20+ years out of school and this is now how my son is learning long division. I needed this in order to explain to him this version. It took me a good 5 minutes of looking over his homework to realize I had no idea how to explain this "move up" method and finally gave in to TH-cam. Thanks!!
Thank you Mr. J! My 10 year old came to me for help with the box method and I looked at his paper and went dumb. I learned it bringing the remainders down, and I've never seen a box anything other than the this grey paper I used to get in my math class that we folded into squares and we had to "SHOW YOUR WORK" all in the space. I watched your video with my son and both of us had a "oh ya" moment at the same time. Thank you for explaining it so simply!

I love this box method! It's so much cleaner and easier to see. Not so confusing as trying to bring down numbers and keep track of them all. My daughter got so frustrated with trying to bring down numbers and make sense of it. She gave up. This is is so much better. Thank you.
I have been searching for different ways to teach long division to my students who struggle with the Traditional/Regular "Daddy, Mother, Sister, Brother, Rover" Method. This Box Method seems very organized and easier to follow then the Traditional one. I really hope my students will be able to excel using the Box Method. Thank You Mr. J for posting this video - It is needed since everyone has a different learning style :D
I'm a math teacher and former Professor of EE. I found this very cumbersome for my children and very time consuming to arrive at the correct answer. I teach my children the fastest and simplest method.

Dude I learned this all last year and I went on the summer slide and I forgot! Now I’m in 5th grade and I have homework on factors and I had to divide you helped me so much if you haven’t already finished the video do it now it will show improvement!
I’m 28 and will be teaching 4th grade math soon. I have never seen this method. Thank you for sharing. I think knowing this method would have helped me 19 years ago haha
