As a medicare and business educator, your figures are very close to average in Australia - and you have used an excellent Bulkbilling example. In most circumstances now however clinics are private billing and charge a gap of $25-$50 minimum. As such the earnings are even higher than you have indicated. There is currently widespread rumours that GPs in Australia are underpaid - this applies to GPs who dont code correctly and bill for all the services (such as you have indicated can, and should be done in a single consultation) - Clearly if you want to even more then simply learning how to code and be more efficient you can bill well over $600k a year

GP in Perth WA here. These numbers are a bit off. there's a lot more naunces needing to be considered. Sufficed to say, that for a fulltime GP here, the average income is between $150k - $200k pre-tax. You will hear all sorts of numbers being quoted, but the most accurate source is probably the RACGP (Royal College of GP). It's relatively common to be making $300k - $400k, or even higher.

If 150-200k is the average , then it doesn’t make sense to say 300-400k is common , you just aren’t logic .

A review of a mental health treatment plan includes taking relevant history (biological, psychological, social,) including the presenting complaint, conducting a full mental state examination, assessing associated risk and comorbidity, making a diagnosis and administering an outcome tool, questionnaire, then writing a review plan of about a page. This cannot be done in 10 minutes. Most do not require a mental health care plan . Most pts do not attract the bulkbilling incentive. Most GPs would see 4 pts an hour at most. Overservicing may attract the attention of the government department that oversees Medicare rebates. The item numbers also do not include hours of unpaid work reviewing results and completing forms. If you read the Australian news you will note that Australian GPs are currently unhappy with the current rebate which is half what it should be. Not being critical, but important to be realistic.

Your numbers here are quite a ways off. The average 5 day/week full time GP earns around $250k, much less than the numbers you have quoted. The bull billing incentive also is $6, not $11 and cannot be applied for the majority of patients

Lovely and really informative video Dr Erwin. Are you planning to work in Australia? Do you mind doing a video on how MRCGP UK can registered and start working in Australia so that would be great to know if you include how could you get registration and also about your thoughts is that worth starting working as salaried or a partner or start own practice and that must be very challenging. Really appreciated in Advance
