leave the other nonrun through pipe for connecting to the stone ejection ... then it can be on a separate line and only needs the one filter to feed all of the dump connectors you want connected
look at Spider Errol's pump house idea ... makes more sense and fits both aliens and can be decorated to fit star wars as well ... as per my comment there
Build a "pump house" at the bottom of the pipes to hide the offset and act as a support for the vertical segment. Could also act as an emergency resupply station for stranded engineers.
thought the same, just a box would suffice i guess... or you kinda "embed " the pipes into the mountain maybe? not completely... only smoothing the channel
A Interaction for the Interaction God, a Comment for the Comment Throne, for the Almighty Algorithm
This^^
I was thinking pump house and then an excuse to drill more holes in the cliff, some access shaft type thing on one side, and the pump house turns 2 pipes into 1 pipe that goes into the cliff. Personnel elevator on one side, pipes on the other :p
for the vertical section. "band" the pipes together with 1 block thick support running back into the cliff then have a gusset running from the cliff to the 2/3rd point of the straight 1 thick block support. could even be done with a hinge and switch to small grid.
10:13 "If we just about double the size" XD, I love it!
For the pipes:
1) The first corner you made, keep running the line straight from there and make it turn later. That way you only need one corner and not two. Plus it looks cleaner.
2) where the pipes coming from the base to meet the cliff side: put a large belt there! You can have all the pipes from the base meet into the top of it and pull any number of pipes out of the side as you need when you need!!
you know what would be a good idea, for the welding / drilling ship make the head assembly units removable, sort of like a skid steer you could use make them and have stands for them and simply disconnect, and fly over to another head and attach it. hope that makes sense.
It is a great idea which does not work well in SE unfortunately :) Much easier to just build a few ships.
@@andyblondyn1898 ah well to bad would have been neat it it worked
@@Steve-od2di I mean, it does work but the ships with it are not small. It is far easier to build the "base" ship, print it 3 times or more and have the drill, grinder and fight version.
great idea, then its like the header from a Farming-Combine!
You could do it with merge blocks
Welcome back hope your family stuff taking care was succesful and without a hitch😊
Looking after a sick relative .. all good :)
Glad you are back, and everything is good with the family. As for securing the pipelines, I like your "Ice Anchors", but the vertical sections on the rock wall needs a couple more "straps". Coming from a construction background, I can tell you that; if you are going for a realistic aesthetic, you're gonna want at least 3 anchors on the vert and 2 on the section crossing that little valley at the bottom. My personal favorite would be a canter-levered piece of Uni-strut to secure them. I'm sure you'd have no problem coming up with something using the blocks in the "Structure" section of the G menu. All the Beams and Truss pieces would be great for that.
Yeah a few blocky securing structures, and a few scaffolding structures between them.
10:06 UH OH!!! Did Skye say “DOUBLE IT”??? MWAHAHAHAHA
A cool option is to keep the pipe where it is adding extended supports to the cliff, but with this. You can add an access staircase or ladder, so if you run out of hydrogen, you have the option to use this access to climb back up
kind of like an emergency escape route but use it to get up rather than down
A small pump house at the base of your dangly pipes would "anchor" things to the cliff. You can pimp it out inside as well as have access up the mountain for the next time you run out of hydrogen 😂
I am LOVING this series Skye, keep it up, you've gotten me bitten again by the SE bug.
Great episode, maybe put a single block between the the down pipes, with a single bracket attached to the wall maybe 3 or 4 times on the way down?
I'm worried that someone who can bullseye womp rats in their T-16, could drop a couple of proton torpedoes down the core.
Started watching because of timberborn. Ended up binging space engineers after because I love the way you play games and how interesting you make it to watch.
Never watched a space engineer playthrough before this. Now I'm hooked and can't wait for the next episode of this. 😭
Yay.. the saga continues 🎉🎉🎉
Skye, you can create a pump house / conveyor access port down on the ice and use hinges and run your pipes at an angle to your base so you don't have to zig-zag to get where you want to go.
Some people use merge blocks and connectors to make a multi tool ship. So you can switch between drills, grinders , and welders depending on the rig you wish to connect to your ship.
"I don't want to do this again." I can dang well tell you, you're going to do it a second if not a third time 😂
An aesthetic thought for you. Something I saw Splitsie do was to use put hinges one the ends of stretches of conveyor tubes to let him lay the conveyors on an angle.
You also have to make the expansion joints for the pipes for each straight. I mean, not really, but it would 1) add enormously to the immersion. 2) be visually more interesting than just a straight pipe. 3) be a good solution to make an underpass if you ever decide to go full Space Engineers and make a lift from your base to the ground level for rovers. 4) give you much better excuse for jokes, as that is an inherent quality of bendy pipes over straight ones.
A day without one of your videos is just TORTURE. Thank God you returned.
@SkyeStorme For the connection of the vertical pipes to the mountain: Use the new Truss Pillars from the pipe to just before the mountain, and anchor them with the Cylindrical Column (turned sideways). I think that'd look slick.
A trick I've found for those long distance strings of blocks for alignment is to use solar panels, they're 4 times as long, so it goes much faster.
This is looking awesome, i love the alien reference as the template for your building idea here. Huge fan of Ridley Scott
Good to have you back. I already did miss your 'saga'. :)
Awesome builds that I would never have the heart to do myself so thank you for sharing it.
I'm sure you thought of it, but just in case: friendly reminder that you need filters to only dump rocks.
Looking forward to future sequels!
using the atmospheric plant is an epic idea... liking the work and the progress !!!
Pro-tip:
Adding a remote to a flying ship will allow you to fly it to yourself when you run out of fuel, adding a camera will make it easier when it’s out of los.
Or using the DLC top mount camera on a rotor, with hot bar controls to set the rotor forward, left, reverse, and right on top of your ship gives even more visibility when remotely controlling.
Or you can just clone yourself, cause that’s quicker and all.
You're not only a lemon, Skye, you're the yellowest lemon to ever exist. You're so yellow, you make all the other lemons look bad!
Looking good Skye! Great video!
For the pipeline, you could use armored T junctions connecting the two pipes together you could then place some turrets on that center junction so you base will have some defense. And an idea for the coloring of the asteroid base, make the ribs of buttresses a different color, maybe use the same white as the planet base to help tie them together!
Hi Skye, Love your playthrought. I first began to watch it with timberborns videos and was sad with the break in the project but now I'm so hooked up on star citizen I don't want you to stop it. For the pipe, if you want you could bury them inside the mountain to make them invisible. As such you could preserve the flawless aspect of the base. Love you, love your work!!
“We may have to scale it down” lol I’ve seen so many of your videos and I don’t remember you ever scaling anything down 😂
Looks good so far😉 keep at it mate😁
Daily positive comment
A little late today, but better late than never, just like love. Remember (everybody) to love yourself and enjoy the little things like this FANTASTIC video from Skye. I enjoy it a lot Skye.
Also remember to pet Picture 😊
For the vertical pipeline, perhaps, half way up the cliff drill a roughly 3x3 block hole in the mountain, then go inside and drill out a cavern big enough to store a few large storages. Fill with storage, then block off the opening and bring a pipe out the center that runs out to the pipeline and connects in-between both using some T junctions. Then build the same style of support you're using on the horizontal 1 block above and below the T junctions, then attach them to the cliff face using inverted arches.
Make sure to have some sort of cargo access down there, that way you both can grab materials and don't have to worry about running out of fuel.
@SkyeStorme hitting "B" when placing blocks to local grid can help line up things when building ;)
Skype, tell the Beavers to put the hanging pipes trough de mountain itself until the lake, in an invisible way.
Every time Storme says "so what I'm thinkin' is.." take a drink.
Welcome back, hope your break was restful. IMHO the vertical pipes need support, but maybe use a single beam running perpendicular back to the cliff instead of two sloping. Your mega structures never cease to amaze and inspire.
loving everything! as for the pipe question maybe putting a few of those square conveyors with the block in the middle to "strap" the pipes together could help them look more secure? at the bend at the base you could also put a building secured to the cliff and floor with pipes emerging from the top so there is less distance for them to travel "unsecured" and with "straps" along with the he way to give it more weight?
whatever you decide to do I'm sure I'll love it. love this series! go browncoats... errr i meeean rebels 🌌🤠
With the armored conveyors in the base floor in white and oriented to show the armored side, the ice pipes might look more integrated into the structure
Rotors and Pistons can also be used as pipes. You could use a pair of rotors to make angled sections. Then maybe some small pads on the cliff that pads on the pipes could rest on. It would look like it's connected from a distance but wouldn't really be. To get extra fancy use rotor heads on the pipes (like midway) to connect to rotors mounted on the cliff face. Pretty tricky but gets really cool results that look a bit more organic than what you normally see in Space Engineers.
a nice tip for you skye if uwant it , one thing u can do is if u press b u can change ur build mode to gravity aligned, local grid alignment or freeplacement and local grid alignment will do it so u can build anywhere thats inlign with the nearst grid instead of doing all the scaffolding your doing now,ofc start near the grid some what but still move outwards nice video btw !
Drill it through the cliff from inside the base, all the way to ground level, and have it come out the mountain there at ground level.
It’s the crazy solution, but the best looking one.
Maybe add piston heads to the top of the pipe supports like on your ship, so they look like covers to access ports. And a ladder up to them from the floor. This would add some more realism to them, as maintenance could then occur.
could build some large enclosing braces for the vertical pipes that 'grabs' around them and then secures them to the mountain side
Space engineering tip: you can press shift or ctrl to place Multiple block at the same time in a grid or line shape
I think having the pipes enter a ground level service tunnel and have a riser shaft in the mountain would have been neat. I think the upper landing pad looks cleaner when it doesn't have any external connections from it to the ground. The hanging pipes as they are, maybe would visually look better if they were supported to the rock face.
For anyone who didn't know, if you look at the grid you want to align with and press B the options will change to align to that grid, you can then place the block where you want and not have to build a long chain of blocks, makes life a bit easier
Awesome work! Reminds me of Stargate Atlantis episode with Ancient Cliff base ;) Aaaand you did give me an idea which I may use.
Very cool build. I know you've already welded up the pipeline, but something that might be fun and cool looking for the next resource gathering base might be trying out the AI blocks to set up automated drones to ferry resources back and forth.
I’d say running the vertical portion of the pipe closer to the cliff and “securing” it in the same way it is throughout the horizontal part would make it look better. Of course it would have to cascade a little bit but I don’t reckon that’s necessarily an issue. Alternatively running a pillar through the middle from the ground all the way up and fastening the pipes to that might also look ok and somewhat realistic.
Looking forward to the next video. Inspiring
Great job!!
nice job don't give up amazing project
I'd suggest expanding the braket at the bottom of the vertical pipe to a sort of blochouse or foundation connected to the ground. Make it look like it can support the weight, then maybe some braces either running up the pipes or connecting to the cliff in various spots to sell the reinforcement image.
The blocks that go thru the bottom of the deck from the vertical pipes - one is backwards facing
When you build a section use holograms to make the rest easier. This works if the rest is the same as the existing section you built, such as with the pipes (in case you want to move that section over so there is less bends) or with what I imagine will be the foundation with the sections of the octagon.
Split the pipes at ground level, so one goes to receiving and one goes to distribution per se.
3:44 need some uplighting on the buttresses
You should use beam blocks with that pipeline... and generally more often in decorating.
I have used hinges to make more direct connections across long distances.
Thanks for the new video I had abstinences
I know I'm late for the suggestion game, but maybe you could think of this for some future designs:
1) for the horizontal Pipes you could take some Ideas from overland hot-water pipes running between power plants and cities for communal heating (they have regular "Omega-shaped" sections embedded to help with expansion/contraction due to temperature) and also place some catwalks under the Pipes bridgeing the gap between the lake and cliffside
2) for the vertical pipes you could go with a cable suspension design like golden gate bridge (small pistons might look like steel rope, and hinges can connect to the pipe and cliff)
3) or use some vertical scaffolding running between the middle of the pipes and the cliff back and forth (similar design to your support of the landing platform) after all those pipes are heavy and not very strong against holding their own weight against gravity
I love it Skye.. if it were me I’d build downward pipe closer to the mountain and with a different kind of support maybe un welded?
Middle of the pipe a walkway for maintenance maybe and where the pipe turns up the cliff a small pumping house/maintenance shed type thing
Support the two vertical conveyors either from the top using a U shape, or from the bottom.
as for the pipes up the side of the base ... instead of wrapping around them .. add two blocks evenly spaced going up ... and connect those on a 45 or straight in to the mountain ... then its like an eyebolt holding the pipes in place ... at the bottom just make a platform and rest the turn on that ... make it look beefy so it appears to hold the weight of all above it ... but the person who said make a building at the trench in front ... has a great idea ... even left a way to star wars it up a bit with decoration ;)
This looks very promising! I have one suggestion for the vertical drop. Instead of copying the design from the horizontal pipeline, you could make several ovals/rings at certain intervals around the two pipes, then anchor these rings to the cliff face with more industrial-looking scaffolding
Good ole' base plumbing
Static drills, you get more resources over time without the voxel changes that pile up and make the server slow down over time (edit: spelling)
3:21 oxygen tanks are 2 blocks tall, while you are talking about o2 tanks, there are 6 conveyors on screen just sitting there doing nothing.
Okey i must write it. When you building , hold controll + mouse wheel to zoom in and out the block u have in hands.
Also recomend one mod ( edges be gone) - it removes those ugly edges so they are smooth and it all looks much better.
I'm a little late on this one 😅 sorry for that! It looks insane indeed haha nice! I think it could look more realistic if you put the strong reinforcement right under the vertical pipes, maybe beef it up a little so it can technically hold the weight off the pipes going up. Then connect the vertical pipes sideways to the mountain with the half blocks so it looks like it's just there so they pipes don't bend. Gonna watch the next episode now! Very curious to your design!
Maybe build a pump designed building to pump the ice up to the base, ( im aware its not needed in game but irl you would need a large pump) then you have solid support and can build a kind of tower a bit up the cliff, perhaps embeded into the cliff?
I have an idea about the vertical pipes.
the support at the base needs to move over one or two square to be in the center. 😂
As for supporting the pipe, why not have something to grab a hold of the pipe from the top and bottom. I like the free standing nature of it but instead of an anchor like you normally do, you can try an arm or something to hold it from the deck and from the bottom of the cliff at the corner (the horizontal bit).
my idea was to have a pillar sticking out in between the pipe and secure it together with a brace around everything. kind of like what you have in hydrogen refueling station in between the tanks. it will only go up a 10-20 tiles. same with the top. the pillar will connect to something at the floor and deck (I couldn't figure out what the base attaching to the cliff and deck should look like. I want something big and beefy like it's supporting a lot of weight.) if you want you can add another brace in the middle without the middle tile connecting to the top and bottom. it'll only attach the pipes together for more structural integrity.
Eyyyyy. Another Skye video. Oh no... Inspiration from an Aliens movie, this won't end well. ;)
looks awesome like the supports my pipes that i do is usually chrome silver with black supports thats me the shape of the factory is cool are you putting a cat walk in middle and to go up i use passage with stairs great work
Try using the hinges to angle your pipe lines instead of the fancy elbows. u can go closer to the cliff with this method (hinge with angle at the beginning of pipe line then one at the end to get the angle back :), than anchor the pipe line with more hinges to the mountain or can anchor straight. lol esthetics hehe. Gr8 channel Btw really appreciate your time and effort!
19:57 I think the first one one the splitter should have the flange on the end and the rest be straight pipes.
Woohoo! More Skye Wars!
Two *different* pipes might even look better than two identical ones
u can use roter/pistons/hinges with connectors 2 make 2 grids become 1 its a pain but can work in some ways
Calling it here and now : Skye is going to start harvesting the ice from his newly finished installation only to find out that the ice is only 2 or 3 blocks deep or something like that
Hello there, you can align a new Grid with a current Grid by using the Local-Grid Alignment Mode (with block in hand hit B) there is a range, but you will see a very large cube when holding the block in the ground for placement
Happy New Year to you and your. We in KY USA have patiently waited your return and your next creations. Just an idea, rather than balancing the pipeline down the center, build it into the vehicle elevator on the corner and straightening out the pipe?
so tip u can use a welder on pistons like u would drills do one in middle of the pipes and run few pistons out u can do alot with ittle work
Love it
Hey can i use some of your hangar door designs in my own ships? Im trying to build a massive super carrier and your 4 door hangar looks super cool
Put junctions in the middle of your pipeline for cargo access
The middle point of the base is 2 blocks. So, there should be even number of pipes. Like 2 or 4 maybe?:)
Update: oh, you've figured it out.
Oxigen tanks and small hydrogen tank can be used as conveyors, each can substitute 2 pipes, giving connection and gas storage at the same time.
Neat.
what you could have done is used PAMS auto mining scrip to transport the ice from one base to the other. the scrip has a feature for instead of mining to carrier. this would have saved you a crap ton of resources and time. i would say for one scrip it takes about 1 hour to build the mining ship and half hour to set up, same for the carrier.
Have you tried out blueprints? They could help with some of the long runs of things or in building structures like the octagon
Yay!!! The green ship is no longer a rocket!!!
About block alignment:
Perhaps you'll like the local grid option.
Please, Skye. Move the wind turbines. These things near a docking port is as nearly the same good idea as building a concrete wall at the end of a landing strip. :(
