I'm 71 years old and had gotten two bridges on both sides of upper jaw due to jaw surgery when I was 56 years old which caused a gap on both sides of upper jaw! Would not recommend Jaw surgery to anyone! And yes your oral surgeon or your dentist sometimes does not explain the whole procedure and any complications that might happen so do your own research as much as possible! My left side bridge has done beautifully for the past 14 years and have not had any problems, the right side from the time he had put it in looked gray on the gum line area so proceeded to get infected the following year and again the year after that so I was rushed into emergency surgery to have a root canal done on the tooth that had been shaved off too far, then the following year had another infection in the root canal tooth so I opted for them to pull it and get a partial because I did not like the thought of a titanium screw going up into my jaw and then becoming infected! Oral surgery, bone grafting, dental implants all have their pros and cons just as he had said, some of us do okay with it and some do not! Weigh the costs! I am now opting for another dental bridge on the side that I had so much trouble originally but shaving off good teeth opposed to a major dental bone graft with general anesthesia, bruising, swelling and pain and a foreign metal screw going up into my jaw, cost, side effects of general anesthesia and pain meds that are all toxic to your body! The bridges sound a lot safer and better to me!
I had an implant done about 5 years ago and I thought there would not be bone loss, but the tooth very recently started moving I had some x-ray done and it shows a lot of bone loss all around the implant. Because of this I am going the bridge route.
My second molar implant was done 2-3 years ago and now it’s hurting and moving. The entire process took over a year to complete! Even with dental coverage, it was expensive. So now, assuming the implant needs to be removed, I’m in a quandary about getting a bridge or going through the whole implant process. Not being a great flosser, it seems I’m damned either way and will most likely have the implant redone, if necessary and if possible...☹️
I just had 3 implants placed and it was incredible and painless. I wasn't awake either - they gave me some pills and i don't remember anything lol Chicago Dental Arts if anyone is curious. @@EnSabahNur-ir5mw Even though I had an implant placed 5 years ago it became loose and it revealed that there was bone loss around the screw of the implant. I had to have it removed because it didn't help anymore and caused more discomfort. Then I read that it does happen and it is quite common, and that implants last for 15years I was told.
When I had my bridge done almost 15 years ago, I had no idea that "prepping" the teeth involved was actually destroying two perfectly good teeth, I was so mad, in fact every time I think about it, I get mad! Now the same tooth on the other side is loose and needs to be pulled, but I don't have enough bone to support an implant, so I'll simply have it pulled and see how that works, thankfully it's the 2nd to last tooth on upper left, but I can't chew on that side anyway!
The exact same thing happened to me. I had one failed root canal (the crown came off and the tooth chipped in the process) and couldn't be saved. My dentist offered a bridge, I was 22 years old and didn't know I needed to shave down two perfectly healthy teeth. Now I have two missing teeth. I get so angry, the dentist assumed I couldn't afford implants, so he never mentioned that as an option.
My decision is pretty easy. I have 2 back molars that were extracted, one on each side. 2 implants would cost me around $10K and a two tooth bridge will cost me around $1400 total. BRIDGE IT IS!
My dentist recommended a bridge to replace one upper first molar, because there was not enough bone for an implant. I went to a maxillo-facial surgeon, who did a sinus lift with bone graft. After that surgery I could have an implant. It all went well and I recommend the procedure. It just takes longer.
So nice to hear you were able to go this route. Long term, it will be great to have such a stable tooth replacement that feels more like your own tooth

Is it true that if you get dental bridges then your face will start to sag and sink due to the loss of bone tissue and an implant may help restore the sagging instead?
I had a dental bridge installed about a year ago. I’m hereditally missing a tooth from each side of my front teeth, and at first I was concidering implants. However the dentist told me that I can’t have ones, because the gaps are too small so I was recommended dental bridge instead. So far I’ve been pretty satisfied with them, and am just happy that I got rid of the plastic disc thing, which was meant to be a temporary solution anyway 😌
I'm about to get bridges ..and I'm paying all my life savings to do it .and some say you have to maintain bridge doing some medical procedures once in a month or something ..is that true ? If it is then how much would it cost to do it once coz I'm running out of all money😂

I was just told the same thing so need gum graft first then bridge for one missing tooth on front. Not a candidate for implant. I hope my bridge turns out as well as yours.
Hi, I am proceeding with dental bridge as suggested by dentist for mother. I am spending huge money for process 2 lacs inr. Is there any danger or risk of dental bridge in future, my mother is afraid or other option denture is best. I cant afford dental implants which is more than double cost as of bridge
Today I went in to get my two permanent bridges installed on my lower mouth. So far, they feel great. They had to shaved two teeth on each side for support and they just feel natural. I didn’t know much about implants but didn’t like the idea of having metal screws in my mouth for some reason. My dentist told me to make sure I floss underneath the teeth and to brush twice a day. I’ll do my cleaning and maintenance part, so hoping they last some 20 years at least 😊 I don’t mind paying for two new bridges in 20 years, my hope is that the shaven teeth 🦷 hold up good over time! 🙏 🍀
The biggest con about a Implant is needing a Bone Graft, Am getting my Bone graft nextweek, This will be along process but am sure it's will be worth it.

Thanks for this. Good to see a dentist agree with my rationale for why I'm opting for an implant vs bridge. My question tho is, is an implanted molar(#46) more risky than a bridge for somebody who grinds his teeth at night? Also, due to heavy infection/bone loss on and around the extracted #46, it was necessary to do a bone graft.
Bruxism can definitely affect your overall outcome so its worth having a chat with your personal dentist to see if they can equilibrate your bite or offer a night guard of some kind. Thanks for watching and good luck!
Thank you for this information! To make it cost effective, can one get the sinus lift then wait to get the implant rather than paying total out of pocket in one procedure?
Can bridges be removed few years later on when one wants to upgrade to implants? Does bone grafting have to done during extraction day or can it be done a year or a later time ? Does the body act well with other material for bone grafting besides your own bone from your body being used ?
Usually a bridge can be replaced with an implant. However the teeth with crowns on either side of the missing tooth will most likely need new crowns as well.
Do not be afraid of bone graft or zirconia implant. It look scary on youtube, but in reality, it is easier done than drilling for cavities or filling or root canal. If the oral surgeon is good, he will do bone graft or implant in 15mn. Piece of cake for him. I chose cow bone instead of cadaver bone. You tell the oral surgeon what you want. I did not want the bone of dead person in my mouth. And i had zirconia implant 2 months ago by the same dr. After 4 months waiting for healing, i will have zirconia abutment and crown.. They will use carcon fiber screw to screw my abutment to the implant. But they will have to use cement to cement my new crown ( tooth) to the abutment. I do not like cement because it is chemical that leak in your blooddtream. No choice. Good luck.

So did I, two years ago. But, now it’s infected and loose and most likely will need to be redone. Be sure to floss well as deep as you can go , getting under the crown, the best you can. I’d slide the floss out when done to prevent pulling on crown. This advice was given to me by my oral surgeon...

I'm missing 1 of my front top teeth. Dentist recommends a 4 unit bridge to cover the gap. It will cost me $3214 with insurance. After careful research I found out that he will have to grind down 2 perfectly good teeth to use as anchor points. I'm not completely sold on that idea. Also bridges don't last very long meaning I will go broke every few years replacing this. Really tempted to just live with the missing tooth....

Water flossers are awesome but next time you go in to the dentist, make sure they or the hygienist shows you how to use a floss threader to get under the bridge. All mouths and bridges can get decay if not kept clean. There are also videos around TH-cam showing you how to use a floss threader that might be helpful
I have 25% bone loss in my lower jaw. I have four teeth on the bottom, in the middle that are loose. My dentist is recommending removing the four teeth and putting in a bridge at a cost of $8,500! Besides cost, my other concern is ruining two perfectly good teeth that the bridge will be anchored to. I asked the dentist about implants and he said they may or may not work. Does it sound like bone grafts would help me if I go for the implants? Thanks.
I've had a bridge for over 20 years. Yes, you will get a gap under the bridge due to bone and gum shirkage. You will probable have to replace the birdge like I did ever 7 to 10 years because the gap underneath gets annoying. Especially for me when it was in the front and the gap would cause me to speak weird.
That's definitely something that each individual person would need to talk to their dentist or periodontist about. The screws of the implants act like artificial roots and often times bone grafting can often be done if there is bone loss.
Hello I recently had a 3 unit bridge on lower incissors , I was missing one congentially . My dentist did root canals on my two abutment teeths which were perfectly fine(without any cavity) before cutting them and installing bridge . But I am reading online that it's not compulsary to do . So I am wondering why did he did that , Are there some advantages of it if we do the RCT before ? or did he just do it to make some money ? I am really feeling bad knowing I have destroyed my other fine teeths as well. Would RCT treated teeth cause problem in future ?
As long as you are having an orthodontist do the treatment, everything will turn out nicely. The roots of the teeth on a bridge can move through the bone just like real teeth. Good luck!
Is it normal with Bridges to have so much saliva spitting through them as you're talking? My dentist is saying what it's normal you know you have to have some space in between the gums and the bridge to clean them and I'm thinking we'll I don't think it should have so much space to it to where I'm talking to someone and I'm actually spitting in their face because the saliva's coming right through the gaps in them.

Specialized dentists (oral surgeons, pediatric dentists, endodonist) are ** filthy rich **. i don't think most people understand how well these people do financially. This makes it very hard for the patient to discern the truth. All the oral surgeons recommend the most expensive procedure. Hmmm... Do they care about whats best for the patient or their bankroll? What about the risks of anesthesia, which is needed for implants? Maybe your oral surgeon has your best interests at heart.... or maybe he likes working banker hours and living behind the gates. Good luck out there. It's not that easy to find the the right answers. These people are extrememly wealthy and their incentives are not aligned with the patients at all.
In any industry you will find people or businesses that chase money ...but there are really GREAT dental professionals out there that have extremely high overheads to run their practices and they care deeply for the long term well being of their patients. It's always a good idea to get a couple opinions anytime you feel uncomfortable with recommendations or if you don't feel the pros and cons of each treatment plan is presented to you in a way that you understand completely.
For front teeth do implants eventually cause gums to recede and then looks bad because you can see where it’s screwed in? That’s the reason I don’t want to get implants for my missing lateral incisors
Every case is different. That's a great question for your dentist and periodontist that specializes in implant cases. Often times, they can do bone grafts to make sure the height of the bone is high enough to look natural
That depends on your location, the type of materials they use and whether you are taking advantage of insurance benefits. It's really best to call a local dentist and get an exam so they can treatment plan for your specific situation. A three unit bridge could cost a few thousand dollars to replace one tooth.

As you can imagine, that kind of recommendation can only come from a dental professional that has all of your records, history and imaging. If you feel like you need a second opinion, that might help you make a final decision.
briefly: crowns are like 'hats" or "caps" that cover individual teeth. Bridges replace missing teeth by connecting multiple teeth, spanning across empty spaces. Dental implants are man-made teeth that have threaded "roots" anchored right into the bone. . .

As you can imagine, the only way to give advice on dental treatment is to see a patient in person and have all images and Xrays available to review. Oftentimes, bone grafts are done if someone doesn't have enough already to hold the implant in place. Dentists/ oral surgeons may in fact recommend a bridge for now if you need to save up for a most costly investment of implants.
There are a lot of factors that come into play that will determine how long a bridge can last. Dental hygiene habits, diet, occlusion and medications / medical history just to name a few
Yeah, but also no one explains that you have to go on regular check-ups for the implant, too. And that there's a good chance your body rejects it. And that there's a third option, a bridge that is less invasive to the adjacent teeth (adhesive bridge), which is a middle ground and might be a decent option for certain patients... each solution has its pros and cons, I just don't like how the rave now is all about the implants. Obviously they are a good solution, but not for everybody.
@@ModaBulgara Great point. Routine checkups and cleanings are essential for anyone with teeth really and the frequency can be determined case by case as well. Even denture patients should have their mouth and appliance examined on a regular schedule.
That's definitely something that your dental team should discuss. The benefits and cost for each option are an important part of treatment planning. One tip would be to go into any dental visit with a list of questions.
There are risks and benefits to each procedure. The best long term solution to a lost tooth is an implant because it will help maintain bone levels but it’s up to your dental team to help each person figure out the best option for them
@@shidesharolkar7488 That all depends on what the condition of the teeth, gums and bone are when it is places as well as habits, risk for decay and overall way the teeth fit together. Some dentists would say a 5-10 year average but that is definitely something your own dental team would need to answer for each patient and their unique situation. Dental pros often compare teeth to automobiles. Wear and tear, maintenance and other factors will determine how long they last ;)

@@EnSabahNur-ir5mw That is correct!
We are sorry you didn't get a good understanding of the process for placing a bridge. Are you able to get a bone graft?
@@BURSTOralCareTV the sinus lift alone for me out of pocket is $1800. I want implant but the cost is outrageous even with insurance. Sad.

The bone grafting materials are typically biocompatible and safe but it's always up to the dentist to choose the best route for each patient
No choice.

That's true.... with implants they don't tell you that you have to get them professionally cleaned at least once a year so they don't get bacteria around them and get infected...this also is more money being paid out just to stay healthy.
@@kathygehres7172 it's best to get a denture
Hello! I am 20years old. I don't have front teeth both upper and lower since birth. I want to get implant but the doctor said that i don't have enough bone so the implants may fail and suggested for fixed bridges and has told that after 10-15 years I can get implant. Is it possible for me to get implant now or after 15 years. Will the bridge cause further bone loss Or would help in increase bone size?
As you can imagine, the only way to give advice on dental treatment is to see a patient in person and have all images and Xrays available to review. Oftentimes, bone grafts are done if someone doesn't have enough already to hold the implant in place. Dentists/ oral surgeons may in fact recommend a bridge for now if you need to save up for a most costly investment of implants.
No one told me a bridge has to be replaced
I just got my bridge implanted today. My dentist didn't go over the pro's and con's, I wish they would as part of the procedure.
That's definitely something that your dental team should discuss. The benefits and cost for each option are an important part of treatment planning. One tip would be to go into any dental visit with a list of questions.
How was it I'm planning to get a bridge too
Me to
Hy doctor, what is the validity of bridges and implant
There are risks and benefits to each procedure. The best long term solution to a lost tooth is an implant because it will help maintain bone levels but it’s up to your dental team to help each person figure out the best option for them
@@BURSTOralCareTV durability of bridges??
@@shidesharolkar7488 That all depends on what the condition of the teeth, gums and bone are when it is places as well as habits, risk for decay and overall way the teeth fit together. Some dentists would say a 5-10 year average but that is definitely something your own dental team would need to answer for each patient and their unique situation. Dental pros often compare teeth to automobiles. Wear and tear, maintenance and other factors will determine how long they last ;)
Uhhh is not ???
Is implant painful?
Isn't most dental work?
typically having an implant placed is much more comfortable than having a tooth extracted and the soreness is usually controlled well with an over the counter pain reliever if you need one at all.
Yes I had an implant done and specifically when the post was put in the pain was quite excruciating and the implant ended up failing anyways.
@@jaylynashley04What did you have done after the implant failed? Did you get a bone graft before getting the implant?
You need to clean up that reverb. It is really bad.
Thanks for watching and paying attention to detail. Dr Shaun was filming in a big room with some echo and typically does not use a microphone.
So We do not understand ahh.
It's the sound of fresh breath!!
private having a bridge 4 front teeth I paid 3,400 no wonder you dentists are loaded lol..
Dentistry is definitely an investment but as you can imagine, the overhead of running a dental practice is quite expensive as well.
I paid $4,000 for mine some dentist can rip you off I do it because they know they can.
Why do educated indivodual professionals always waste space with Sooo.???
It's one of the most common pause words... What's yours?
You should get to a insulated room. Bad volume. Bad mic. Echo , Echo , Echo
Thank you for the feedback. Since this video was made, Dr. Shaun now has been using a mic when he has the time during his busy schedule to set it up :)
