals with the food I eat, because I make sure I eat healthily with organic fruit and vegs, free range organic chickent and salmond occasionallly. for a start.Second, I work and I have breakfast at about 6:30. My lunch, usually a salad or a hot vegetarian or vegan meal, provided by my employer, is anything between 12 and 1. I don't get home till about 7 at the earliest and excercise in the evening, with some classes at 8pm. I have a job where I cannot consume food at my desk as I handle historical documents. I need three meals a day. As I said, there is no scientfic proof that fasting is good for you. If it works for you fine, but don't assume everyone needs it nor eat chemically treated non organic or healthy food. Some of us don't.

    So many people on about "diets diets diets" ... keto to atkins to paleo to weight watchers .... As these lads said in the video, you should eat healthy meals. That said, any "diet" that puts more calories into your body than you're burning means you'll store the additional energy/calories. I wish people would stop with the fad diets and just start eating in moderation whilst doing moderate exercise. *getting off my soap box*

    Thank for the tips! I stay lean with macrobiotic diet. And just a pointer: I would say have your last meal latest 3 hours before you go to sleep. Digestion takes around 3 hours, so you shouldn't have your body working on that when you go to sleep, because he (your body) also needs to have a fully rest! ;)

    Eating fruit first thing. Watermelon is great. Moves through the digestive system and pulls toxins as it goes along, helps you have better bowel movements & also hydrates so less likely to retain water!

    Intermittent fasting is the only thing that has helped me lose weight. I run/walk 5x a week, eat a whole food plant based diet and am active. But, I could not lose weight until I decided to eat breakfast around 10am and eat my last meal around 6pm. Then no snacks after dinner! I have read that during the night your gut bacteria is working to "clean" the lining of your stomach. This isn't possible if your stomach is full of food. Also, cell repair is also happening while you sleep so it's important to allow your body to regenerate/repair instead of digesting food.

    My story is different from a lot of what I've read in the comments. First of all I'm not what I consider slim, but people who knew me when I was a size 22 would say I was. I have managed to keep 65 pounds off for five years by implementing incremental changes in my lifestyle. I track my calories using the My Fitness Pal app; aiming for 1600 calories per day. On my exercise heavy days-- like today when I was at the gym for three hours-- my goal is 2000 calories, which some people would say is too much. I wake up at 5 am so I can get in a morning workout before work. I also teach evening classes at the gym three to four times a week, as I became a certified fitness instructor in 2015. Last year for Lent I switched to a vegan diet because I knew the hardest thing for me to forgo would be cheese, yogurt, and ice cream. I felt so much better and lost a few more pounds so I decided to stay with a mostly plant based diet. My current diet is about 90 % vegan. (When I'm not it's generally because I'm not the most avid label reader.) what I'm lacking is sleep. I'm a school teacher so I'm at school from 7-3 with no time for scheduled eating breaks. Then, depending on the day I may be at the gym as late as 8pm teaching a class. That means I'm eating dinner around 8:30 and going to bed at 10, only to get up and do it all over again the next day. With such a busy schedule, meal prep is my lifeline to eating healthy. I prep salad jars on the weekend so that I can have something light on those late nights.

    Suggestion for a video: Good (healthy and delish) vegan food for kids. This year I'm gonna become a father so I'm interested in how you approach food and kids. Also through the perspective of not living in a vegan world where schools and other families might not have the same perspective as your own family.

    Agree with all you said! also staying lean is an equilibrium between the amount of food you eat and exercices! and i think the most important : eat when you feel hungry...i do not follow a schedule of eating at anytime of the day! i normally have breakfast 2-3 hours after i get up, then i eat another, bigger meal in the afternoon and nothing else, so i average 2 meals per day. Sometimes if i feel hungry a few hours before bedtime, i eat something light like my day before soaked oatmeal. ! voilà!

    I can so relate because I eat loads (plant-based obvs) and stay slim. I avoid processed food as much as possible but don't restrict myself either. If I'm craving a biscuit or two I would still have them. I have had a super busy year so far finishing uni and all and I haven't been working out a whole lot so it's a good thing I don't have to worry about that. I feel healthy and good as ever ☺️

    • @Apocalypz
      @Apocalypz 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dianne, one of the best focal points for losing and maintaining a healthy weight is counting your calories (e.g. check with your GP what will work best for your body and lifestyle) and eating balanced meals (e.g. whole foods, plenty of veg, etc.). You can turn exercise into something fun once you find an activity you enjoy -- other than sitting idle. ;) Some people enjoy running; some enjoy long walks with the dog; some enjoy swimming; others enjoy going to the fitness centre; there are some who enjoy bicycle riding. Me? I do simple callisthenics at home (5 min a day?), AND I am careful to not indulge in high calorie foods every day. I've kept my weight for 7+ years and have found it rather easily done. I hope this helps!

They even cited a study done on the elderly, of both genders. It works the same either way. If you want to be lean, eat as many calories as you burn in a day, or less. To burn more calories (meaning you can eat more food without adding weight), work out more. You can do cardio/endurance stuff, or resistance stuff. Endurance burns calories without adding a ton of muscle, whereas resistance burns calories and adds muscle.

      Sorry Gabi but that's a very uninformed reply. A slight boost or slight raise in Testosterone levels in women from a healthy active lifestyle is great for the woman's health. Testosterone has over 200 important functions in the female body.
      You are not going to grow a moustache as a result of slightly elevated Test levels from a healthy lifestyle and diet. That is quite frankly a ridiculous statement. You would need significantly elevated levels for that, so either a endocrine problem or the use of exogenous hormones. Both very different topics.
      Rather than berating the two lads who are trying to educate and empower people with simple, effective and accessible information, wouldn't it be better to do a little research into what they are saying first so you would see that all of their tips and comments are beneficial to men and women.

      Sorry, Cormac, but my complaint is not about the science of testosterone effects. It's about "the happy pear" keeping in mind the female audience. That means, for instance, saying in the video, after mentioning the benefits of increased testosterone levels, something to the effect that "females will also benefit, without any masculinizing results." Many postings, not just here but all over, seem truly oblivious to the fact that women may be present. I think it's not too much to ask to acknowledge that fact.
