The biggest takeaway from the Daytona 24 is; you can cheat and keep the win. Sure you lose points, but if you care more about the trophies and the glory, then the points don't matter. Especially if there are teams who enter for only the big race.

    • @rolux4853

But what exactly was the cheat?
The bops are created by IMSA and if the cars are modified according to the rules and accepted then everything is legal.
Racing is (and always was) reading the rules to you profit.
If it gets accepted then you did nothing wrong, you just read the rules to your advantage.
Especially these days with all that stupid BoP crap that destroys natural races it’s a good thing when manufacturers are still able to find some technical advantage!
Racing in the golden ages from the 60s to the early 90s was so amazing because there was no BoP, but a shitload of creativity when it came to reading the rules.
Or downright cheating when it came to NASCAR, but in great creative and fun for the fans ways!

It's a lose lose situation for IMSA, they've gotten just as much shit for reversing the results in 2014 between the level 5 ferrari and flying lizard audi.
I do agree however that "lose the points, lose the race" is the better option and am pissed that we now have 2 rolex's in a row with this result. Even if I feel that IMSA's BOP process this year incentivized companies to be bearish, regardless of potential punishment and they did it to themselves.
Could you imagine the shit show BMW's and Ferrari's motorsport division would have in house if they were bullish on their estimates of performance and came up short (and in last), because of BOP penalties?
If I was a team owner I'd be pissed and already start considering pulling a McNeil via chassis swap mid year, because my team even if they were on point would be losing and thus losing money because my manufacturer was a braggart that up sold shit when it wasn't the reality.

Biggest takeaway from the Daytona 24 hours was that Ferrari and BMW sandbagged their performance during testing, then suddenly were faster than the entire GTD field. Thankfully, IMSA reported on this but basically gave them a slap on the wrist(Manufacturers only lost point), rather than the punch in the nuts both groups deserve.(The penalty should have been that all Ferrari and BMW drivers, teams and manufacturers get stripped of points for cheating and the revocation of the win to the next car in line that wasn't either BMW or Ferrari.)

@@WyldStallion-bs9ooWhen IMSA made their new BoP rules, they went to each team and watched testing at the Roar. Doing all the normal power output checks, fueling rate, aero coefficient readings(for down force purposes), tire wear rate, etc, IMSA set the BoP for each car and team. During the race, the Ferraris and BMWs all showed INCREASED pace compared to the rest of the field and their own testing data. Atmospheric conditions aside(as no one can control the weather), showing any kind of marked improvement(sector times being consistently faster, enhanced straight line speed, faster exit velo, etc.) was noted by IMSA on race day. 24 hours of racing later, IMSA saw gains from Ferrari and BMW in performance over what they tested at. Knowing this, IMSA only hit the manufacturers with the penalty, NOT the teams and drivers.(Which they should have done.) Both the teams and drivers were in on this, because it wasn't like there was a race engineer in Italy or Germany who on the night before the race hit the cars with an update to gain more power. IMSA half-assed the penalty.

I felt that the Ferrari and BMW penalty was harsh for the sake of which performance were the cars expected to have? Like they were fast yeah but the laptimes were similar to the rest of the grid

    • @larrypelrine1799
      @larrypelrine1799 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

Not in the slightest. When a Ferrari or BMW rips by the field and the commentators mention that they have "pace", which was each ferrari or bmw team turning the power up, compared to their testing speeds and power output. Any other team, any other race the penalty is all drivers, teams and manufacturers lose all points for the race and the win is revoked. The problem was that the penalty wasn't harsh enough.

Great racing, but I hated the finish. As a Caddie fanboy I wish they would have swapped out Aitken for Pipo Or Tom at the last yellow flag, then the obvious early flag. But hey, Here come Sebring, and AXR and CGR are fast, lets go🔥🔥

The Porsche GT3 car was more competitive because of the new BoP Process for GT cars in IMSA. Last year, IMSA performed the BoP, and they're historically pretty harsh on new cars in the series, which Porsche suffered from.
This year, the Manufacturers are in charge of the BoP and performance windows for GT cars, hence the penalty for Ferrari and BMW. It also means the Porsche wasn't absolutely annihilated with performance BoP from IMSA. Specifically, looking at the technical bulletins from 2023 vs 2024, the Porsche's were 15kg, had a much larger restrictor plate, 36mm(vs 33mm in 2023) and their minimum wing angle was +5.5(vs +5.7 in 2023). It was improvements across the board.
