  • Youth across the nation are falling victim to gun violence in multiple ways but don't get it twisted: everyone has a part to play in engaging children of color to see their own self-worth. Sherman Patterson shares his heartfelt story of learning to connect with neighborhood kids by looking beyond the gang facade in an effort to spark a change that will save lives.
Sherman Patterson wants to end the culture of gun violence in Minneapolis. An audacious goal, but few are better suited for the job than Sherman. A public safety policy aide for former Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak. A community liaison for Minneapolis Police Chief Janeé Harteau. A resident of a Minneapolis neighborhood notorious for gun violence. He has built the connections and earned the respect, both in the corridors of power and on the street corners that are necessary to tackle this issue. Sherman focused his Bush Fellowship on devising and implementing a wide range of strategies to combat gun violence in our communities.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

The problem is culturally not mechanically based.
Blaming a machine is counter productive to his goal.

Guns are violent!?! That's news to me. I guess my guns are lazy pacifists. They make me clean them, and they miss even when I aim! Where can I get some of these "Gun Violence" guns?
