Hello, I just wanted to say how much I admire your skill, planning, attention to detail and the care you employ in the approach to your work in this project and with others on your channel. It is obvious that you plan and execute your work with meticulous care, thought and precision, and I really admire that. I came approach your video as I am in the process of embarking on exactly the same project for my lathe. I would be extremely happy if I would approach it and execute with the same level of detail and precision that you have shown. Respectfully yours, Griff
After watching your video i spent now the whole evening building a copy of this handle for my lathe too..i have a 38mm bore so it became quite massive but good to handle . Was very thankful for the vid to check the steps etc... Thanx to Jimmy
Wow, 38mm bore! I can imagine the size and the weight of this handle! It is nice for me to know that my video was helpful to you, thank you for watching it! Cheers
i have only just learned of your channel this evening and have thoroughly enjoyed the videos i have watched so far. your work on this handle is quite beautiful. keep them coming.
+crazymanmichael Thanks for the comment! I really appreciate it. I'm close to finish another project so, soon there will be a new series of videos. All the best! Regards from Greece Jimmy
I apologize for the late reply. Thanks, its one of my favorite lathe tools. Extremely handy for threading operations. Thanks again for your comment, I appreciate it! Warm regards Jimmy
Thank you very much! When I made the video I was using TH-cam's editing, so there was a lot of information in the video, but YT made changes over the years and erased those texts. All the best Jimmy
Very pretty handle you made.I just made one for my mini lathe I used aluminium for the expanding mandrel and cone with 6mm threaded bar through the middle a scrap piece of steel for the arm I used a hacksaw for the slots so not pretty but works very well all the best.
Hello Terry, Thank you very much for your time to watch and your comment, I appreciate it!! Allow me to say that it would been better if you had used a steel pipe for the mandrel instead of aluminum. I know that aluminum it's easy to work with, but it can wear easily especialy with the forces applied when you cut threads. I definitely recommend you to make one out of steel. Thanks again for the comment! Merry Christmas and happy New Year, my friend! Warm regards from Greece Jimmy
Hello Jimmy, as always your videos are very informative and above all of excellent quality. A little information if it's possible. In 1'46 we see a black protection for your bench. I am looking for this kind of article for my Optimum D320 × 920; would you have a link where i could find this article. In advance all my thanks and also my congratulations for your quality work. Have a good day, with my best regards. P. K.
Hello Paul, Many thanks for your kind words, I really appreciate it! You mean the bellows; its really useful, isn't it. You can find it here: www.arceurotrade.co.uk/Catalogue/Machine-Spares/Machine-Bellows They have many different size to choose from, I'm sure that you'll find the right one for your machine. Have a nice day too. Regards from Greece Jimmy
proclaimliberty2000 Hi, Thank you for asking! Only the usual that all mini lathe owners have, not very accurate tailstock alignment! The cross slide leadscrew and nut could been better quality, the same applies for the top slide leadscrew. The disadvantages having a small Optimum lathe like mine is, the absence of the reversing tumbler and the low-high speed quik lever, that you can find in other small lathes as standard feature. On the other hand I must say that the headstock running on two taper bearings and having accuracy of 0.01mm. The 600W DC motor for the size of this lathe I think is ok. Optimum-Machines after sales service is excellent, they support you with any spare part needed fast-speaking from my experience. Bottom line, for the money they could make it a little better with a few more features. Thanks again! All the best Jimmy
***** Thanks for the reply. Were you not able to get the tailstock to align properly? Just trying to get a feel for the quality of the machines as I can't find much online. I'm looking at buying the Optimum TU2304 which is a little bigger with 750 watt motor. Weighs 250 pounds. Variable speed is not available in the USA but only the 6 speed belt change. Just out of curiosity, have you had any problems with the variable speed system?
proclaimliberty2000 Hi my friend, I manage to resolve the tailstock issues! this the link: th-cam.com/video/N6fIAYgAY_o/w-d-xo.html you can watch it if you want. The TU2304 it is a nice machine and it has the ability to cut left hand threads by only removing a gear from the banjo! Ask the supplier for more info: www.ldsindustries.com/optimum-products.html I have the lathe from 2012 and I didn't had any problem with the variable speed! Stay tuned in the channel if you want. I'm working with a friend on a new project with a variable drive system.....hope everything goes well on this project...anyway will see? Thanks again for your comment! Wish you the best Jimmy

Lovely Job as usual
Any complaints with your Optimum lathe? I know their on the pricey side compared to other Chineese made units.
