I’ve been in it 3 times!! It’s very interesting. The antique shop was the tread wheel building is amazing. I will have to visit again. I’ll be looking through new eyes! Great video thanks!
Thanks Andy really appreciate you tuning in and commenting. It is an amazing place. I really like the way the prison has just been left completed unchanged since the last prisoners were released. Very rare to find a building such as this nowadays. I visited the antiques shop too definitely worth a look. Below the antiques shop is a cellar area which were previously cells too I was told - unfortunately I was unable to access this area. I actually caught a whispery voice when I was in the main prison building alone too. It’s highlighted in the video link below in case you are interested Voices From Beyond -The Evidence So Far -Thetford Warren Lodge, Walsingham Bridewell & Santon Church th-cam.com/video/Yzfad0s_i7U/w-d-xo.html - thanks again for your interest and taking the time to comment
Hi, just a quick question. Would I need to phone ahead to get access to the prison for a look around or are they quite relaxed about it? It really does look fascinating.
@@willmcallister8464 hi, the key is with the tourist information office. Ask them for it, they hand it over for a small deposit and let you explore the place at your leisure. Then return the key and get the deposit back!!!!
Hi Will you won’t need to phone ahead, normally just asking for the key and showing a genuine interest in the history is enough - they will understandably also ask for a deposit when handing the key out 🙂
Cheers Mick - really enjoyed exploring this old prison. I was taken aback of how well preserved it was - love the way it’s just been left frozen in time since the last prisoners were released over 150 years ago
Thanks so much for tuning in again Sophie - really enjoyed exploring this old Bridewell Prison - incredible to think the solitary confinement cell has survived in-tact and unchanged for all these years
@@HauntedandAbandonedNorfolk Yes, it's amazing it's survived unchanged for so long. It seems so cruel that people were sent to solitary confinement for just trying to keep their spirits up by just singing or whisling.
Thanks alot for taking the time to comment it’s much appreciated 🙂 - this was a great explore - pleased I had my torch with me - was really dark inside particularly the solitary confinement cell - definitely an eerie place
Thanks for this. I was shown the prison years ago but wasn’t sure it was still there as I can’t remember how we got to it. So glad it has survived untouched. I hope to revisit someday.
Thanks Linda - this place is amazing - hope it remains the same way for many years to come - an incredible time capsule - it’s quite well hidden fortunately 🙂
Cheers guys - appreciate you tuning in all the way over from the USA 🇺🇸 - so many historical places in England to explore, we are pretty spoilt for choice here 🏴 🙂
Thanks Luke - was such an interesting place. Definitely felt eerie when the door closes behind you and you’re left inside alone. It is a dark and silent place. Had a couple of people contact me since this video went up and told me of some strange experiences they’ve had in the prison when looking around. One lady contacted me who’s x3 great grandmother was actually imprisoned here for murdering her husband and father many years ago. She claimed to have a strange experience near the staircase when she visited, which she thought could have been an attempt of contact from her long deceased x3 great grandmother.
Thanks very much - really appreciate the comments. Bit of a different explore to my usual places but really enjoyed looking around this location - eerie old place 🙂
WOW again Edward, couldn't even imagine being locked up in there so cold, and the dark room ouch!! For silly things like singing that's crazy, but it has stood the test of time that's AMAZING!! Thanks Edward brilliant.👍👍
Thanks so much Lynne - always appreciate your complimentary comments 🙂. It is pretty incredible it’s survived relatively unaltered since the prisoners were moved to Norwich back in 1861
This is one of my favourite places to date which I’ve visited - when I first got inside I was just taken aback - it is a real time capsule and virtually unchanged from when the last prisoners left 150 years ago - once given the key I had the whole building to myself - it is rarely visited even now - i was told I was possibly the first to visit after lockdown so it had been sealed for many months prior to my visit - I caught a disembodied voice in here saying “come back” as I exited one of the cells - this EVP features in one of my other videos - Voices From Beyond -The Evidence So Far -Thetford Warren Lodge, Walsingham Bridewell & Santon Church th-cam.com/video/Yzfad0s_i7U/w-d-xo.html
Is this open to the public or on private property? I love exploring my home county of Norfolk and want to see more history like this. I know of some cool locations myself
Hi - you will need to pay for entry to the abbey grounds first and then go to the gift shop to ask for the key to the Bridewell prison for which they will ask for a deposit. It’s up to the discretion of the key holder at the gift shop as to whether they hand out the key out or not. As long as you show a genuine interest in the history you should be fine - I wouldn’t go with anymore than 2 people though - I personally visited alone which I think helped
