Refreshing change from big workshops with lots of tools. Amazing what you can do in a balcony with skill and determination. Have you thought of putting foam or something under your bench to deaden the chiseling blows and keep your neighbors happy? New sub from Spain.
Honestly my neighbors never seemed to care when I did work like this. I live in a house now so it's a little different. I just always made sure to do it at normal times of day and not super late at night or crazy early in the morning
You are truly the minimalist woodworker! Reminds me of some Vietnamese woodworker videos I’ve seen, where they use their feet as a lathe! Amazing what people can do with just so few tools.Hats off to you and your very enjoyable channel. Are those high end planes you use, or the garden variety one gets at Woodcraft?
They're not high end. Most of the ones I use I got off of eBay, but the Lie Nielsen would be considered high end. The one kanna I use regularly that's about a 70mm is a middle of the road one. In general I just use garden variety stuff or unique looking pieces I run across.
Kanna like mine don't really do so well on super hard/figured woods like this. I was advised by a few of my Japanese carpenter friends to just sand it. There are Kanna that are made with a higher blade angle to allow for better results on hard/figured wood but I don't have one of those yet.

Hi! I have the same space issues! Can I ask where do you find your kanna and chisels? I live on the east coast of the USA and not sure where to get Japanese tools.
To be honest Kanna don't do so well on super figured wood like this. I asked a few of my Japanese carpenter friends and they actually advised me to sand it down if you can't get it uber clean. There are kanna with higher blade angles that are made for harder/figured woods but I don't have one of those yet.

I got a lot of tools of eBay, and Woodcraft, it’s a big chain that bought up the Japan Woodworker.
Ebay is an amazing resource. You just have to get good at rust removal and setup work
