It’s great to see a weather presentation that discusses things in a way all of us can understand but that treats us as intelligent adults. It’s really educational!
@@mowvu Oh, you must be so vastly kore intelligent and sophisticated than the rest of us. Why would you need this, when you can read the raw data yourself?
Just recently discovered this. So grateful to the Met Office staff that they are providing detailed forecasts, met education and engaging with us all in such a clear and informative way. Keep going; it's great.
Thank you Alex, for another enjoyable Deep Dive.Absolutely fascinating.Really appreciated the explanation on the difficulty in forecasting snow. I was aware about temperatures but forgot about the other elements. I have been getting fed up seeing other media outlets wanting to know exact time/date snow is going to fall, but through the Deep Dive,it is reassuring that it is not always possible to pinpoint with that precise accuracy.Thank you once again.
27:20 "I know right, it's beautiful isn't it" Nothing quite like standing back and admiring your cloud drawing skills Alex! Thanks for another detailed outlook
Alex is my favourite met presenter, bar none! He can make any topic sound fascinating, even low pressure systems! Not so sure about his drawing skills though! Only joking he's great! Thanks Alex 🙂
I love the pacing and use of the interactive map. Rather than the weather information being simply transmitted/told, here I feel like I’m part of the conversation and process of reading learning how the weather works . Great presenting.
Loving this channel, it's so great to see things explained easier and in and interesting way. Keep up with the good work and I'll look out for the next videos. 👍☺️
It's not so much the cold I mind, it is the cold and the rain. I like dry weather, cold or hot. Humidity, gloom, murky, freezing rain are the real annoyances. Snow of course is beautifil and always hoping for it in London
I love these deep dives. They're still as exciting as when you guys started doing it some months ago. I know the weather has limited time so you basically just get the minimum of what you need to know and what to possibly expect. These deep dives are in my opinion interesting and I'm often learning something new every few videos. Cheers.
This deep dive was brilliant. Congratulations Alex on a good presentation. That provided a wonderfully clear explanation of snowfall and yet had the feeling you were presenting it off the cuff without referencing to notes. So you really know your subject to be able to pull this off. Also enjoyed the wider context of what is happening in Europe. Keep up the good work it's getting even better!
I am reminded of a day in early November, more than 50 years ago, when I walked to work in heavy rain. From the office window, we had a view across a road and a field beyond. We noticed at about 9 o'clock, that it had turned to sleet, and to heavy snow by 10. At midday they took the buses off the road, and by 4 in the afternoon, the town was cut off. We had drivers delivering in neighbouring towns who were unable to get home, and were given shelter in church halls. I had gone to work in normal wet weather clothes, and had to walk home in shoes totally unsuited to deep snow. It was lucky that the snow was still soft because although I got home with cold wet feet, it wasn't slippery. By the following morning it had frozen hard, and I woke to the familiar clink of snow chains on passing milk floats. I didn't know much about meteorology, and living on the coast, I relied mainly on the shipping forecast, and it was only later that I was able to connect the physics lesson about latent heat with my experience of the weather.
A truly excellent Deep Dive! 🎉Very many thanks indeed Alex, so interesting and really informative! 😅 Marvellous to know that out of each cloud comes snow ❄️ …until it passes through the warmer air and then turns to rain, sleet, or freezing rain! I well remember the hazards of that during TBFTE, earlier years too, darned dangerous on the roads and windscreens! BTW, I watched a video here on TH-cam last night with the atrocious weather in Ukraine, so frightening for them with the Tsunami-like waves and terrible flooding!!😮 A brilliant DD Alex, very much appreciated 😊
I love the term “ Met-Head”. Definitely describes me , I’m a Handyman in North Wales and Met office updates rule my schedule of indoor / outdoor jobs! ⛈☔️🤣 Keep up the great work team! 👍 PS , Chances of Christmas Snow?? 🎅
Another awesome presentation - if all my schoolteachers had been so enthusiastic and in love with their subjects we'd have been thoroughly captivated - even the back-bench boys. Here on the canal we're trying to figure out whether we'll be iced in - hmmm, let's see.
Great that Alex, nice that we've got a few dry frosty days to help the land dry a little. You should be a primary teacher Alex with those drawing skills 😅👍
Excellent presentation as always from the met Office I am constantly singing your praises on your extremely accurate presentation of the weather forecast
Great presentation. I have just a few observations concerning the use of colours on the maps to represent clouds and precipitation. I have the impression that on some maps, clouds over the sea are grey and over land are white. Does this mean the cloud structure or characteristics are different? Snow represented as white patches causes some confusion in trying to read the information on the map. I struggle to see the difference between white clouds and white representing snow precipitation. It is even more confusing when white snow showers are shown on satellite maps where towns and densely populated areas (intense light) are also represented by bright white patches. In this video, I struggled to distinguish the show showers over Europe from the white patches indicating populated areas. It is possible to increase the difference between white representing snow and other white features on maps? Snow is a problem to forecast but it seems is also a problem to represent on maps.
That was a very interesting deep dive about the snow and how freezing rain occurs. Tusedays are reserved specifically form my Met Office lectures now. Thanks Alex and your splendid team.
Hi Alex. Thanks for this. A suggestion. I find it a little bit confusing (aka 'makes me think') when the snow maps show both white for cloud cover and white for snow. At least, I think that's what is being shown. I may be wrong! If not, any chance of using zebra stripes or different shading?
Great Info. As an astronomer i (we) are always looking atthe weather and when we will see breaks in the cloud and atmospheric conditions so this was really interesting
Thanks so much for the snow explainer Alex - expertly done, as usual. Just what I’m looking for in the deep dives - always a pleasure to see the video timer closer to half an hour!
I listen to a podcast out of New York where the hosts begin by saying what their weather is doing, I noticed whenever they had snow, we had it roughly two weeks later... 2021-22 this was incredibly reliable, but yeah, couldn't give you the exact day, but always gave me time to prepare what I needed to! But then the Pacific ocean went and changed its pronouns again (was it el niño this time?) so weather patterns the last few months have been more like 2019-2020, with everything being constantly wet as there are barely any 48 hour periods where there isn't some rain for several months now... so all patterns found in 2021-22 I'm not holding out too much hope for
Love these Weekly deep dive information . This one was excellent thou . Very informative and very interesting . Keep up the great work ! Thanks Alex , brilliant presentation
I haven't watched the video Alex, I love your shorter vids but this one's too long for me. However, I'm commenting because I wanted to say how much I love and respect your thumbnail. Your dedication to feeding the mystical TH-cam algorithm and catching people's eye isn't going unnoticed =)
Yet another excellent Deep Dive - thank you for these. An odd question - some of the less reputable / amateur weather channels that I used to follow refer to the 18Z model run as the 'pub run'. Why? Is it simply because 1800 is the time people might go to the pub after work? Someone else said it might be because the 18Z run 'gets inebriated' and outputs odd data sometimes - though I can't see the logic in that statement as computer wise all runs are surely the same?
On the whole this is translating to bright, sunny weather in SW Ireland. My pv panels produced 1.7 kw hr for the battery bank, and another 1.5 kwhr went into a water tank, producing 40 litres at about 40’C. Excellent results for December.
Thank you. As a bit of a weather geek I find your deep dives fascinating. Is this cold snap early this year? With some recent clear skies up here on the Pennines, the full moon has been spectacular if cold.
With some of the contour maps , it maybe worth highlighting the border of the country in a contrast bright color. You cannot see the black outline of the UK against the dark blues at 08:30 ish.
Being in the North West we get lot's of rain and awful damp days. Cold crisp day's would be welcome. Saying that I love the deep dive. Keep up the good work. Thank-you
Very interesting graphics. Love the freezing-level maps. We live in a frost hollow (bottom of a deep Welsh valley), so we normally get ground frost when the forecast air temperature is 3°C or lower, presumably related to cold air drainage from the surrounding hilltops, which rise to ~300m. So we never park our cars facing upslope!
So look forward to these detailed weather predictions. You and all the team do a brilliant job of explaining the various scenarios that could possibly befall us. Thanks for making it so much easier to understand and so much more interesting.
I got hit by ice rain about three weeks after moving to SW Scotland in January. I was grappling with a wheelie bin when i heard a ‘splat!’ noise behind me. I was so surprised i walked back to look at it. Then it splattered around me again and then ON my head and it was hard! Like great shard of soft ice hitting the paving stones. Fascinating!
Great presentation Alex, much appreciated by this Geography teacher and amateur meteorologist. I would love that graphic facility in front of a bored group of 15 year olds!
🙏🌟 Hi, we don't get snow in Nottingham that often 🤔 I love snow ! The year my daughter was born 1996 it was January and everything was covered in snow and was so beautiful ! Many Thanks to you, Great forecast .🌟✨💫🙏
Thank you for another very interesting deep dive, fascinating, as always. Could you talk about the weather models, what they are, how they work, why they differ etc?
The MET should make the touch screen you use to show us the weather an app...it would be the best available, I would pay $10 per year for that functionality.. the best function is the jet stream!! ....
Love this deep dive! Thank you I love hill camping in snow so I use it to know whether to start prepping a few days away! Not sure I’ll be able to get away from work this time though 😕 maybe next time!
It’s great to see a weather presentation that discusses things in a way all of us can understand but that treats us as intelligent adults. It’s really educational!
Agreed - it's glorious that whilst we may not have the models and technology, we're also not treated like simpletons.
@@mowvu Oh, you must be so vastly kore intelligent and sophisticated than the rest of us. Why would you need this, when you can read the raw data yourself?
Met office does the best weather reports
Just recently discovered this. So grateful to the Met Office staff that they are providing detailed forecasts, met education and engaging with us all in such a clear and informative way. Keep going; it's great.
My favourite time of the week between deep dive and 10 day forcast ,love this so much love from Ireland 🇮🇪
@@causewaykayak 😀
Me too love deep dive 😊😊😊
Didn't think Irish watch UK stuff
@anthonytaylor6972 well I do , we watch an awful lot itv , bbc , e4 etc
Love from the UK to Ireland.

Can't get enough of deep dives. I have started watching old ones just because it is so enjoyable.
27:20 "I know right, it's beautiful isn't it" Nothing quite like standing back and admiring your cloud drawing skills Alex! Thanks for another detailed outlook
I wish the deep dive was every day because it’s super interesting brilliant job Alex D 😊

Please carry on with the weather overview for the rest of Europe. I really enjoy seeing what is happening further afield.
Absolutely loved this one. Thank you Alex and all involved.❤

Yes, the joy of being a Mammal😂
@adi91216
I'm with you, I ave 3 digs and if it's raining first thing (before 06:00) puts me in a bad mood for an hour 😂😂
What we wish and what we get it's totally different unfortunately
I love the Deep Dive.. It makes the regular forecast make more sense. It's a must every Tuesday. Great idea.!

Really like the 0 degrees/ height map...... more of those please :) So much to learn.
Fantastic video, love the thumbnail image too! :)
Thank you to the whole team's work at the Met Office all-year round!
Wonderful explanation. This should be rebranded Met Office Weather Institute
This beats the BBC forecast by a country mile
Drawing with Alex is a highlight of my week, keep them coming
Alex and Aiden are my favourites! Love the deep dive, gives so much information in an accessible format

I always look forward to the deep dive but this weeks was exceptional! The explanation of what’s required for snow was excellent
Still not cold enough to put the shorts away yet 🙂 thank you Alex

Super interesting as always. Thank you Alex for explaining the weather so clearly.
Thanks, Alex! I really enjoyed this week’s deep dive!
I m working in a company in Munich and I m originally from Iran, Thank you for your weather report "I like rainy weather"
So glad I found this channel, its always the best comprehensive forecast around, thank you Alex 😊
Thank you Met Office
These deep dives are excellent, so well presented and I was fascinated throughout!
Love the content and high standard of presentation skills, could watch these all day.
The met office will always be the best
Fascinating deep dive, I'd not considered the interface between the hot and the cold air before. Subscribed, thank you.

Brilliant Alex, love the deep dives and am a total met head and have been since I was a kid.
My elderly dad would love this he's a weather fanatic..hope this doesn't stop me coming to Blackpool a week Sunday ❤️
Great deep dive Alex. Loved the explanation of how hard it is to predict when and where snow will fall.
great to learn about weather and the deep dive methods of forecasting.. keep it going
Thank you for what you do. You’re so good at explaining everything.
Have just discovered deep dives and they are brilliant!!! 🙌🙌
Fantastic use of smart board !!! Never been so in to weather in my life !!!! Well done 👍👍👍
So look forward to these detailed weather predictions. You and all the team do a brilliant job of explaining the various scenarios that could possibly befall us. Thanks for making it so much easier to understand and so much more interesting.
Great explanation of how difficult it is to forecast the exact location for snow fall

I'm doing an earth science degree and currently doing a module on snow so this was great to watch, very informative.
Great presentation Alex, much appreciated by this Geography teacher and amateur meteorologist. I would love that graphic facility in front of a bored group of 15 year olds!
I Hope the ice won't cause to many impacts alex
Thank you so much deep dive and team 😊
Thanks, Another revelation from the worlds number one meteorologist 👍
This is the only guy I have come across in my many years of watching TH-cam who sounds as good at 1.5x speed as he does at normal.
Thanks Alex, brilliant forecast.
Love these deep dives 🌨️
So interesting! I love these deep dives & fascinating to understand a bit more about how difficult snow can be! 😊
Do the rules on snow in what you have explained apply to the lake effect snow in the US and Canada?
Love these deep dives! 👍
What a great weather program, I see the weather in a different light now.
🙏🌟 Hi, we don't get snow in Nottingham that often 🤔 I love snow ! The year my daughter was born 1996 it was January and everything was covered in snow and was so beautiful ! Many Thanks to you, Great forecast .🌟✨💫🙏
Really great to have the weather in a long format rather than a quick 2 mins at the end of the news after a comedy news feature
Thank you for another very interesting deep dive, fascinating, as always. Could you talk about the weather models, what they are, how they work, why they differ etc?

I love hill camping in snow so I use it to know whether to start prepping a few days away! Not sure I’ll be able to get away from work this time though 😕 maybe next time!
This is really fascinating and most educational. Thank you for the deep dive!
very educative. many thanks, Alex.
Love the deep dives and learnt so much today about snow formation - it all made absolute sense! Fascinating episode and explained brilliantly!
Love the snow, it’s so purifying 🌨
I love watching the snow fall ❤🧣🧤🌨❄☃️👍
