Christopher Alvarez, 24, from New York, believes he is the oldest person in the world with his condition - a rare form of dwarfism called Thanatophoric dysplasia type II. Christopher wasn’t expected to live past the age of five but despite doctors’ grim prognosis, he has exceeded all expectations and recently graduated from Columbia University with a masters in journalism. As well as working the news beat, Christopher also uses his journalistic skills to help him track down and meet some of his favourite celebrities, including Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Jennifer Lopez and Selena Gomez.

The disability certainly doesn't affect his brain. And sis is going to medical school. Hats off to Mama. She raised her kiddos well.
A lot of people think disability automatically means they are cognitively impaired, as well, which is really frustrating as a disabled person. In fact, some conditions actually cause a higher IQ. I had a 4.0 GPA in community college and 3.4 GPA at university. Many others with my condition also excel academically.

Despite his condition, he did what he wanted to do with his life. For that alone, I have great respect for this man.

My best friend is the oldest living person with her disease. She just turned 75 on Christmas Eve. She has a certain type of muscular dystrophy that effects her hips badly she has been in a wheelchair since her 20s. The Drs told her parents she would not live out of her 20s. You are amazing and you can make it to 75 too!

@@dorisf7368 yes I do know who they are but I don’t know how I feel about them I think they give a fake view of handicapped people I don’t know if I believe their relationship is real I’m pretty sure it’s for the cameras and before he had this girlfriend he had one just like her. It’s almost like they did a casting call for his new pretty girlfriend and that is totally unrealistic disingenuous and fake to tell disabled people they can do that too.
@@samsalamander8147 Sam, they don't say that all disabled can do what they did. But they are good ambassadors to proof that disabled people are as intelligent as others and among them can be authors and studied ones and even very happy intermariages. I am sure they have changed a lot of peoples minds about disabled persons and made them have a second look. They are now making a lot of money because they went public, but first of all because they are funny and positive.

I hope he lives a long, fulfilling and relatively comfortable life. The bright side of his condition is that despite all his physical handicaps, he’s all there mentally. This is just…. a normal guy, stuck in a body that doesn’t work properly.
He already had a long,fulfilling life considering he is the oldest with his condition.

This Christopher Alvarez guy himself said nothing inappropriate happened wit him and Drake and he was there that night at 3am at the hotel listening to new beats with him. If he himself said nothing happened, sounds like social media at this point is going next level with a smear campaign against drake no?
His mom reminds me of my mom. I've had over 74 surgeries (I'm 40 now) and she stayed with me for every single surgery. She kept better records than the doctors and nurses. She's, literally, saved my life several times. She died when I was a senior in high school (1999) and that first surgery without her was difficult. Luckily my dad stayed with me.
I'm glad to see so many people praising his mom and sister. I couldn't have done anything without my family. I can remember being in the hospital when I was younger and so many little kids weren't lucky enough to have a parent that could be with them the entire time. Most of them was because they had jobs or other kids to take care of. But there were a few that I would hear the nurses telling my mom about, that their parents would only come to get them and even then, they weren't really that interested in doing their after care or anything.
My mom always said that her daughter wouldn't think of herself as disabled and, while I know I am when I think about it, I don't consider myself disabled. I can do just about anything anyone else can.

When Christopher gleefully mentioned rubbing it in the doctor’s face that he lived, I cracked up! I don’t know what I can say that hasn’t already been said about his spirit, his mom’s strength and love… hats off to you, Christopher. Hats off to you.

I'm an RN and work with a 13 year old girl with Type 1, and her condition is severe enough to need 24/7 ICU-level care. Her parents were told she would live for only minutes, but she kept on going. It's amazing seeing Christopher living his life more normally, as my patient has a feeding tube, can't tolerate sitting for too long, and is around the mental development level of a 4-5 year old. She's died and been revived twice but is thankfully doing much better now. She's literally the happiest kid I know and is adored by her family and us nurses. She and Christopher are incredibly strong and fight through many more challenges than this video covers. I wish him and his family many more healthy years ahead!

It's easy to see how he's defied the odds of his condition. He obviously has a strong will which is bulstered by his positive outlook on life. As a disabled individual myself, I know it can be difficult sometimes to keep that positivity and drive but it really does make a difference. It impacts both your mental and physical health. I hope he keeps up the great work and keeps defying those odds.

I have a great nephew who wasn't expected to leave the hospital after he was born; well, he turned 8 this year. He was born October of 2013, with Heterotaxy with right isomerism
(I think I have that right) and chromasomal abnormalities. There are many things that are beyond his capabilities, but that happens with many of us. He has a happy life, goes places with the rest of his siblings and his family ;laughs, loves, acts silly, and gets into mischief. He has 5 siblings (latest was born this year) and they love him to pieces. Life isn't easy sometimes, but thats another thing thats true for many of us. He is just such a warm, joyful, loving little soul, and truly such a gift ❤️

That's a bit of a salty attitude, I mean, why can't he just be happy that he made it and move on? a doctor's duty is to tell you, in his experience, what's going on. He cannot guess miraculous cases like this guy that defied all odds.

Good on him, I don’t think I’ll ever achieve half as much what his done already, I’m hoping his able to do anything he wants and go anywhere he wants
Unironically lives richier and more interesting life than 99% of healthy people. I can only be happy for him.
What a legend and everything he has done and achieved in his life is spectacular.
