My grandfather grew up in Bunkie and in Mansura in the early 1890s.

I hate that they didn't cross the track and show the other side of Bunkie...

I grew up in bunkie until I was 8yrs old. I know the whole town like the back of my hand. Unfortunately the tracks separate the community know as the “black side and the white side”. And you can see the difference too! It's a town that you leave but never go back too. A lot of my family still lives there but there is NOTHING there. Though it has seen more foot traffic from various parts of the country. I plan to take my kids there to show them where it all started and to never take what theybuave for granted. Getting it out the mud is an understatement when this yownwas your starting point. I do still love this town with all my heart though.

This all sounds romantic but these were bad times. Lots of poverty and suffering especially if you were poor

It’s unfortunate no one in the African American community of Bunkie was not mentioned. PBS do better !!

You meant to say "No one in the African American community of Bunkie was mentioned." A double negative results in misunderstanding. A double negative results in the misleading, confusing and mistaken idea that everyone except anyone in the referenced community was mentioned.

Everyone there is white! I would love to hear this story told by the city’s majority black population

Definitely not. Most of Louisiana is not redneck racist, just hardcore drinkers and partiers. Harmless really.
