    Reminds me back in the day running a 6 inch high air filter on the Cater AFB,s having to cut a threaded rod in half , guess it became a different story when the fuel injection system come on the scene . I miss.those old days !.

      I have one on my 19 GT. It’s a PP1 car with the 10 speed, and I’ve added a Steeda catback. I ran the Injen without tune for 5 months until I got my Xcal and custom tuned, and my car made 430/410 with everything. The improvement from the tune only was right at 20hp. Hope this helps ya !

    Do you think a pos made in china tube works better than the box that is made by engineers for your car???

    Where are the comparative intake air temps between stock and aftermarket intakes? I've only seen one comparison (by Humble Mechanic) and the aftermarket intake lost to the oem intake. So can you go back, test, and show the the different intake air temps of the units used in this video?

      Can’t tell you about mustang, but on 9th gen Honda Civic, stock si stock intake is 15-25° above ambient temp, aftermarket short ram is 20 to almost 50° above ambient, it’s heat soak like crazy, cold air intake is better but it’s still 20-30° above ambient… the only way for intake to run “colder” than stock is it must draw air from outside of the vehicle, it’s also know as ram air intake, on civic si, it can lower the average ambient temp down to almost ambient during acceleration, and 5-10° above ambient during stop & go traffic..
      We know this because hondata can read & display sensor reading that ecu reads… so we can actually see AIT live & compare to ambient temp display in the gauge.

      @@wkndbikeshop As one who drank the Koolaid I installed the intake which Humble Mechanic tested and compared (AITs) with the OEM unit. Had I seen his test results beforehand I might have gone some different route. I reflect on the heavy aftermarket aluminum intercooler hanging over the front end of my stage.2+ car; is it a more efficient charge-air cooler than the OEM unit it replaces? I blame myself for not knowing and for not asking for comparative test data. Some descriptions of aftermarket parts read like marketing malarkey while providing no data at all. Caveat emptor.
      Thank you again for your public service.

      @@longbowdt I was one of the early adopters of cai in the early 90’s, RS akimoto was the inventor of the cold air intake we see today, in 98, I was humbled by spoon ek9 with stock box with just a drop in filter, it’s how start to learn more about engineering side of automotive performance instead of just being brainwashed by the manufacturers

      Just an intake and tune isn’t much of a noticeable difference horsepower wise…..Couple it with a catback exhaust, throttle body, and long tube headers with the tune and you’re talking 25-35ish at the wheels.

    Cold air intakes for ecoboosts are a flat out scam. No power gains, and it doesn’t effect performance whatsoever.

      @@buschg7106 You're probably feeling with your butt dyno. The ecu has set ranges that it operates in. Even with more access to air, (which is more than sufficient with the stock airbox) it's simply just going to compensate just get it back into those ranges. You need a tune.

    • @wkndbikeshop
      @wkndbikeshop 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@buschg7106 almost all aftermarket intake is useless, the only real “cold” air intake, the inlet of the intake needs to be outside of the vehicle to draw air from outside of the car… that’s the only way to lower the AIT (air intake temperature) compare to stock AIT. Most people think noise is adding power, but it’s just noise…

  • @Eric79-f7i
    @Eric79-f7i 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The key word is "Tune". No tune, no power to be had from an intake.

    • @norskyver
      @norskyver 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No power to be added period. IAT'S have been proven to heat soak and actually be worse than regular intakes.

    • @Eric79-f7i
      @Eric79-f7i 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@norskyver I can see that. I changed the panel filter to a dry reusable in my stock airbox. That's it. And even that was only because of the cleanabilty. The stock airbox is very well designed, and the engine gets more than enough air.

    • @skipgumphrey9579
      @skipgumphrey9579 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you look at the Injen unit from the video it’s designed like the factory unit in that it’s a sealed unit. The filter can flow more air, and there’s no sharp bends in the induction tube or corrugated area to disturb airflow. Your thoughts are exactly why I looked at the closed Steeda unit and the closed Injen. The Injen didn’t require a tune so I got it because I wasn’t adding a tune until later. My IATs are certainly no higher than stock. The root molded ABS plastic is at least as thick and quality constructed as stock. I’m thinking maybe it added a pony or two, but it DEFINITELY looks better and also was a great time to ditch the gawdawful “sound tube” bs from my car lol
