  • Your metabolism determines how efficiently your body burns calories. As you age, physical and hormonal changes decrease your metabolic rate, slowing down weight loss. There is not much you can do about getting old, but by shifting your eating schedule to earlier in the day, you work with your body, giving it energy when it can burn it and rest when it needs it. In this video, I’ll share how to use early time-restricted eating to give your over 50-year-old body what it needs, so you can get the weight loss you want.

It’s been a slow walk to not eating after 4 for me. I, at first, had hunger pangs so bad I could think of nothing else, so I decided I would drink sugar free cocoa, instead of eating. It really helped. But….Knowing that’s junk, I eased over to having hot tea and now I’ve had a few days of nothing. But I’m hanging in there, having an eating window of 8-4 (2 meals a day) and I will slowly move on to, once in a while, having one meal a day. But slowly easing into it has helped me. 👍🏼

Good information. But to me. I'm all about lowering my blood sugar to lessen my intake of medications for the future and long haul. Type 2 diabetes. A bonus benefit for sort of going low carb is weight loss. Already loss some weight and having a very good steady sugar monitoring level reading. Can't wait for my next major blood work. Another pill in a small bunch of pills to not take. Glucose monitor finger prick kind.

It's much easier to make these time restricted eating changes once you are already fat adapted, having eaten low carb for a while. Once fat adapted, the hunger disappears (or at least lessens considerably) and it's not such a challenge to skip a meal or stop eating earlier in the evening. Overcoming the years long ingrained eating habits is the tough part! I still look for something to eat just because it's a snow day and not because of hunger!

I do 16/8 intermittent at least 4 days a week, but even when I'm not doing that, most of the time I'm done eating by 5:30pm or so. I have noticed in the last couple of months, that if I eat anything late at night (usually because I didn't pay attention to my protein/fiber/fat intact during the day) it's usually in the wee hours of the next morning, and while I always eat something that is carb-less, I still don't feel as well or lose as much weight (normal 3/10s to 1/2 pound per intermittent day) as when I stop eating early and am not hungry until a few hours in my morning the next day. I'm 71 and my mind is sharper if I get to sleep by ten, am up by 5 or 6, and then have an intermittent day. I'm glad to hear there's a research-based reason why this works so well for me, weight-loss-wise.

This makes sense in theory, but why do our bodies crave food at night - even if they're healthy low carb foods and how can we migigate that? THAT'S what's really important. We don't need to be told that it's not good to eat at night. We all know that. It's easy to fast in the morning. We need help not eating at night. It's more than habit. I've been on a paleo diet for years, have lost 50 pounds, and walk and exercise every day. I still need to lose 40 pounds, but I'm blocked by my nighttime food cravings. I can't sleep without a snack. I'm sure that I'm far from alone. How can we address the real challenge with evening fasting without essentially blaming and shaming us for not being strong enough?

Have you thought about adding longevity themes to your videos? Because of 2FD, I started this journey and began following Dr. David Sinclair who also promoted IF and low carb diet. Add in the HIIT training Dr. Keith did and you have most of the prescribed lifestyle for longevity. I know the topic can get a bit wonky with discussion of sirtuins and telomeres, however, explaining science in layman’s terms is your talent. I am sure your fans would love to learn how to live a longer, healthier life free of pain and inflammation ☺️

Fasting can cause hair loss if there was already an underlying mineral and vitamin deficiency or if done too aggressively (especially in women). Find out what vitamins you need for healthy hair and increase those through diet and some supplementation. B vitamins for sure, especially B1 (biotin). Make sure you up your protein intake and maybe slightly increase your eating window.

Having breakfast around 8 am and second meal between 2 and 4 pm has made it easy to adjust without feeling too hungry at any given time. Have dropped 33 lbs since Nov.5. Interesting but very hard to do. Who is hungry in the morning? 🤔 Not me. By skipping breakfast I save alot of time in the morning. Furthermore, my work schedule forces me to have lunch early, between 10.30 and 12.00. Therefore it is most natural to have my first meal on my lunch. I don't think I could eat at 6.30 and then 10.30. 😳 I have dinner around 17-19 depending on my work schedule and family. I avoid snacking in the evening. And I need to have dinner with my foster daughter every day, since that is our only natural meeting.

Question: I eat my last meal of the day by 2 pm. However, I like a small 1/2 glass of red wine before going to sleep. Does this cause a problem?

Would ETRE still be beneficial if weekends you still ate say one meal later? I guess only one way to find out! I enjoy eating out with my husband on the weekend.

Early time restricted eating is ideal but it is better to use any form of time restricted eating is good for improving insulin sensitivity, autophagy, weight loss and cognitive function

So if you shift your 6 hour eating window from 12-6 to 9-3, what are you eating in that window? I love my lunchtime salad, but don’t think I would want to eat it a 9 am? I feel like I would just eat breakfast and lunch. Could you do it 5 days a week to accommodate family considerations?

This works, for me. My best is 23:1, 2pm to 3pm. My metabolism, even when young, never worked efficiently. I will admit, no fun socially.

Love your videos so easy to understand what is going on in my body. I'm trying IF 16:8. I really love my coffee in the morning. Can't get used to drinking it black. I don't use sugar but need some kind of cream that tastes rich and creamy like 1/2 & 1/2. You said I could use 1/2 & 1/2, should I add the MCT and butter to the coffee at the same time or will this break the fast? I also like to put turmeric, cinnamon powder and black pepper. Will adding these break my fast? I also like to use a product called "It Works" Keto Coffee powder in my coffee do you know if this will break my fast? Thanks so much for all you :)

Mct and butter in your coffee don't break a fast, they contain zero carbohydrates. 👍

Good info. And my IF is brunch and early dinner. At least I have that going for me. But no weight loss. In fact, I lost more starting KETO/Mediteranian/IF with 30 carbs brunch and dinner ( including some bread, potatoes, carrots)
The more I go BBBE, restricted to 20 carbs total, more butter, less EVO, limit veg to 1/3 dinner plate, I've stopped losing. Labs still improve,
    I'm going back Mediteranian/KETO.

Hello, I have a question about keto coffee. I am 59 and have been a grazer most of my life, therefore I am used to a snack right before bed. I don't sleep well on an empty stomach. I'm doing an 18/6 fasting. QUESTION IS: can I drink keto coffee before bed if caffeine doesn't bother me? Please let me know. Thanks.

It's been awhile since I posted anything here. I had another bout with cancer and it has spread to my bone and lungs, but miniscule in the lung. Still, I got low and gave up too soon as it had come back after I thought we had it whipped. Nope. So my attitude was, what's the use. I started eating sugar again after I'd been off for 2 years. Wrong thing to do. Medical science has made big strides in treating cancer and I'm coping now with it and treatment is working...again.
So now, I have to get off refined sugar again and like any addiction, it's hard. I only gained 10lbs, but the weight isn't the real concern. It's the sugar. Have cut back a lot, but still not completely off it. Will let you know how it goes later. Right now I'm struggling

It's been a huge struggle for me. I'm 61 and its taken me two years to go from 210lbs down to 145lbs. I work with Amish and they eat a lot of junk food. They stop at the convenience store on the way to the job sight and get breakfast sandwiches then they eat again at 9am and then lunch at noon. It's very hard to resist all the sweets they eat, Cakes, pies, whoopie pies etc.
