There is actually a clock running all the time for the service interval indicator. The batteries are used to retain the service interval function when the car's battery is dead.

What connector and pin controls the speedometer (how fast type traveling) Do you have any tips on how to test the speedo works on the cluster?
I seriously never understood why that cluster needs batteries since it has no clock and no digital quilometer/miles

Can you Connect the temp gauge direct? Or do you need the board
Yes you need a board
battery cause the malfunction with time they leak acid better to remove them and the board will last for ever
