Working on this on my 89 e30 cabrio. It has the motometer. When I got to this step( 7:57 ) the batteries were super corroded and they are a much much bigger size (like a aa). Should be fine, I’ll jump with wire but kinda funny. The board is also vdo even though the cluster is motometer
I think you should match the voltage. An actual AA battery's voltage will be too different - should be fine if the old and new batteries have the same voltage 🤔
Hi. I think they are used for some old cameras, so maybe film shops will have them - I'm not sure. Should be easy enough to find online - look for CR2 batteries
Sorry, i haven't got a clue. Are you sure it's not just normal behavior like newer cars? Anyway a lot of the stuff I've found regarding the E30 has been on E30Zone: www.e30zone.net/e30wiki/index.php?title=Instruments#Dash_Lights www.e30zone.net/forum/search.php?keywords=Tachometer&terms=all&author&sc=1&sf=titleonly&sr=posts&sk=t&sd=d&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search
@@PorchGarage thanks. I also consult this website. But I wonder what the SI batteries are really for other than powering the tachometer. Are they also used to store service indicator lights memories?

This worked for me! I just used a lot of hot glue instead of the zip ties. Thanks for posting!
This was fantastic, thank you
Great video! Thank you very much!

Yeah. I’ll validate. I just thought it was funny how they are different sizes. Thanks for making the video. Very helpful all around
Thank you!. Just picked up am E30 and the tachometer doesn't work. I'll try this!
Hope it works for you
@@PorchGarage thank you. I'll keep you posted
You the man!

Nice!
my green LEDs always light up when i turn on ignition switch. It goes off after turnign on engine. IS this also due to bad batteries?

hello, you did not need to remove the steering wheel? Thanks for you feedback
Did not need to remove the steering wheel 😊
@@PorchGarage thank you! 👍👍
What are the symptoms? My fuse is burning like hell, will this be a fix?
Hi. For me it was only the tachometer and speedometer which worked intermittently. I don't think the batteries would cause problems with the fuses.
My e30s speedometer is sometimes at zero...the sometimes reads speed inaccurately can you do one on the speedo
Perhaps you can try the suggestions on E30Zone: www.e30zone.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=279606
2:15 whats that exclamation point sensor for?
Hmm, I'm not sure. Maybe a check engine light? www.e30zone.net/e30wiki/index.php/Instruments#Check_Light
or maybe brake fluid level?
I have the early model cluster
The rpm isn’t working, so I should change the batteries?
Sorry, i have no idea. Maybe you can check on the E30Zone wiki and forum
@Elias did you find the source of the problem already?
@@mullerman1104 no I didn’t
Best option to buy a new cluster
@@EliasRizk53 Do the Interior lights work? If not it’s a fuse.
Where did you get the batteries from?
Any CR2 battery will do. I bought from Shopee - shope.ee/4fM9YE4TFk
