you guys have 0 idea what your talking about. As a somalian myself from the somaliland region if somaliland gain recognition there will literally be instant civil war in somaliland itself....
HALF of somaliland doesnt want to break off with somalia there literally was a minor war in somaliland recently over the main clan that controls somaliland (issaq) vs the other minor tribes which banded up to form a collision against somaliland(SSC khatomo) somaliland will literally devolve into chaos if it is given recognition.
you might be wondering why does half of somaliland not want to be part of somaliland? Somaliland's borders are based off the british colony and is not a real border which distinguishes people. The SSC regions are closer to puntland than to the rest of somaliland and they do not want to be separated from somalia.
somaliland isnt a "beacon of stability" in the east african region they're really just lucky that they are far away from the rebels and terrorist in the south. In fact the same level of "stability" is found in the other northern region of puntland which is right next to Somaliland. and even at that the south has become wayyy more stable in recent years due to the terrorist group al shabbab losing most of there territory there basically a dead group at this point.
this is a turning point for somalia and it can become more stable it this plan doesnt go through.

Personally I think Somaliland getting recognized is a great thing.
I constantly hear how Africa is in a bad state because of the remanants of colonialism, drawing general borders without any consideration about the ethnic makeup of those areas.
The recognition of Somaliland would be a step in the direction of fixing those arbitrary borders.
If it succeeds (which is likely considering they've been basically autonomous for years now) it shows that this is the way to fix these problems.
If it fails it at least dispels the mith that borders where the real issue why Africa is stuck in the past.
Also let's remember that Egypt is now trying to use Somaliland as a kudgel to beat Ethyopia with in the discussion of water rights. Removing it from the equation will force Egypt to stop treating the Nile as if it was it's personal property despite them holding only a small part of its tail end.

I am a Somaliland citizen. My country has been independent for 34 years and has a fully functioning government with its own constitution, executive branch, legislative council, and judiciary, as well as a council of elders. We also have defined borders.
Our country is strategically located, as can be seen on the map, and we have the potential to establish significant partnerships with major global powers, particularly Western nations.
    We deserve international recognition.

Yes. Allahumabarik!!! You explained it perfectly well walalo. Somaliland has been independent. The people (not all) in this comment section are clearly confused about the difference between recognition and independence. What we need is to regain our international re-recognition; we don't need independence as we've already been independent.

You can kiss Somaliland's butt by saying their independent and other countries wish they could recognize them idc but at least be open minded enough to highlight the large disputed territory that Puntland and now the newly formed Khatumo State of Somalia controls in the north at the expenses of Somaliland 💀

The people of the republic of Somaliland regained their freedom not independence in 1991 as Somaliland is a de jure country that gained its independence on June 26 1960 as the first East African country to do so. The government of the republic of Somalia and Mogadiscio control over Somaliland was never “de jure” or legal. The union was never ratified, the constitution was rigged by the Italians who not only were the ones that wrote it but certified the referendum of 1961. The coup of 1969 only solidified the reality that Somaliland was under occupation
There was always feeling of disenchantment that would lead to the 1961 attempt by the Somaliland camel corps, the occasional riots and the demand for freedom was consistent.

Somaliland remains internationally recognized as part of Somalia, and no foreign power, including the United States under Trump or any other leader, can change that. Recognizing a clan-based state with an estimated population of 1.5 million or less undermines Somalia's sovereignty, which is protected by international law. Somalia's territorial integrity and unity are non-negotiable, and no country has the authority to violate it. If you think such a wish could become reality, it's nothing more than a dream. Trump couldn’t even solve domestic issues like homelessness, let alone challenge Somalia’s sovereignty or violate international law.

That, in addition to the fact that Somaliland's borders are the same colonial borders that were there when both British Somaliland and Italian Somaliland gained independence in 1960.
