      yep take a look at the lower back it always starts with the va'a the begining of the journey.

      Yes. Every Samoan knows this. The tattoo starts with the Canoe (not ship). The canoe is across the back, then followed by ocean and fish symbols the all the way down to the knees. Every symbol has its meaning but the canoe is the most prominent across the back. It's like a pictorial history of seafarers braving the oceans. The canoe is simbolic cos its what carried them their their islands..very important in the Pacific Islands
