Great advice for anyone creating video... May I add one tip... Always record "Room Noise". thirty seconds of the space your in... just in case you need to drop audio from the speaker...& avoid dead air...
This video has WAY too few views for the quality of the advice. Seriously, you lay out REALLY well the biggest issues I see from new youtubers and explain the ways to polish them out of their videos. Fantastic work.
I started using a teleprompter a few weeks ago, and it was a game changer. I make guitar lesson videos. When I'm demonstrating guitar stuff, I can go for a long time without needing to stop, but I really stumble when I'm recording parts where I'm just talking for a long time without playing the guitar. I started using a teleprompter for the longer speaking segments, and it made a HUGE difference. I can knock out those speaking parts faster, and it's a LOT easier to edit that footage.
Probably the best I found on TH-cam which I have been hunting for a long time. I wish you could show the example of the audio cut you talked about. just so we know what you were talking about and how it turned out. makes a lot of difference. BTW, going to stick on to your videos. I like the way you explain and also, super helpful stuff. Thanks a million for this one.
Hi Jeven, thank you for you super detailed tutorials/tips. You’re one of my favs to learn from. I recently finished your Skillshare course and I was great as well. I hope all is well with you.
Dude this was awesome. Could have used this when I did my first 2 vids 😂 they are horrible. Also I started to pick up on all the tricks and yes they make a whole lot of difference. You are awesome Jeven.
Excellent advice Jev. Think Vincent Price, he is still the absolute solid gold of delivery. I always say to my victims is to instruct. If you lose your way in a dialogue, just shut up for a few seconds then start again. Gives the editor space for cut/transition.
I started editing on Avid back in the 1990's ever since then it has been a game of using "cover up the bad sentence" or "cover that out of focus shot with" mostly using b-roll. I find it interesting nowadays how often we see jump cuts and how much they have become the social norm. I have actually started using them in my own edits just because it is so widely accepted now.
Never liked using a teleprompter feels unnatural and has a certain disconnect. Just working on a doc and didn't have a second camera to help with cuts and transitions, surprising how much that helps. Using a stupid amount of broll to help pull this together with graphics containing medical info or to dive a little deeper on what the person has said. This was perfectly timed !
Great stuff Jeven. Thanks for helping us followers on your channek be better film makers. Like the adventure theme of your videos and indoor background.
Nice video, thanks for the tips. Can you clarify your suggestion of overlapping the audio with the fade in/out...Doesn't overlapping the audio shift the entire audio track out of alignment with the video? Sorry for the noob question..
Really good tips. I used the crop in thing in one of my last videos. It made me realize I frame myself too close because the crop in basically had to be just my head.
I'm just now getting into doing this on my other channel. My current channel is transitioning to a new brand and I'll be utilizing it too. Thanks for the tips!
Definitely something I am struggling with early on. I noticed I have been trying to do the videos from beginning to end, and they are coming out a bit sloppy. I think moving forward I am going to start maybe trying to plan out a bit where I am going to cut and maybe record different sections of thought it my videos.
I enjoy your tutorials. They are direct, to the point, and easy to follow. I'm having a problem with the results of Filmora's 13 Silence Detection feature. After I use silence detection and export the video to the timeline, the audio sounds much smoother 🎉🎉. However, I wind up with many small clips that cause distracting jump cuts in the video track 🤔. I want to learn how to use J and L cuts to hide the jarring impact of the jump cuts so that they will be less noticeable and distracting. Please do a tutorial about using Filmora to create J and L cuts while preserving the synchronization of the audio and the video tracks. I can't find anything about this on YT or the Filmora website. Thanks

Thank you for making this.. I think Generation Z is sadly so numb to Jump Cuts and a cut every 3-4 seconds..
It’s become so accepted but I think they should be used less. It’s easy to cover them up. Hope all is well out in NYC
It's called the Gold Fish Cut

I kind of agree but it could be 3 mins rather than 8.
