Parker, what is the name of the comedy short you shot with Tanner Grand featured in this video 5:26 and where can I watch it? movie looks hilarious!!! 😂😂😂
When you're watching the how to videos online, one after another, after another, every now and then you get to one that is so well made you pay attention, notetake nearly every single word from it, watch it twice through, and even send it to a few friends. This is one of those. Very, very well made, excellently presented. Thank you. The hard work and quality of this video has me considering purchasing your larger online class after I'm done with a few others that were worth purchasing.
This site has changed my whole experience in filming. This is the ideal film school for us who can't access a film school but have passion for the industry. Thanks so much. You are such a blessing.
hey Parker, it's me Edward from Budapest, Hungary/Europe - there are no words how thankful I am. You are the one who also gives me new power, energy, motivation at all to do stuffs and you are still the number one for me! I remember your videos have been the very first ones to me which encouraged me to believe in myself and I can watch tons of other tutorials... the way you explain and demonstrate is the best all over the world! I am so thankful for you to share these cut and editing techniques, greetings from the sunny Budapest :)
Just to expand a bit on #5. Its important to think about eye tracing when cutting on action. You want the motion to continue into the new shot as well as the eye moment. That means that the point of focus of the two shots should be at approximately the same place so the eyes don't jump around. I frequently use the flip effect when cutting on action to get the right flow. Just a tip for new editors.
Thanks! They did address that in their music video shot when a guy jumps into the air and they come down, they worked on matching the eye focus. He didn’t mention it here but that’s a great point.
Parker - I've been an editor for 34 years - Your video is one of the best I've seen on this topic and I only wish I had had this to share with editors that were just learning the business. Thanks for putting this together and great job.
Everything about this video is really informative, people like you help us (who can't afford to go to film schools) learn a lot of things about video editing and Cinematography, Thanks Parker.
sometimes when i edit the client will tell me "there is an error here, the audio should start when the clip starts".... i just sigh and do as the client wants.
Thank You Parker. I am an up & Coming Director/Editor these tips are very valuable. I also will be using these tips while creating vlogs & Videos for my TH-cam channel as well. Again Thank You !
Oh bro, you are the KING of video! Shall I call you Sensei or Master Wallbeck? The cuts that stood out to me was the 30 Degree Rule 1:42 and the Cut on Action 5:37 BRILLIANT!
Great video Parker. This is so true. Most pro videos don't have a load of fancy transitions unless necessary to the scene and story. The editing is there to serve the story. Excellent video mate.
This is a great video. I made that same cross fade mistake in the beginning years ago....lol. I already use so many of these, but kinda just learning as I go. LOVE understanding it and picking up some more to help in my edits. THANKS so much for sharing! 😀😃🎨
Thumbs up! This is exactly what I was looking for. Plus I have realised before I even press record I need to know which transitions I gonna use so as to know how I will film.
I watch these videos not because I need to learn something but because the quality and thoroughness is inspiring. I definitely learn something but I’m really just amazed at the quality.
Another one of your tutorials makes it to my "Filmmaking Tutorials" playlist, what a surprise, I didn't expect that at all... (this was the sarcasm cut) 😂
I quite premiere pro just because I can't preview transitions and effects Because as a music video editor "previewing transitions and effects makes editing at least 70% faster

I had not previously seen any value in an L cut, and I hated the jump cut because I found it disturbing. Now I see the L cut's value, and you've shown us how a jump cut doesn't have to be annoying. Thanks for all the other ideas as well.
i think the way youre doing is wrong smartphones will be better in this area.. they will ake a better job in filming ...no professional dslr cameras will work..no quality requies.. everything in future will works on smartphone cameras and the software did you think about ? a wedding movie coud make out a smartphone today..i coud do it if i want...
So I just decided that you are my new favorite :D This is just top Level cutting. Im always reflecting on how videos affects me, and I think its very hard to explain something like this and make it understandable. Really good job
I'm in the Longvierw Film Club, and I share many of your videos with the members because they packed with so many truly helpful tips and ideas! That you so much! BTW I call L cuts 'Leave' cuts because you are leaving audio already playing. And J cuts 'Join' cuts because you are joining audio already in progress. Helps me keep it straight in my head!
When I started editing, I would naturally try to implement J and L cuts before I even knew there was a name for it. It just seemed like something that would transition clips smoothly.
I came here for this comment. I've actually figured this one out myself when I started editing podcasts and sitdowns, and it's an amazing way to keep the pacing going
McKinnon is primarily a photographer, Parker is an actual videographer. Also Parker brings valuable content, after each of his videos you’re left off a bit more savvy. McKinnon is more interested in being an online persona and being a cool hip guy, to me he comes across as fake, it’s why I haven’t been able to follow.

Thanks for this, man. Great video. Really made everything very clear. And the actress was hilarious. LOL

These are some amazing tips that I will use when putting together my DR honeymoon trip I have been putting off due to lack of editing skills.
You are by far one of the best video editors / video editing teachers on TH-cam!!!!!!!!!!!!!
L and J cuts are by far my favorite transitions between scenes. Audio is often underutilized in transitions, and that’s a shame.
Fully agree!
Yep! Audio matters as much if not more than the video when transitioning in many scenarios!
sometimes when i edit the client will tell me "there is an error here, the audio should start when the clip starts".... i just sigh and do as the client wants.
It’s so much more fun to use mix it up!
